"Updated" Senpai Respin MX-Cinnamon 23.6 for x32 and x64-AHS-LMK, with Cinnamon 6.4.8 of Mint LMDE

Posted: Wed Jun 19, 2024 5:57 pm
by Senpai
Hi:
I am pleased to present my new MX-Cinnamon Respin 23.5 as Desktop environment in its 32 and 64bit versions with the MX/Debian 6.1.0-30 Kernel, adding some programs to complete all possible uses.

The Respin has the Cinnamon 6.4.6 of Mint LMDE, has the MX AHS and Mint LMDE repositories enabled to have the latest packages, does not have the Mint Software store, as that would install packages that would take away the charm of MX...
Instead it has "MX-Package Installer" with the "Popular Applications" option, the official and test repositories and a Flatpaks program installer.

All MX-Tools work very well, except for the Tour , in MX-Tweak only the "others" tab is displayed.

As in all MX respin, the default user and password are: "**demo**" / "**demo**".

My download site: https://sourceforge.net/projects/senpai ... -cinnamon/

"NEW"
Added to Live a Multi Kernel (LMK) boot in the 64bits version, in my blog there is a tutorial on how to choose between the two kernels...
In English https://sourceforge.net/p/senpai-respin ... l-kernels/

In Spanish https://sourceforge.net/p/senpai-respin ... le-kernel/

Best regards

I have downloaded and installed
On my first attempt I created a standard install usb
Installation went fine till it reached 93% , then it sat there for over 20 minutes
Looking at the diagram at the right ....it was busy ! ( doing what ? )
I stopped it
On my second attempt I created a Live-usb and installed from there
Again, it went up to 93% , then I waited 15 minutes and then stopped it
At 93% , configuration settings, it usually take a few minutes, regardless of DE.
But not 20 minutes

Sorry, I will try again tomorrow !
It looks promising :number1:

I decided to change ( temporary replace ) my hard drive with a " blank " one .
Your iso installed perfectly and flawlessly !
I rebooted 4 times ....no problems
So,,,there might be a " configuration issue "
No idea what, where, why, who , but.... I will try again on regular HD

OK
I have defined that "most-probably",the problem is in 'my' bios ( slightly overloaded with unnecessary crap ).
So, for 99,9% of downloaders there should - not - be a problem . OK?
Sorry for the previous posts
I give permission to the forum moderators to remove all . No problem !

Hi:
I'm glad it worked for you in the end  , it is possible that you have the UEFI overloaded, a few days ago I also had to clean it because I still had systems that I no longer have installed on my disk.... 9_9
Use the "efibootmgr" command for a simple view of the systems you have in UEFI, and delete the ones that are not already there.... "efibootmgr -h" for the necessary commands, and "efibootmgr -v" for a more complete view...
If you are ok with Respin let me know, I don't usually use Cinnamon for daily use. ;)

Best regards

Hi:
Now that the new Cinnamon seems more stable, I have updated my MX-Cinnamon respin to its latest version 6.2.9, I have created and uploaded the new ISOs with the latest updates as of today, if someone has it installed there is no need to reinstall, just update with MX-Updater or with the apt commands

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
and

Code: Select all

sudo apt full-upgrade
The download site:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/senpai ... -cinnamon/

Best regards

I have downloaded and did a fresh install
As far as I can see, everything is OK
exception 1 : I ran into the << stop at 93% issue>> again. Fixed it.
Note: this is not specific to your release, but to the MX installer in general.
From the 100 installs I have done, only MX does this
Yesterday I installed Sleeper OS Trinity and Cinnamon. Both are antix based and use the MX installer. No problems on my desktop nor my laptop with <93% and stop here please>
So not your fault
Exception 2 : as with <most> Pipewire-installed distros, I get a terrible crackling sound when playing Midi files with Timidity and Pianobooster ! Or with other words, by using Pulseaudio there are Zero crackles, by using pipewire there are a million crackels.
How to fix this......I don't have a clue
If you know how to change Pipes-to-Pulses , please give me instructions
I ran CinnaMX ( version 1 ) from DaGarma ( pulseaudio ) and it was clean

Apart from those 2 things it's an excellent Respin
Thanks a lot !

