Anyone on Windows 7 either needs to move to Windows 10, or much better yet--Linux:

Or simply apply the patch that's available.

there is the usual suspect sites, that are saying "doom & gloom" as the World of win-7 ends. ..

there is also another set of suspects saying "the last opportunity for the Linux Desktop" .. .

there will always be some group of folks, that will actually be worried, about these things .. .

I already upgraded to Win10. Not because they scared me into doing so, but simply because I would like to keep getting security updates at least


Also.. Win10 is a breeze to install from scratch in my experience, in comparison to Win7 which just takes forever and 15 cups of coffee.

I've been hearing these stories since the demise of Windows 2000.

The aggressive nature of Microsoft's attempts to coerce people to upgrade to Windows 10 certainly didn't help to quash these concerns.

I had the exact opposite experience when I tried the Windows 10 Technical Preview back in 2014-15, and the installer was an insult to my intelligence. I miss the simplicity of their older Windows installers.

If the NSA is asking for this..... Do the opposite and come to Linux.

Really? Well.. that WAS 4-5 years ago.. back in the day I didn't want to touch Win10 with a 10 foot pole *giggle*

I found the installation with the USB a week ago a breeze, and I had to do it twice I did shove Cortana out the door. No need for that thing

I have a dual boot MX/Win7 notebook, & my main machine (still in storage at the mo' but not for much longer 'cause a bought a little place to live :) ) runs OpenBSD & has a Win7 drive that I put the power cable to (& pull all others) when I want to play a Steam game (same reason that I have Win7 on the MX notebook).

Both Win7 installs have had all of their known phone home to MS parts disabled/removed, as well as nearly every update has been removed & all future updates have been blocked (none of this can be changed short of a full reinstall of the Win7 OS, the virgin "modified" setups for both I keep in Clonezilla storage).

I, like many other Windows users consider the MS updates to be at least potentially, the most intrusive when it comes to threatening the privacy/security of my Windows system.

I will continue to operate in the same fashion once Win7 is unsupported, due to the fact that my Win7's systems have been unsuported due to my actions as mentioned above, for years already. So really, it makes no difference to me until until I can't play a game that I want to due to my not owning the OS that it requires. In that case, I'll play a different game instead. :)

I also don't run any anti virus/malware software, as even the free ones have stated that they track what their users do (for no ones benefit but their own).

My son in law has been running the software that is required to run his hotel on Win XP, since Win XP was current, without ever a problem due to the OS version that he uses.

It all comes down to what web sites you go to; whether you download torrented software for Windows; whether you use software that may be untrustworthy, including the things that people run on their browsers, as well as which browser you use & how that browser is set up.

As an aside, as far as I'm concerned, everyone should always be using a high quality paid for VPN whenever they are online, as it is an increasingly dangerous online world out there.

Agreed. I think Microsoft has been taking lessons from Linux when it comes to making Windows 10 easier to install. I've probably installed it close to a dozen times without issue. Time-wise it takes about twice as long, but not complicated at all unless you don't have updated drivers, then you probably can't use it anyway.

That's a good point, and why the headline caught my attention. The NSA is saying--get your crap together--this is a big problem.
I keep Windows on a couple of computers, but I'd never want to depend upon it and it's not my daily driver.
