Guidance on Using Repos Safely?

Having accidentally created a FrakenDebian in the past, requiring a nuke-and-pave style reinstall, I am trying to learn from my past mistakes.

Is there somewhere I can read up on safe usage of the various repos that MX Package Installer provides?

The nice thing about the MX-package-installer is that you don't have to enable the whole test-repo to install a package from there.
So you should be save not to damage your whole system.

Hmmm... ok. I'm not trying to do anything too crazy. I just want the latest version of Python 3 - it's in the test repo right now.

I may just be a little gun shy after last time...

You might be able to install a local version of a newer Python3 using pyenv and pyenv-installer.

In any case, you can make an easily restorable backup of your system with Timeshift.