The sound is cristal clear - no distortions.
Thanks a lot

Hi:
I'm glad you were able to solve the Pipewire issue, it is a recurring problem in all distros depending on the hardware of each PC, you will have to give it time... but you can always go back to pulseaudio...
Regarding the installation stopping at 93%... it has never happened to me in my installations, both in physical and virtual...
Could it be because some user data is missing (name, password), or some Grub option...? :crossfingers:

Best regards

I don't know.
In previous post I mentioned it was always after using Gparted
This time around it was after NOT using Gparted to clean up first
I don't know . As all is working fine, I just live with it as "" one of those things ""

Thay was for the midi files.
As far as some other soundfiles are concerned , it's better to have Pipewire .

Is there not somewhere a way """to change from Pipe to Pulse to Pipe again """ without rebooting from sda5 to sda6 to sda5 again ?
@ Senpai : this is a very good respin ( on my hardware )
Thanks

Hi:
Let's see if a colleague can tell you, the truth is that the sound, if it sounds it's ok ;)
I guess you would have to reinstall pipewire again, but I don't know if you can have both installed and alternate indistinctly?

Thanks, I'm glad you like the Respin and it works well for you :number1:

Well, I have finally decided to put <<the crackling midi files issue >> aside for the rest of the year 2024.
We will see how pipewire advances with this issue. Will take some time, for sure, but...Rome was not build in one day either ! ! !
Or.....maybe better I keep CinnaMX v1( pulse ) there for my Midi business
After all, there is nothing wrong with it anyway !

Re-installed with Pipewire
Installing Rhythmbox will reduce the crackles with 90 to 95%, depending if you listen with high or low quality speakers or headphones
Also Timidity was removed as it has no purpose anymore ( also Pianobooster )
Quality is good enough in my opinion
See you

Hi Tony45;
Unfortunately my PC is dead... I have no graphics and the Bios of my motherboard which is from 2016... played a trick on me and has erased the partition table of the disks that I have partitioned with GPT...
When I can put a new graphic, I will have several days of work, to hopefully recover the most important data, of my most important personal data I had copies, but not the rest... I consider lost my virtual machines, ISOs, downloads and test installations... :frown: :bawling:
In short... a disaster and a bad time to go through... Sorry for the rant... :footinmouth:

I can't test it, but if the program is in the main Mint LMDE repository that is added to respin, there should be no problem, if you have to add another repository, I wouldn't advise it, but you can try adding it to “Debian” mode.
what you should not do is use PPAs, as they are incompatible with Debian.

Best regards

I am very very sorry to hear that.
As I had several disasters like that in the last 5 years, I know how you feel.
I wish you a speedy recovery
As for folder-color-switcher.......I will see what I can do myself.
There is no hurry for that

Hi:
I've been looking in my friend's Cinnamon respin and the package “folder-color-switcher” appears in the Mint LMDE repository, so you could install it without problems, what does it do or what is that package for?

It allows you to change individually folder colors - on a one-by-one base !
Clock a folder, a menu pops up, select Red , click. and now you have a red folder.
If for some reason you want to reverse your choice, you can click < default > and all is original again. OR you can choose another color
However if you change to another OS than Mint, the color you choose is not there anymore---> Mint only
I've been looking in my friend's Cinnamon respin and the package “folder-color-switcher” appears in the Mint LMDE repository
Sorry but I am not able to locate that Repo
Some help please

Sorry but I am not able to locate that Repo
Some help please
I think I found the problem / Issue
--I decided to re-download the original snapshot
--Then I burned it to 2 USBs with Mx Live USB Maker
---> First USB I choose FULL.....
---> Second USB I choose IMAGE ....
Results............
The one burned with FULL ---> Shows folder-color-switcher in Synaptic
The one burned with IMAGE --> Does NOT show folder-color-switcher in Synaptic

So, I take it as : The one shows Mint repos, the other does not show Mint repos

Maybe some corrections sometime ?? That is, if I am correct ofcourse ! !

Anyway, for me, I will do a brand-new install one of these days
No problem for me ( its part of Linux-Life )
Thanks for everything 1 ! !

I installed your respin, created with FULL.....
I installed folder-color-switcher ( which was clearly in synaptic )
After install and reboot, there is no folder-color-switcher in the menu (nowhere )
Also, in Synaptic/Settings/Repositories......nothing pops up when clicking on repositories

Thats it for today
I give it another try tomorrow

EDIT:
I gave it a try from my install-USB
--->> same as above
--> Tomorrow is < Rest Day >

Edit 2:
I downloaded the .deb package from Mint
Installed using gdebi

Menu shows nothing
Clicking on folders shows nothing

FYI : it's working in pclos-deb-cinnamon
It's working in LMDE v6

Hi @Tony45 :

The repository is included in my respin, check it with MX-Repo or Synactic.

