Are you using this link?
https://archive.org/download/MX18.1X64/ ... ve.torrent...this link works...
If you have found another link that doesn't work, please post it so we can track it down.
Thanks.

Weird...that link works...
EDIT: at least it works from here in the US...maybe it's getting filtered when it is used from another location?

Works OK in California, but the files appear locked when I use the Tor browser to surface in many other countries.
https://archive.org/download/MX18.1X64/
Are we using any encryption that could have triggered some kind of export restriction?
Well, I can get them because I uploaded them. When I try another browser where I'm not signed in to archive.org, they're locked for me, too.
I wonder if one of our Distrowatch fanboi reviewers made a malicious complaint to archive.org. Let me check some other distros' ISOs.

Working OK now. I am located in the US. Twenty minutes ago it was giving the Not Found message.
However the link on the MX Website does not work.

Hmm, actually, I didn't do the 64-bit upload, I think Adrian did it. My 32-bit version is still up:
https://archive.org/download/MX18.1386
I'm starting to lean toward the malicious complaint theory, unless Adrian accidentally flipped a switch to make those unavailable to non-members or something, since I can still download them, though I'm not the uploader.

Now when I try to go to the file list in another browser, it says the content is only available to logged-in archive.org members, which is not what was happening half an hour ago! Maybe it's just a glitch there.

I'm getting this error:
Could you please provide
magnet links so you never need to depend on trackers or sites hosting .torrent files anymore? Now i'm forced to search around if i can find the file
MX18.1X64_archive.torrent somewhere else...

I see it's now in Collections: highbandwidth and logged-in. I wonder if it was downloaded so many times that they automatically moved it to those collections? I've attached a zip of the torrent file, and will like to see if it still works.
MX18.1X64_archive.torrent.zip
The Google says we are too popular now and consuming much bandwidth there. I suppose the torrents will work as long as there are other seeders. The other option is for a downloader to create an account on archive.org, which takes a minute or so. Or we could upload it again to another collection.
Highbandwidth: Items in this collection consume an unusually large amount of archive.org's outbound bandwidth and may be subject to various limiting schemes.
My 32-bit collection there has only 5300 views, so should be OK for a while at least.

Not a good situation when the MX Website link fails. A user would not necessarily know he would need an account.

Since the torrents are still working as long as they can get the torrent file, how about just providing it directly instead of from archive.org? (and do the same thing for the 32-bit before they change that, too)

That would be a good approach. What changes need to be made on the website?

Can the site directly host and provide the torrent file, or does it have to be somewhere else? In the worst case, they could be in zip attachments here, I guess.

The torrent files are only ~30kB, so no need to zip them. I think we could host the torrent file on the site once it is issued by archive.org

I will consult with Karen re the Website. i do not see why they could not. Better to have them there than here.
EDIT: By the way the 32 bit torrent link already directly downloads the torrent.

Not sure what goes on, the torrent works fine here downloaded 18% in a matter of seconds, the files if I go in incognito indeed show as not downloadable as in the screenshot. Didn't do anything to that that to require log in access on archive.org but I'm not that familiar with the site and is kind of not userfriendly...

Right now archive.org is creating the .torrent files and they are not magnet links. They use something called, Getright-style webseeding. For a short-term fix, we might be able to host the current two .torrent files issued by archive.org on our website to bypass the restrictions that archive.org is appears to applying to .torrent file downloads.
Longer term we can look into creating our own magnet links, but *it appears* they would need to be created on a 24/7 server with a pretty hefty Internet link. We need to understand this better....

Paul, AFAIK, the forum doesn't allow for .torrent files to be directly attached, which is why I zipped mine.
Adrian, apparently the high volume of downloads for the 64-bit version automatically moved it to a "high bandwidth" collection only accessible to those who were logged in. The torrents have plenty of seeders outside of archive.org now, so they it doesn't matter if they block their contributions to the torrent.
Rich, those are the correct links for the torrent files.

How many downloads to date of the 32 bit and 64 bit torrents on archive.org?

They really don't keep track, but the pages have over 18000 and 5000 "views" for the 64 and 32-bit. The MX 18 pages I put up when it was released only have a few hundred, so I'd say the difference between the two is going to be when we added the torrent links.
The 64-bit torrent file was already attached to one of my posts earlier in this thread, by the way...
