DO NOT UPGRADE LIVE SYSTEMS WITH PERSISTENCE OR REMASTER!

There is something about the new kernel upgrade that breaks the live system. I suspect the old kernel gets purged which removes all of its modules so your system gets crippled. Even if that is not the cause, something is causing a serious problem.

I will change this to a sticky, that way it stays on top.

If you did a remaster after the update then you should be able to get back to a working system with the "rollback" boot parameter. If you have root persistence enabled then you should be able to get back to a working system by disabling root persistence.
I realize this is not an ideal solution. We first have to identify the problem then we can work on figuring out a solution so you don't lose your changes.
If you do a "rollback" then your changes will be stored in a file called "linuxfs.bad" in the /live/boot-dev/antiX/ directory. Don't delete this file. Perhaps rename it.
If you had root persistence enabled then your changes will be stored in the file "rootfs" in the /live/boot-dev/antiX/ directory. Don't delete this file. I suggest you rename it if you want to re-enable root persistence and still be able to recover your changes later on.
I hope we can figure out how to save your changes. We got totally hosed by upstream on this.

Just I noticed (send a message) two people to whom I have installed MX Linux. They are not ''specialists'' and barely visit this forum.
For sure there are many peoples that have installed MX Linux or have it from some one else and barely visit this forum. On these cases , Linux OS ,Debian or Mx Linux has taken in consideration this scenario ? Can updates/upgrades disabled form web site (repo website) to deny peoples that have not idea that something was wrong? If not.... please investigate and find a way for the next time . Would be very worthy. At least a message box or window screen that warn users.

I must be the lucky one :lipsrsealed: I have 3 laptops with MX installed, fully updated and no problems anywhere, 3 persistence live usb's fully updated and all is well. I hope the fix for those having problems doesn't do the opposite and break my systems.

We got totally hosed by upstream on this.
Perhaps consider using the Debian stable kernel by default and only install a newer version if the hardware requires it?

So this is with a Live or Persistent install only?
I have the upgrade from a few days ago with a full install and notice no issues. However, I tried both the 5. antix and Liquorix kernels and could not maintain wireless stability with either. Not sure if related but I put it out there just in case it helps. Also this is a ~week old fresh install MX18.3.

It's with the 4.19 kernel from upstream Debian.
If you have Nvidia graphics, also be cautious.

Ah so, you may be right. All I know is "upstream", I just assumed Debian.

Hi there,
Had the same problems here. Wifi was gone after kernel update. I changed to an older kernel, and it's working again.
Is there something more that I can or must do? Below is the quick system info. I now use the 4.19.01:

I likely don't see the issue immediately due to intel graphics and wireless. I did question that it did overwrite the kernel as opposed to installing alongside but didn't see an issue post update so didn't worry'

I'm using Kernel provided with Rufus , when it proceed to make live-USB-Installer , rufus give a warning and said this kernel might not be working on the specified distribution ... (not verbatim but i think it's close enough) and give option to download the latest kernel
And the friend that recommend me MX Linux did have the same problem , until he used my live-usb to upgrade ...
So i hope this helps ...

The issue with the newer 4.19 kernel was fixed five days ago. See MX News and Announcements.