I have installed my respin in virtual machine and “folder-color-switcher” appears in both Synaptic and MX Package Installer, it installs without problems, and if you look in the Nemo configuration in add-ons, it appears activated, there it tells you that it is only compatible with Mint icons, it seems that Numix circle are not compatible, but if you change to Mint ones, you can do what you need.
I attach images.

As I show you in the images of the previous post, in my respin “folder-color-switcher” is installed without problems, but it is not a program that has to appear in the menu
EDIT

It is a Nemo plugin, and in the 2nd image you can see that it is installed, but it is a plugin that “only” works with Mint icons, so you would have to configure the “Theme” you have with Mint icons... so that the option shown in the 1st image appears.
It is in the Nemo toolbar in “Edit->Preferences->Complements->Extensions”.

Thanks for the tests  , I'm looking forward to have the new PC to leave my beloved Mate for a while, and have Cinnamon as Respin for daily use for a few months to see it in depth, since Mate takes so long to update in Debian, Cinnamon seems to me a modern and nice replacement.

MX has the latest version of the Debian Brackports repositories, does Gparted 3.6 really have any such necessary features?

Sorry, I was correcting the link when you posted. Debian Backport is behind on gparted, too. I am not saying that newer is better. Just that 1.7.0 is the latest and there is no 3.6.

Yes, I suppose that 3.1 or 3.6 are versions given by the different distributions to their own builds in their repositories, but I'm not sure why or what the difference is.

thanks for that! everything works except for adding a wireguard.config-file. if you do it via the network manager in linux-mint, everything works as expected, in mx-linux it always complains that it is not a valid cisco-compatible VPN-file .... this happens also in older versions of cinnamon in mx-linux. maybe you can help, because my wife really wants the cinnamon-desktop with mx-linux .... :-/

Hi:
On my Respin with Cinnamon 6.4 I don't like having to go to the Menu every time I want to shutdown/restart/suspend, etc., so I have installed in the Taskbar of Cinnamon 6.4 the mini application ‘ShutdownMenuWithIcons’ but as it's from Mint it comes prepared only for SystemD...,
I've modified it to work also in SysVinit, in case it's useful for anyone I share the ‘*.json’ file that can be ‘imported’ from the application itself...
Greetings

Hi:
I don't usually use Wireguard, when I need it, a free Proton VPN account is enough for me, I'll try that configuration in Wireguard and I'll comment...

Hi:
I'm using this MX respin with Cinnamon 6.4, I've installed my free version of ProtonVPN and I see that by default it uses WireGuard... it doesn't give me any problems, what server do you use? the website of your VPN server should give you instructions on how to install WireGuard.

@Senpai FYI - Wireguard is in MXPI > Enabled, in MX-21.3 Xfce.

++EDIT IIRC, Proton's website said that openVPN UDP should be used, or is the default.
BUT, Proton has about a half-a-dozen different installation pages, CLI, Debian, Linux APP, and one specifically for MX, and others, I believe.

But I don't know this stuff.
++EDIT2 I stand corrected:
Proton VPN now uses WireGuard by default because it is secure while also being faster and more efficient than OpenVPN.
per: https://protonvpn.com/blog/openvpn-vs-wireguard/

Wireguard built in kernel: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2020/03 ... ux-kernel/

Cheers!

hi, i'm using my own wireguard-server and within kde, gnome and xfce the wireguard.conf-file are loading without any problems. in cinnamon i can use nmcli-commands but i want to use a graphical system-tools .... and i don't want to install or compile any other software!

ok, when i use your 6.4.6 version of cinnamon i can install the wireguard-file with nmcli-commands and in the taskbar i can switch the vpn on and off. so, it depends on which version cinnamon is. on my thinclient-pc im on 5.6.8 ...

next question: how to upgrade?

Hi:
I seem to remember that my first version of MX-Cinnamon/LMDE respin was with Cinnamon 6.2.9. How can you have 5.6.8? that's the version of Cinnamon from Debian that is installed from the Debian repos that MX-Linux comes with?
Are you sure you had 5.6.8, because do you have my respin installed, or do you have Cinnamon installed from the Debian repos which is 5.6.8....

hello, i installed it from the repos and found later your respin. i tried the wireguard-files in your cimmanon-version and it works out of the box. i cannot remove my first installation, 'cause my wife needs it for homeoffice and she doesn't like xfce, kde and gnome ... grrr. she has to use a paid version of teamviewer and i cannot change a lot of my installation. but now i could install the 6.4.6 version of cinnamon after i looked a little bit in your respin and searched the internet. many thanks for that!

