After years of trying to make things look better, I have given up tweaks and use the OS just as it arrives. The left-hand side panel, basic wallpaper and screen layout are fully acceptable as is. With no cosmetic changes to make, the system is put to use without delay. Yes,there are a few additions, qBittorrrent and choice of Conky immediately, a video editor and Audacity, leter when they are needed.
 I am constantly tweaking. And in my mind it always looks better and easier to use with each tweak. Of course it is pretty darn good if left alone.

That is one of the really good properties of MX, it can be left alone. Reminds me of one of the aviation navigational aids we looked after nearly 70 years ago. A team came from HQ every couple of years to do a so called overhaul. They did tweak some settings but once they had departed, we put all the adjustments back to where they had been and the equipment kept running perfectly. IMHO many of the reported bugs in MX, are the result of unnecessary tweaks.

Depends what you tweak, though.

Aesthetic tweaks - themes, icons, wallpaper, conky - are fun! (YMMV) and don't affect the system.

I never touch the left horizontal panel, because I'm used to it in MX and it makes sense to me (when I use Gnome desktop I leave the Dash on the left edge as well).

But I add a small horizontal panel at the bottom to act as a dock.

hey all, thanks for a stable-fast release and for implementing encryption in MX18 installer :)

tried MX with 18beta first (interested to check out luks with mx) and then RC1 and now MX18 official.. i only have one issue on boot time. possibly plymouth related (?).
install process with encryption finishes succesfully everytime, but boot would get stuck on plymouth theme after input of luks passphrase. have to press F1 to go to verbose mode for boot to actually continue.. otherwise it stays stuck on that screen for ever.
tried different plymouth themes, and in some of them i get no input box for luks passphrase). in other plymouth themes i just get stuck there as mentioned above. till i press F1 and escape boot theme.

any ideas/fixes/workarounds?
thanks,
d.

Any reason the live USB shows as antiXlive when loaded on an existing machine?

I guess it's the second description that newer versions of gparted show besides the label.

I think b/c the entire Live system was worked out by the antiX developers.

Gparted shows MX-Live in my case when the Live USB is inserted. Made with MX Live USB Maker.

Everything works perfect in MX 18 x64, only when I use Firefox and Thunderbird at the same time freeze the machine at times, if I use only Thunderbird there is no problem. This is a situation that happened to me in MX 17 that's why I stopped using Firefox and I think I'm going to uninstall it in MX 18 and use Vivaldi or Opera.
