#1 Post by zyngalu »

Hi

I ran nmap on my mxLinux system and saw this message

Code: Select all

445/tcp open microsoft-ds
What is microsoft doing here.. Im trying to get away from them..

I would like to shut this port down.. Perhaps its my Router...?

Any pointer please

Thank You..

I think it's the port Samba uses. Nothing related to Microsoft unless you need to do file and print sharing with Microsoft systems.

Correct. It's Microsoft Directory Service, used by samba for file and printer sharing between MX and Windows computers that are on the same network.

I did a shields up port scan which said only port 80 is open (I did this purposely)

So port 455 is not open to the internet. But would be internal I guess....

Since you are trying to stay away from windows related stuff (yes!) I would guess you don't have windows computer on your network. Means, you can disable Samba service from running.
