WPS Office [INFEASIBLE]

I have had compatibility problems with LibreOffice and documents created with MS Office and I tried installing the WPS OFFICE 2016 which is free for GNU / Linux and has no compatibility problems with the Microsoft suite.
The Word and Power Point documents are shown as they were created with MS Office, so I recommend it.
For those who want to have it in Spanish, you have to install 2 .deb packages that I can gladly provide, since they require the user to register with Deepin.

I use WPS Office and Softmaker Office. I like both of them.

I liked WPS, but I need macro support so I decided to stick with LO.
WPS also has a TOC that seems to limit the free Linux edition to domestic (ie, China) hardware and software:
(3)If this Software is a WPS Office version for Linux OS, the following apply:
1) You are only entitled to install and use this Software on computers meeting the following operating environment requirements as agreed herein:
OS: Linux OS produced by China brand enterprises, such as Ubuntu or Ubentu Kylin, Deepin, NeoKylin, NFS China, and New Start
CPU: X86 or CPU produced by China enterprises such as Loongson, Phytium, SW, Zhaoxin, and MPRC
Memory: At least 500MB; 1G or more is recommended
Hard disk: At least 300MB available space; 500MB available space is recommended
Browser: Firefox 4.0 or above
...

I never saw any attempt by them in their forums to enforce this restriction, and I don't understand the rationale behind it, but there it is.

That CPU restriction makes a lot of their users into violators, I'll bet.
Since this is a package request thread, I'd like to see a [INFEASIBLE] added to the first post's title...

As far as I've read their site, you pay for WPS either in cash or by accepting ads...?

From what I am reading, many people write comments from a subjective view, not because they have used it.
I can write from my own experience.
I have used WPS Office in several distributions, not only with MX and the behavior is very good, I do not have any restrictions, and it is almost 100% compatible with MS Office, unlike LibreOffice, which does not save compatibility, it is very different.
When I print from WPS or make a presentation, it's the same as doing it with MS Office.
On the other hand, with LibreOffice I have to make adjustments in Write because it gets messed up and with the PowerPoint presentations in LibreOffice it comes out unarmed, whereas with WPS it is identical to MS Office.
When they try it for at least a week thoroughly, comment.
LibreOffice is a great open source office suite, but occasionally you will find one with a presentation originally made in Power Point, comes with slides and effects of transitions that are not displayed correctly in LibreOffice. And this is the point at which WPS, at least to me, solves the mess.

I recommend Freeoffice, no ads, though they do ask that you register with an email.

I'm not much of a fan of closed source software. This is a trust issue. The code can contain anything and nobody can audit it.

Not only is it closed source, it's made by a Chinese software and ISP company. I wouldn't trust it to not have any spyware in it.

I have used WPS before Kingsoft Office for years and still now. Is more compatible with Microsoft Office than Libre Office. Really fast.
Being dubious , believe or not to close source ..... You can't trust to nothing in our days. Air is contaminated, air is polluted, people are jealous or want to xxxxxxx you for free. Years ago I have read a golden rule. When you connect in the Internet you lose your privacy.

I am not a super scientist or nuclear physicist or a corrupt politician or a stalker or pornographer, so for me the privacy thing does not care, I use the internet to visit pages, download information for my studies and suddenly have fun little with the social networks, I do not have money in the bank nor I do transactions by the network so that of the espionage is more a paranoia for many that are scared of their shadow.
Since you connect a computer, laptop, tablet or cell phone to the network, they are collecting information, even TVs already include cameras that spy your house and also track the programs you watch or movies or series of payment or not.
As for WPS, it is software that works well for me, better than LibreOffice and with better compatibility with MS Office files, I would say that almost 100%

Just as a warning to anyone like me who likes WPSOffice in part because of its traditional toolbar interface, I just downloaded and installed version 11 and it appears that the toolbar interface option is gone, and the size of the download is almost doubled to boot.
So I guess I will stay with the latest update to the "2016" version.

hi! I just tried WPS 11- and yes, I noticed the interface change, I don't mind it much... The only real difference I notice is that, in my old single core, 3 gig of RAM desktop, ver 11 starts way faster than the older version! I don't mind having a larger file in exchange for almost instant start time...
Also I read the "alternative" WPS Linux EULA (sorry, I saved it, didn't save the URL), and and made WPS, once again "feasible" for me... But I'm still a LO user, I keep WPS just in case I run into some incompatible MS doc file...
I do realize WPS is a way better option for users that come from MS Office- it's basically almost the same interface, and way better compatibility with MS document files than LO. the downside is that it's not Open Source. Even so, having WPS 11 easily available for MX user's would be a plus, mainly for Windows refugees... even if just mentioning it, along with other office suits in the manual, quick start... Just a idea.

I am using WPS since the beginning of the year and it is much more compatible with MS-Office documents (almost 100%) than LibreOffice, it is installed by default in Deepin but it can be installed in MX without problem and works very well, I have it in Spanish with its corresponding dictionary.

Yes. The version 11 of WPS is out.Fast. WPS has changed skin and no more possibility to revert to classic skin anymore ( or it is a hidden trick for this). Personally I hate ribbon tool bar that is pain in the ass. Yesterday I was running Sparky Linux and I noticed a new update of WPS. I allowed it and after I found that pavro of Sparky Linxu has arrive dto include WPS in Sparky repos. It is possible this in MX Linux ? Does not matter if will be in MX Test Repo.

The WPS Linux License is here:
http://wps-community.org/license.md
I've had a look and while most of it seems OK, I'm not at all sure about the section concerning complying with Chinese export restrictions. It's not like we can block specific countries from accessing our repos. I tend to be cautious about licenses so I would lean against including it in our repos.
I think it could be OK in the MX-Package-Installer in the manner of Google Chrome or Spotify where the .deb downloads directly from the WPS download page to the user's computer.
That said, IANAL. Others might catch something in the agreement I have missed.