Hi:
Glad you like it, I'm using it as my main system with no problems, Cinnamon has been updated from ISO version 6.4.6 to 6.4.8 with no problems, and I haven't encountered any bugs in using it or installing my programs.

Tell me how it goes ;) , so far I have not encountered any problems on my main PC, with the new PC this time I'm not using any kernel or AHS or Liquorix, I do not need, everything works with the 6.1 that brings MX by default.

Hi:
Until now it had not happened to me, that's why I had not implemented a “pining” files in “preferences.d” in the ISO of my Cinnamon respin with the Mint Debian repositories, but in the last system update it tries to update two Mint packages over the MX ones, so I have created and tested the “mx-mint-pinning” file that has to go in “/etc/apt/ preferences.d”, so that MX-Linux updates are kept in preference to Linux Mint or Debian ones.
The files you want to install are “debian-system-adjustments (2023.08.21-faye) and grub2-theme-mint (1.2.3), also if you install them it asks to remove ‘libgdk-pixbuf-xlib-2.0-0 (2.40.2-2) and libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 (2.40.2-2)’, so don't update it and include the file ‘’mx-mint-pinning” in the reference directory.

File “mx-mint-pinning” for download.
I will upload it to my Sourceforge site and update the ISOs shortly.

Best regards

Hi:
The ISOs are already updated by adding the “mx-mint-pinning” file to the “/etc/apt/preferences.d” path to give preference to MX-Linux packages, over Mint ones.

On my download site you can download the new ISOs or just the “mx-mint-pinning” file, if it is already a live installation.

Hi @Tony45, if you already had Respin installed, you only need to download “mx-mint-pinning.zip” and place the file “mx-mint-pinning” in the path “/etc/apt/preferences.d”.

Ok, I've got some kind of partition problem going on.
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Senpai, thanks for this. I started outfitting an older Dell AIO for a boy I know, and I found mx-xfce too plain, and mx-kde a bit too heavy for the machine's and the boy's capabilities. So I tried Mint-cinnamon, and thought it struck a very nice balance between the two. But I missed some of the features and power of mx!

That's when I found this thread. I'm in the process of installing, and met a few problems.

• There was no way to enter root user credentials, they were grayed out.
• Grub was not installable on the ESP partition, so I opted for MBR.
• The installation is stuck at 93% and has gone nowhere for 20m now.

I'm installing on a 98gb ext4 partition, with an 8gb swap partition (~ size as the RAM).
Is there something that jumps out at you that I need to be doing? Thanks.

No, I rebooted (I had done partition work and thought maybe a reboot would be needed). Then everything went smoothly, except the installer would not pick up my keyboard layout changes - no big deal. But again it's stuck at 93%.

Being stuck at 93% I had 4 or 5 times already with MXlinux-cinnamon ( I think cinnamon-usergreen)
In my case it was that I partitioned the installation partition with GParted , then rebooted and installed
I can NOT remember < exactly > what I did that time, but...maybe it was like this: Install....systen hangs....reboot...install it again....now it works
But guaranteed, it had to do with partitioning just before install ( which is my standard use for 20 years ).
Wish you good luck

Ok, I found the desktop switcher at the bottom of the login of my previous install on this machine, and I got to Cinnamon through there. It's actually working quite spectacularly, in terms of performance on this older machine. I think this is my new go-to for when I don't want the overhead of the KDE system.

Thanks.
Hi:
Can you send an image of the partitions created, 93% is usually when the system stays waiting for the user to put all his data,(name, password, etc), just before installing the Grub Was everything well filled in?

Best regards

I think the lack of root log in credentials was probably due to me not seeing the checkbox to activate the root user. I didn't realize it was optional.

Here's a shot of the disk layout. The target was Part. #8. After the initial problem the next time I let the disk check do its thing, which it did with no problems.

Image

When it hung at 93%, I think I tried it three times, I had already entered all user data. The only button that was live was Close.

But IAC I'm up and running now, off an earlier kde install that I've converted. I find Cinnamon doesn't have all the refinement and fine-tuning of kde, but it's not bad at all, and it is noticeably faster on older hardware.

Thanks.

Tony, sorry, I missed your post last time through. Yes, the scenario was that I discovered that the installer did not have a built-in partitioning segue out to gparted or kparted, so I let the installer be and opened gparted on my own and did the partition work. It involved moving and resizing some existing partitions, so it took some time. That done, I went back to the installer, but found it did not reflect the changes. So I closed and reopened it. When I hit the 93% wall I rebooted and this time let the disk checker run. With its blessing I then tried again, again to no avail. That's the best I can recall how it happened.

