It appears that the original wine-staging maintainers are no longer going to be involved. https://www.wine-staging.com/news/2018- ... aging.html

Perhaps that fork they linked on github will keep it going...let's see what happens.

The new fork is updated to wine-staging 3.3, and we now have that in the testing repo. This has possible Vulkan support, along with new Kerberos support, too!

They're all yours from now on. The PPA seems to be most sincerely dead, so we'll just have to add the wine-staging folders and files to vanilla Wine like I did this time to make our own wine-staging orig.tar files.

Do we need to continue with Wine staging? I used Wine for several years before staging appeared and now that the developers appear to have put staging on the shelf, would not a change back to vanilla Wine (wonder what that tastes like?) be easier?

Try using MX Package Installer-> Full App catalog->MX Test Repo. Search for winehq and install that.

Then post back.

I used MX Package Installer-> Full App catalog->MX Test Repo. It came up with box saying "Processing finished successfully." but it did NOT. I moved the box aside and there are unmet depends: wine-staging (=3.3-1~nx17+1) and others. That is why I wished I could copy it and not have to type it.

Gordon, A new crew has picked wine-staging up. Wine-staging usually is at least a couple releases ahead of vanilla wine so you get a newer wine with staging as well. Also, when you install wine, if you want to set up a 32 bit prefix, you need to install another package (wine32) and then run the wine prefix script. Where with staging, you just need to run the prefix script =>

Code: Select all

WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine winecfg
That's a couple reasons why we provide wine-staging.

You should be getting wine-staging-3.4 now. When the install is truly successful, you should get a pick in whisker called 'other'. The new wine-3.4 should upgrade over 3.3. If you attempted to install wine by searching for and selecting wine-staging instead of winehq from mxpi OR synaptic, you will get the unmet dependencies error.

wine-staging-3.3 is no longer in the test repo.

You may have a stuck package limiting you.

Is your system fully updated?

Maybe completely remove the wine-staging 3.3 you mentioned earlier, updating completely, then try installing winehq from mxpi again.

Made sure anything to do with wine was gone. System was just installed on Sunday and all updates done. Now just adding programs like I had on MX16.

So I use wine from Popular Applications and after setup did an upgrade from "Test Repo" and that worked.

Now that other maintainers are keeping wine-staging current, and actually cleaning up ancient patches better than before, it's not that hard to build the current releases. It's actually a lot more difficult to backport the vanilla wine-devel from upstream Debian.

We package our wine as wine-staging. To install or upgrade, search for "winehq" in mx package installer. This will produce the package " winehq-staging" at the top of the list. Install that package. It will drag in whatever else it needs, which includes packages named wine-staging-compat, wine-staging-amd64/i386, wine-staging and some additional packages it needs to run.

Thanks for the test.

Do we have a list of packages moving to main?

I was hoping for openshot & kdenlive that are in test.

Currently it's mostly hardware stuff in the dev repo like the new Mesa and the packages needed to support it, the newer video drivers, firmware, and kernel, and so on, along with GIMP 2.10.8 and its newer freetype and fontconfig packages. There's also a patched MyPaint, but that won't be on the ISO. Featherpad 0.9.1 also was moved to main in preparation to be included on the ISO.

Kdenlive and openshot aren't going to be on the ISO, so can be moved to main when they're ready. If you think they are, let Tim know.

I just update all the wine's that had the recycle sign. When I go there now I show a 'wine-nono4.7.3 1.0-1mx17+1' that was not noted there before. History has me going from:

plus these
wine-staging-compat

I do always cancel this mono installer questions. As mono is only required for some
applcations, most of them do not need mono. If needed you can always reinstall later.

I don't see any satellite options in Space Engine, but I can track the ISS in Stellarium, which seems a better tool for Earth-based stuff anyway. In that Space Engine video, I was many thousands of light years from Earth...somewhere a lot closer to the galactic core. You can also explore galaxies many billions of light years away, too.

Turns out that one of the wine-staging patches reverts the need for faudio back to xaudio, which is a good idea since faudio has not been packaged for any Debian plus almost no mainstream distros yet. It is in Debian "new" though, for evaluation.

The result of the configure shows we could add libvkd3d-dev to "provide an API similar to Direct3D 12 built on top of the Vulkan library", as well as libavcodec-dev for some other feature, though.

That must be it. I changed to your LA repo and now it's offering to let me install the upgraded version. (I said no then switched back to my original mirror.)

Edit: yes, when I tried again a few hours later I was able to update from my pregi.net mirror in Quezon City. It might work for towwire now too. Apparently the package list got to the mirror before the actual packages did.

wine-staging-7.2 along with its wine-mono7.1.1 are now in test. My testing indicates this one is pretty solid except for anything 16 bit where any selected window is grayed out making any text in that window unreadable. If you run anything 16 bit, I advise is that you stay with version 6.5 - Mike
