... Good summary.
... Need also an information to know if the support is for x32, and/or AMD64 ... some of them above are only for AMD64 bits.

The two I did are 64bit... Mine actually probably need some cleanup but since interest is close to zero, I'm not hugely motivated.

Yes, it's not very easy, a lot of concurrence exists, antiX for the Minimal ... and for the distribution category Education too.

Thanks, I added them in OP.
There are currently 10 respins. Openbox is missing and I didn't check if any x32 or all are AMD64. Not sure if they have the info.

I made this MXStudio respin last year with a primary focus on audio production. It's based on MX-17 and I may get around to updating to MX-18 at some stage, probably when the weather gets colder in Melbourne. It was originally posted as an RC but I used it for a few projects and didn't find any reason to change it for a release version as it worked very well, so consider it final.

MX18-LMDE Respin by dpn
viewtopic.php?f=100&t=47224
must say this is not really a respin. It's a different system with another software set. It's built on antiX 17.3.1 core, with some MX-tools but without MX metapackages. So it's full compatible to Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) and provides a custom xfce desktop with full working mintsources and you can install all stuff from their repo and (of course) MX and Debian Stretch repos. The problem here is deb-multimedia.org and their poor package management, dmo must be enabled for work with the LMDE repo and their packages like mint-meta-codecs and so on.
This system comes without server/client stuff, so it is very lightweight in RAM use. All works fine but it isn't MX. It's a mix of four worlds (antiX, MX, LMDE and Debian), but Debian is really a great base to do things like that.

About to test the Mate edition.
Already really good on live session.
8:51 PM Edit : Really awesome installed !
I've just install the kernel 4.9.0-8 because at boot time there was a noice like "crack" in the sound system. Gone down to 4.9.0.8 solved that.
Is the MX Team would be ok for this version or you prefer stay focused on an only one desktop ?

I added new column: "Other Spin" for MX18-LMDE and MXStudio, if this is ok for dphn and sunrat.

That's ok. MXStudio is basically vanilla MX with Liquorix kernel, audio configs based on AVLinux and realtimeconfigquickscan script, packages/repos from KX Studio, and a bunch of packages added including several I built myself as they are not in repos.

I found this
1) Russian one - MX-18 Dark-64bit , however cannot download from my location neither see the video, someone may try in VM and see:
http://linux-romanov.info/sborka-mx-18-dark-64bit
Download from one of three cloudlike icons under the video (first one Yandex, second Mega, third Googledrive)
2) Japanified MX15-18/ antiX15-17 isos: http://simosnet.com/livecd/antix/

Chinese/Taiwanese one (seems with some tweaked support for Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese):
Live Debian System (MX unofficial respin).
with Mate (?):
https://sourceforge.net/projects/antix-mate-respin/
I suppose it is from this forum's user Emer:
ldsemerchen
There were some threads about his earlier Mate experiments last year (and he mentioned he abandoned it), have however seen no intro or link to above new respin here, so not sure how finalized it is:
http://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php? ... 4b#p437953
Except here some posts from him:

I'm so much interested on Minimal MX. I use MX for an year, after some other Linux 'distro' and I think it'quite wonderfull. I have an old Acer Aspire 5720 and now run so fast. I need an Usb 'mini' in case I'd go in Internet in a while. Many thanks to you all, and compliments for the 1 in Distrowatch

Hello @rasat
Here's a description of a functional Openbox. It probably needs some memory trimming; although, I think it works well for 64-bit.

I wish to know who is interested in the MATE respin and where to send a bug report? I have installed the new 18.3 respin and found mc in the menu. But by trying to run it, there is a message that xterm is needed. Okay, I can install it but it would be better when it would be in the image I think...

The iso is offered at
https://faitfranco.wordpress.com/2019/0 ... 019-05-27/ so I don't know if the provider has a user account here and I don't speak italian. :-(
So I have to say regretfully that the situation for MATE users with MX Linux is not comparable with that of Ubuntu MATE (official Respin) or Manjaro (Community Respin) due to the low demand. Too bad.

Though Linux is a community where things are shared, many distros (as well as respins) were created for the developers' own usage. Good and fine if others want to use, but not the aim, such as Arch Linux. Judd Vinet made it for himself, there was no intention to become a well-known distro.
Just go ahead make your own respin. Example, I am running my own Gnome + KDE apps respin since last six months. Its the best MX respin in the market.

