Just for comparison, could somebody do one up with the icons sligltly separated and a set off border, looking something like a horizontal Egyptian cartouche?

Brilliant Utopia! The gradient across both icons is a very nice touch. I agree with Jerry that a little more separation might be good. I also like his idea of more of a border around the rectangle. Maybe like the border around the Mepis logo in this post. I'm not certain that's what Jerry meant.

You mean like this. Henry will have to clean up the corners, etc.
