Editing video or Video editor

#1 Post by namida12 »

I am torn between a GoPro Hero (basic Cam), to film some rides, on the bicycle. Or to get a more expensive Sony Cam for the same function.

But it comes down to video software, and not the camera i decide upon.

Openshot. it said to be easy to use, has a decent GUI, and all the features a beginner needs.

Cineleerra, still buggy? Is anyone using this software to edit video in MX-14?

Kdenlive, a lot of KDE-based dependencies to install, does it run in MX-14 without problems

Pitivi???

This is not a serious must have capability, but I really do not want to make a dual boot system for video editing, hence the Community Fun thread classification...

My previous posting: not quite the same question...

I do not have anything specific. there are a lot of kdenlive how-to's on youtube. I watched a lot of those. and there is smoothing filter that you might like as I know gopro footage can be a little bumpy given the target market.

Did that sort of thing as a job for several years, our basic rules were (a) If you are going to dub a voice over commentary, sort out the script first then edit pictures to the sound track. (b) If it's just a music sound track edit the pix for best effect, then add sound to suit.
(c) If it's live sound, such as a music group or a speaker, try to give yourself a bit of leeway before and
after the item, makes cueing and editing easier.

Used to edit sound by cutting and joining tapes. Then we got a multitrack recorder. These days I use Audacity, learning curve is not too steep and results are great.

Also prefer kdenlive to openshot.

Latest from GoPro:
Hi JR,

It's great to hear you are so enthusiastic about GoPro and we really appreciate your interest in working with our products. All GoPro product suggestions or feedback can be submitted here: http://gopro.com/connect.

After agreeing to the policy, you can then choose the "I have product feedback for GoPro" option, and then submit your feedback.

I think it would be a totally valid inquiry to get Linux supported with Studio, but our engineers may not have gotten enough feedback showing that to be a priority. If you do find a forum of Linux users who want Studio, make sure they have submitted their feedback at the above link.

To be kept up to date on any new product releases, please be sure to sign up for our online newsletter:
http://gopro.com/newsletter/
Many Thanks,

Jake H.

Guess this needs to be published in a active location to get other Linux users comments for a GoPro Editor port, or maybe some GoPro $$ support for a existing Linux Video Editor that works well with the GoPro product.

Some of the filters won't work without ffmpeg
Xine is used for previewing.
I would definitely install both of those.
RecordMyDesktop is optional. It does what it says, but you may have no use for it.
The others are necessary for making DVDs or iso files for burning DVDs. Again, you may not need them but it can't hurt to have them.

Tim,

FFmpeg & ffplay & Xine - Not listed in synaptic. Lower case ffmpeg listed and installed, but not seen. Guess I need to add a or some repertoires to get versions needed?