At that point I ran boot repair, because I had moved the original mx/kde install I wanted to get back to. But the machine wouldn't boot nonetheless. So I booted to mx23 usb again, ran boot repair from there, and that fixed the problem. I then installed the Cinnamon desktop to it, thinking I probably would end up wiping the entire drive anyway. But upon logging out I noticed for the first time - I don't know if it was always there or whether my Cinnamon install caused it - that I now had a convenient desktop switcher on the log in page. This was a very convenient way to test various desktops and see which ones agreed with the hardware! Cinnamon took the prize, and I'm delighted to have made the discovery. So much so, that I probably will upgrade to an SSD and keep this puppy around. It also will be my go-to solution for older hardware.

Hi @paul1149
From what you say, 1º, the UEFI partition is somewhat small and it is possible that when starting the LiveUSB you did not choose the UEFI boot, but you chose “Legacy” and that's why you could not install the Grub on the EFI/“ESP” partition.
2º, probably when you moved/resized the partitions, the file system was not well recovered and that is why the installation did not finish well.
3º, If you had installed Cinnamon in a new and formatted partition it would not keep KDE, I think that the 2nd time you installed Cinnamon in the same partition that you had KDE without formatting and that's why you get in LinghtDM the two options, being in Cinnamon. you can check it by looking in the hidden folders of your /home/.config if there are KDE folders or in /etc, you were lucky not to delete everything ;-).
Doesn't Grub at startup show you two different MX installations?

Best regards

(I'm definitely not getting email notifications here. Glad I checked back again.)

Hi Senpai,

I can't be sure, but I thought I created a new partition #8 for the Cinnamon install after I resized and moved the previous one (the original MX23/kde install). But IAC the disk check gave it an ok?

The 2nd Cinnamon install was not an OS install, it was the desktop package on top of the existing KDE install. I think that explains the many kde elements I have there under ~/.config.

At boot up Grub shows only two entries, both for MX23, "wildflower" I think it's called, at least that's the background. One is the standard entry, the other is Advanced Options, which is selected in order to fire the systemd option.

Ok, so you don't have Cinnamon 6.4.8 which is the version of my respin, you will have the Debian version which is 5.6.1, right?

I'm looking at 5.6.8 here. Kernel is 6.1.0-13. MX23.5 (and it's Libretto, not Wildflower as I had thought).

(and I am getting notifications here now, it was an overactive spam filter here).

Hey Senpai, I installed your respin to my trusty old guinea pig which is an HP 8460p laptop...oldie but still going strong for a 15 year old machine! It installed flawlessly and I liked the dark theme and the wallpaper. Think I am gonna use this on my big Ryzen 7 mega-machine.

I'm glad, check that it is the ISO uploaded on March 12, if it is an earlier ISO remember to place the file “mx-mint-pinning” in the path “/etc/apt/preferences.d”, which you can download from the same site as the ISO, or here in this thread a few posts above.

It is to avoid that Mint overwrites some MX-Linux configurations that is my base, nothing had happened in months, but last week Mint released two files that changed the Grub, plymouth and system name to what brings Mint LMDE, nothing important, and then I realized that I had forgotten to add that file happens that does not happen, what it does is to prioritize the versions and packages of MX-Linux over those of Mint/Debian.

Thanks for your respin. I use mx linux in our schools computors. But my lenovo with radeon graphics has issues with it. I thought I might find this would solve this since mint has no issues. It is a problem with the radeon driver that miint has but mx does not. Since this has mint lmde would it be possible to get the driver to install? I never could figure out how to install the drivers in MX it is from ubuntu's distro Any ideas?

Hi:
Knowing the exact model of Lenovo and your graphics chit would help, run QSI (Quick System Information) and paste in the forum as the program tells you....

I don't have Radeon graphics, and with my Nvidia I only use the free ones that come with the system, in this respin is added the Mint LMDE repository, so you should be able to install the driver for your graphics, first find out which one it is....
I guess from an ISO of Mint LMDE you can find out, also on the website of Lenovo can tell you which driver is, if necessary install the AMD proprietary drivers if you do not work the free

Greetings

I am trying your new release out as I saw you have mint ldme repos. I care for all the school linux computers (mostly chromebooks EOL) and run MX linux fine and dandy except my personal computer. I have an AMD gnu radeon card. Its 11 years old. Is it possible to get the drivers from mint linux to run in your spin? I'm a linux advocate but not a guru. All my issues I gratefully depend on the community.