If I only would have a How-To how to start.
There is no respin for taking as base for building my own respin, right?
There are two ways I think:
1. strip down the system to the absolut minimum and than install the wanted packages, but which ones can be deinstalled without breaking the system?
2. make it the pacstrap or debootstrap-way by installing it up from scratch and install all which is needed to run the MX tools, than I am free to install all what I want.
How did you get it done?

https://faitfranco.wordpress.com/2019/0 ... 019-05-27/
To make a respin of your own design.....
1) Install MX 18.3 (latest stable release)
2) sudo apt-get update (latest package updates)
3) Run synaptic (install your desired desktop e.g. Mate)
- Search in Quick filter: mate
- tag mate packages
- Apply
4) Logout and login Mate desktop
5) To install same system in another computer or as backup, create a respin with MX Snapshot

I got the urge to try a respin today. What I did was take Manyroads' MX Minimal respin, update it to make it current, then removed everything that was left after his own uninstalling which would be of no use on a server: things like alsa, pulseaudio, codecs, Transmission torrent client, Adobe Flash plugin, Java, sounds and artwork. I installed Samba for fileserver functionality, and Featherpad and the Qupzilla lightweight web browser because server admins at the console sometimes need to write notes or shell scripts, or look something up on the web. Anything else needed to turn it into anything more than a basic samba file and print server can be installed from the repos (Apache, PHP, MySQL, media server packages, etc.) plus intrusion detection apps, other firewalls, and server monitors.

Hi rasat, Thank you for this list. Would it be possible to add an indication of whether the spin is in 32-bit or 64-bit?
Something like
MX18 Continuum (Minimal) Release by manyroads (64-bit)

Thanks,

MX 19-x64 with support for some newer hardware, such as Intel tenth generation graphics, that won't boot to a GUI with standard MX 19/Buster packages. Includes backported 5.3 kernel, and the Mesa 19.2.1 that is now in the MX AHS section.

Thank you very much. Was very helpful. I liked the first KDE respin. But that second KDE respin is weird. I honestly got scared when I booted it up. The music started playing and a weird pop-up with cryptic text showed up after right-clicking. It appeared like malware.

I think the popup was just a notification from Juk (?) telling you which track was playing, if I recall correctly.

I have seen corruption in KDE notifications text before but it was a long time ago.
Who knows what modifications were made to the particular spin you were using. They are unofficial, untested, and not necessarily trustworthy although no issues have been reported afaik. Only a mother could love the theming in screenshots I've seen of some of the spins. :D

Agreed. As I'm a cautious person, I've only ever tried respins in Virtualbox and have not used them for anything where maintaining security is important, except for Stevo's (his old KDE4 spin) and Adrian's (Workbench, LXDE/ LXQt?) spins, since they are MX Devs.
With regard to jack's respin with the music autostarting, I don't really understand it but his approach is to create spins that has his "jack" user account preinstalled. When you boot up, it logs into "jack", autostarts audacious and music from his music folder starts playing. He has said it's because he's a music lover

. It's a very rejigged and non-standard Plasma setup.
We don't know much about him except for his "respin" announcements on this forum, so it's certainly not possible to endorse his spins. But then, there are no endorsements for any other respin either, except perhaps Adrian's and Stevo's stuff.
The users need to know all these respins are installed at the users' own risk.

Oh, I didn't know there's also Adrean's KDE spin.
Will check it out. Thank you very much.

i think the easiest way to get KDE the way you like it is to install KDE from MXPI and just set it up the way you like it rather than what someone else likes .... there are infinite options
there is no better way of learning about a DE than setting it up yourself from scratch
i also have start up music... hurdy gurdy music ......but would not want to inflict it on anyone else as a spin :)

I don't think Adrian has a KDE plasma respin. And Stevo's is from 2 releases ago, I believe. It wasn't even plasma, but kde4.
[CORRECTION : looks like Adrian does have a plasma spin.]

Well, yes. And it takes a very, VERY long time to download, it seems. Still 2% after 3 hours.

I'm not meating my deadlines so I need to install a spin which I can tweak a little quickly before getting accustomed to, say, i3wm or Awesome.

well ... at the current rate, your respin is going to take 4 days to download
installing Plasma would have taken about 30 minutes ... plus say another 30 to set it up

I'm honestly thinking about just sticking with XFCE or downloading a Mate spin at this point. Because I don't care about a DE anymore. At least MX works. I tried Solus. I tried Elementary. I tried openSUSE (GeckoLinux fork). None of them worked properly. It's a nightmare.

Respins are not official in any capacity.
For critical day to day please use the official version and get a grasp of any respins in a VM until you are ready.
Also, let’s get this thread back on track, it’s not a individual respin help thread.

ACTUALLY I started the download again and it shows that 1h 30m are left. It goes rather fast. I don't know if it's due to the server or not. So I might actually be able to try Adrian's spin.

I already figured it out the moment I booted up the live CD. Although it is the most functioning KDE respin I tested, that's for sure.

