Yeah, I like this guy and subscribe to his channel.

He does a good series called "xxxxx is X Linux?" where he reviews oddball distros he comes across on distrotube. To date he's done xxxxx is Zelph Linux? xxxxx is Septor Linux? xxxxx is Bluestar Linux? xxxxx is ExTix Linux? Love it

Just read that. Sounds to me like a bad ISO or something similar, since no one has reported anything similar in a month of intense testing.

Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

its the ahs release. the suspend/resume issues are noted in the release blog. the 5.14 kernel still has issues I think in the graphics drivers. he would probably do better with the standard release, or at least the 5.10 kernel, which is what the KDE release does. ahs repo + 5.10 kernel. the only reason we released it at all was that we were seeing users reporting that they hardware was new enough to not be supported by the 5.10 kernel. its great that AMD is open source, but forcing a kernel update to get new drivers is the one major weakness of the linux system.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

That would not be a problem if new releases would not create problems. And they wouldn't in general, but because people use closed source drivers then new releases will break those so you cannot win...

What a half-assed, semi-ignorant, and sadly done review.

I spent more time reading it than he did learning the new version.
There is a dock-like applet for the panel, but you cannot manually rearrange icons there, so you need to unpin and then pin icons to get them sorted as you like.
Instead of making uninformed false statements and say that trying to screw in a screw by beating it with a hammer is the only way to do it....
How about RTFM, wiki, or maybe take 5 minutes to look at MX Tour to learn how to move pinned apps in the dock?
Furthermore, during the boot, you can see an AMDGPU error show on the screen, which is NOT there when you boot the KDE one. Hint, this would also most likely explain why Firefox isn't launching, especially if it expects to use hardware acceleration (enabled by default), and there ain't no proper firmware support, so the system can't use the GPU correctly, hence the CPU revving.
Its the same hardware support components (same drivers, same firmware) as in KDE except for the kernel! Plenty of people with newer AMD GPUs don't have an issue at all.

So hot and than cold with this guy. Its like hit or miss the type of review you get, all dependent on what Chinese Festival is taking place that week.
I don't know if he was strapped for time, was too locked into tunnel vision at the time, or is going completely senile.

Either way, I'm pretty much at the point where I am done with giving his site clicks anymore, could care less about what yet another random person on the internet has to say.
Which is exactly what he is turning into when he puts together reviews like this.

I do not know about XFCE, but I have installed without any serious problem MX 21 KDE on three different machines
1) Macbook PRO Mid 2014
2) Dell Optiplex
3) Tuxedo Aura
In all three cases all my programs (QT Creator, Android Studio, Visual Studio Code, Ms Teams, Skype, Netbeans) work without any problems at all
regards