I have a lancer motherboard it is running mesa intel graphics 4400 it says it is running the radeon driver. All the other info I get from running hardinfo is for most folks greek (But I actually can read greek but not this dialect) The readout I cant figure out how to copypaste here as its a very long read out and quite pretty html!

When I boot up it says I am missing amdgnu driver. But both synaptic and hardinfo seem to be saying i have it. So I ithink it may be too new of a driver to supppot my old faithful com. If I run Mint linux it is fixed no problem. I am not against Mint and it is my second go to linux. But Id like to stay in MX as I can build an iso and then update all our computers easily

Or is it ok to run MX despite it says missing driver? I dont have any issues that rise up doing this other than I am concerned am I doing something not good to do

Can you give advice to guru wannabe?

I just saw you responded to my question so sorry a long letter retelling my issue.
QSI does not work when I use run command. That is why I used hardinfo I had to open the report in an editor to get more info

Display Adapter AMD/ATI Sun LE + Intel Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics
OpenGL Renderer Mesa Intel(R) HD Graphics 4400 (HSW GT2)

I think this is the info you might be looking for. I am at the moment in freja as it uses liquerix kernal. Wanted to see if maybe that solved anything. IT solved 3 complaints about drivers out of 6 complaints. But I do not understand linux enough to guess why. This is MX Linux 6.12.15-1-liquorix-amd64 (x86_64)
Your spin is on a flash driver made by MXlinux iso to usb program.

It is difficult for us to help without information, it seems that your computer has two cards, the integrated Intel, and the AMD, both should work fine with MX-23.5.
This respin has the Mint LMDE “Faye” repositories to get “Cinnamon 6.x.x” but in the other default packages the MX-Linux ones are prioritized for system stability.
You say a liquurix kernel on Freja? is it Faye? MX also has liquorix kernels for you to try, look at “Popular Applications” in the MX installer, and try the one that works best for you, but if your PC is 11 years old it should work with Debian kernel 6.1.x.x, which comes by default with both MX-Linux and Mint LMDE...

I don't understand very well the problem you have, does the graphic system work for you, or are they “warnings” that you get at startup...

The problem of your particular PC I do not think it has nothing to do with the PCs in your classroom in which you have MX, from one of them you can create an ISP with MX-Snapshot and it will serve for all others, you just have to be clear how you want to create it, you have to read about it in the MX manual.

Hi friends:
I have upgraded my MX-Cinnamon respin (Cinnamon 6.4.8 from LMDE) to MX-Linux version 23.6, the 32-bit version has kernel 6.1.0-34, the 64-bit version keeps that same kernel 6.1. 0-34, but as it has the AHS repositories enabled, from “Popular Applications->kernels” you can install the “AHS Liquorix” kernel you want, and if you want it to be updated to the latest “Liquorix” version as they come out, you have to install the “Liquorix 64 bit (ahs updates package)” package.

Mi sitio de descarga: https://sourceforge.net/projects/senpai ... -cinnamon/

Hi friends:
I have updated my MX-Cinnamon-23.6 respin, with some changes....

The installation ISO is now “LMK”(Live Multi Kernel), in the ISO menu you can choose the kernel to boot, between the default Debian 6.1 kernel or an “AHS” kernel from the MX-Linux repository, in this case the 6.12, by default it boots in the more advanced one, but for older computers where these kernels do not bring appreciable improvements, you can boot with the 6.1, I made a small tutorial in my Blog to explain the steps.

Here in English: https://sourceforge.net/p/senpai-respin ... l-kernels/

Here in Spanish: https://sourceforge.net/p/senpai-respin ... le-kernel/

Once installed the system has two kernels, with the tool “mx-boot-options” you can choose which one to boot with, and if you don't want to keep the two kernels, with “mx-cleanup” you can remove the one you don't want...

My download site: https://sourceforge.net/projects/senpai ... -cinnamon/

Observations: With Balena Echer and Rufus work fine including the kernel change, and of course the MX-Linux tool “MX-Live-USB-Maker”, with Ventoy the installation works fine if you use the default boot kernel, but the kernel change gives error and does not boot, but that's a problem of Ventoy, which does not cover that need....

Regards

Installed , removed unwanted packages, installed wanted packages, got rid of one kernel
Then cleaned with apt autoremove --purge and all is 100% clean and running
Thank you
The idea of supplying a kernel for old computers was good

My next try, on my 18 year old <girlfriend>, will be only next week.Sorry.