Just gotta say... When I came over to MX Linux from Linux Mint several years ago I never would have guessed that MX would lead me to the KDE Plasma Desktop!
Thanks Adrian!
But yeah, I got the KDE Plasma Desktop working great on both MX-17 and MX-18, but always had a kink or two to work out. My friends and family loved it though and got completely off Windoze forever. I went off and started playing with Vanilla Debian and Arch for the last couple years, but always maintained MX Linux USBs, some with XFCE and some with KDE Plasma. When MX-19 came out I wanted to offer a nice Respin, since I have a lot of experience making and maintaining MX Linux installations running KDE Plasma, but I got caught up in other activities. Now, however, I feel I have something worth offering...
Yeah, it's a Personal Respin at lz4 compression, and it's 3.2GB in size. No, there's not a lot of extras in it though; and yes it is extremely well documented regarding everything I did. I also have General Respins made, but you can remaster your own. If anyone is super interested I'll upload the 3.1 GB General Respin at lz4 compression or the 2 GB Personal and General versions at xz compression.
I tried some of the other MX / KDE Plasma respins here, but was left unsatisfied. No offense -- it ain't easy! This one is different. It actually works.
Try it and see for yourself!

I'll probably make a video about this Respin shortly and post it on LBRY at
https://lbry.tv/@Just-Kiss-It:2 and I'll probably write an article about it over on my blog-in-progress,
https://just-kiss-it.github.io/u_will/, because I LOVE MX Linux! Kind of an **MX-Addict** really. The blog is just a place for an old giraffe to cavort around playfully and spout out, so NO HATE! Seriously though, it's being completely revamped, brought up to date, with better organization and a completely different backend and frontend within the next month, as long as my health agrees!
Anyway, ENJOY! I'll try to roll into the forum within the next couple days and see how this was received.
(I may have posted this in the wrong thread accidentally. Sorry!)

When visiting the page of the "respin"; the title of each one should be corrected because they appear as MX19.3 when in reality they correspond to MX18.3
I downloaded one to try it out but was discouraged to see that it is an older version and not the new one.

Those are Adrian's "unofficial" respins (all respins are unofficial) of MX18. He numbered them by release date which is not directly related to the MX version.

Is there a way I could get my awesomewm spin added to this list?
I posted elsewhere a while back (
https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=64313) and was warned, let's say, about sharing mx-respins unofficially, but then I came across this list a few days ago.
I'm in no way, shape or form a dev and cannot offer to 'maintain' my spin, but I've been constantly tidying up my personal awesomewm spin, have created about 4 mx-specific themes to select from easily on the config file, and I am currently thinking of transitioning everything over to a build on MX-21.
It would be great to share the many hours of labour with fellow mx users.

Are there any current MX-21 Sid respins? Just curious.

I don't think so.
There aren't sid versions of MX's own repo and the packages within. Remember the team packages stuff that might not be in Debian at all, including the mx tools.
I mean, once you change the Debian repos to sid, you could presumably keep on using MX with the mx repo enabled until eventually stuff within might become incompatible. Not sure in particular how long the systemd-shim in MX's repo will last.
Then you might just be left with a pure Debian sid install without any mx goodness, which kind of defeats the purpose of using MX instead of normal Debian.
That's my guess, at least.
You could however try the antiX sid version, which is totally systemd-free.

Pickin cherry thread. Amazing it's so hard to find the raspi official final iso. If it's useable, I would actually buy a piboard/keyboard pc just to see it work. The pi IS a desktop, just not x64.
It's apparently in "mx modified/mx respins" but searching for it doesn't give a link. In fact, what I did find said there was none lol. I had to use an actual search engine to find it (searx.neocities.org). Anyways, even if it doesn't work well it should still be listed as a respin cause if that aint, I dont know what is. Greetings,
I am a teacher who is trying to refurbish 60-80 chromebooks with linux. I have sucessfully installed MX linux xfce. Everything is fine except sound - something quite necessary for a school.
When I searched the forum I found nothing when I searched MX linux for chromebooks. They are ACer c771 with intell core i5 chip. The audio is also from intel but I cant find a fireware for linux.
Wondered if any respin exists or maybe someone has done this and knows a trick I need to learn.
If I can figure this out, I'd love to post a respin for chromebooks as many schools will face no support. Be ashamed to trash machines 3-4 yrs old.
If I can get answers then Ill be back to ask how to share a MX Linux educational chromebook version. (and I will be very happy!)

MXRPI version works and booted OK on my limited 512MB ram PI with single core arm processor. I think I used Belena Etcher to burn the live .img to a 32 gig sd card. Been awhile so am not sure.
I recommend a newer board than mine though as a daily driver. Quad core with 2 to 4 gig of ram. Ran slow on my board. It was enough for me it booted OK though. Ran Firefox even.
Instead of throwing my money at another pi. I bought a intel NUC for 50 bucks and a Dell Chromebook II for 50 bucks.

Hi
@rasat
First, thanks very much for updating the list! I have a couple of small corrections for the OP... My MXDE respin based on LXDE has been discontinued and replaced with MXDE-EFL which is based on the Enlightenment Desktop Environment. It has it's own website here:
http://www.bandshed.net/mxde-efl-build/
Secondly AV Linux also has it's own website here:
http://www.bandshed.net/avlinux/
I think it is better (at least for my projects) to have links to the websites because it will always guide people to the latest versions instead of Forum posts that may have gotten out of date, Thanks!
