Mate, you've got a bum steer answer on page 1 - it's not a "red line" - it's a duplicate of an icon to the right, which is tucked under your "infected" icon.
It happens to the mx-update panel icon most of the time.

Right you are! Looking closer to the image attachment I have on my post #9, I can see the "red line" duplicates the curved right side of the circular icon immediately to its right. The circular icon is white, but the "line" is red for some reason.

It made sense when you said that it happens to the mx-update icon most of the time because I remembered seeing a thin (a few pixels wide) "red line" to the right of this update icon, and in both cases the "line" suddenly disappears after a few minutes.

And my suggested band aid requires hiding an icon, not deleting one. But as I said it is not a solution. It most likely is an XFCE issue.

No it's not. I've just had temporarily on my X1 the ArcoLinux XFCE edition - and there's absolutely no artifacts in the panel.
It's how the notification area is integrated into the shell. Something is impacting on it in MX causing it to falter, maybe one of the aps in notification area... who knows
Definitely not clipit - I uninstalled it (not deleted the icon).

Yes, it doesn't integrate with pilse audio (pavucontrol) and doesn't change the volume at all, at least across BT interface
You can safely uninstall it - volumeicon-alsa in MPI rather than hiding, it won't affect alsa - I did it and the sound kept on working :)

On MX19 RC1 x64 when selecting Grub install settings during the install process, choosing install to PBR doesn't automatically select the root partition. Eg installing MX to sda8, the automatically selected partition when selecting install grub to PBR was sda5 (existing MX18 installation). I would think it should automatically select the root partition.

Also Kodi for some reason doesn't include the Kodi repository!

That's the Debian Buster build of Kodi 17.6. Are you referring to an official Kodi addon repository, or one of the many third-party ones which are nothing more than wretched hives of scum and villainy? I'm pretty sure Debian disables unofficial Kodi repos for security reasons.

Thanks guys. I good point. Let's wait for MX 19.1, but also support till 2022, is a very good deal. At least, they are my friends and not my babies . I can help them and show the path, but I can not continue for them all the time.

Those that have upgraded xfce 4.12 to 4.14 on MX 18 via my OBS repo, including my test installs, report that it went quite smoothly, so I don't think that will be an issue when saving /home when doing the MX 18 to MX 19 reinstall.

Maybe if you wait a bit after MX 19 is out, we'll have an MX migration app that duplicates many of the functions of aptik-gtk, which is no longer developed as freeware. For now, you can install aptik-gtk and use it to save a list of your installed packages, then reinstall it in MX 19 and use that list to reinstall those packages.

in chromium with the rc1 when i tried importing the bookmarks i had in my documents>MX linux folder usually you click on documents, then mxlinux folder which opens and choose the html bookmarks backup file. took me a few attempts but it appears that you have to choose a folder then click open at the bottom right and then click on the respective folder again to open etc. is this an mx thing now or chromium issue? was totally fine and so-called normal in 18.3. just letting you know. i happen to just come around to making it work in an unorthodox way.

For now, you can install aptik-gtk and use it to save a list of your installed packages, then reinstall it in MX 19 and use that list to reinstall those packages.

The free version of aptik still works fine... I just installed the MX-19 RC and then restored all of my Home/settings/apps*/mounts (swapfile fstab settings) etc from 18.3 without any problems. But I'll do the same when I get time on another Laptop just to check.

Thanks for checking in another distro. All I can say is that I can get rid of it. If you discover a real solution let us all know.
