I was playing a little bit with Rofi, borrowing some concepts from Melber's Comfort-themes and from layouts presented on this github-site: https://github.com/adi1090x/rofi

Very fine @kobaian ! I hope we will be able to put out a small collection when the rofi manager is released in a couple of weeks so I hope you will consider being part of that.

What Jerry said. They are excellent. Care to share the rasi files / fiddle to them work with rofi-manager (hint hint)?

Am I right in recalling you are using awesome-font for the "icons which aren't actually icons"? What happens if that's not installed? Do the tabs display no text or does the symbol get substituted with gobbledegook in some other default fallback font?

Thank you!
I'll will share the rasi.files , but I have to do some changes to let them work outside my system. I'll manage it soon, maybe even this weekend.

Yes, that's right. I think the FontAwesome really expands the possibilities of theming Rofi. I couldn't find any available symbol font that does the job.

It depends...
The symbols for the mode-switcher are defined by lines like that:

Code: Select all

display-drun:    "";
If you don't have the FontAwesome Rofi will replace them with a characters from another font style, that don't make any sense.
If you remove the definitions you'll get "drun, run, window, etc." that is not a very good option, if you want to have that thin, stylish sidebar on the left from my first example.
You can also change the symbol using some characters from the available fonts, if you find anything interesting there.

Fully agree and share your appreciation of this awesome iconfont (no pun intended).
It is commonly used in openbox, fluxbox, i3 and many other window managers. Not only useful in rofi, but also in tint2 panel buttons/executors, conky widgets, notification messages etc etc.
Installation takes up 1500 kb of disk space only. Guess it wouldn't harm to add the fonts-font-awesome package to the default MX Fluxbox installation...

Good idea, we'll certainly consider that possibility. Took a quick look just now, and don't see ATM how that could be done.

I would suggest using the fonts-fork-awesome package instead as it is the larger and more complete set of symbols, the current fonts-font-awesome package is intended for use with Twitter bootstrap.

Here is my Christmas themed desktop for the year. I've imported a transparent blue bobble into my wallpaper and then wrote a cocky around them. I then color coordinated my root menu, tint2 toolbar and rofi to match each other. Rounded the corners of the root menu and toolbar. I then added a halo font effect to my root menu titles and window titles to give it a candy cane look.
