#51 Post by Eadwine Rose »

TVTime update!

I got it working, in two ways.

One way was installing these two:
linux-image-4.19.25-antix.1-amd64-smp
linux-headers-4.19.25-antix.1-amd64-smp

On that kernel alsa has no issue, nvidia 418.74 installed on it just fine.

AND thanks to AK-47 there is an even easier solution:

Go into /etc/pulse/daemon.conf

and adjust the lines of default-fragments and default-fragment-size-msec to be:

Code: Select all

default-fragments = 5
default-fragment-size-msec = 2
And for goodness sake LOSE that semi-colon. 9_9  Had I seen that before I might have sorted it out back in beta2.1 even!

I now have a working tvtime install, and nvidia to boot on this:

Code: Select all

I installed xinput_calibrator through MX Package Installer so I could calibrate the touchscreen in my CF-29. Installed with no problems. To calibrate, I run this in terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo xinput_calibrator --output-type xorg.conf.d --output-filename /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-calibration.conf
The program fires up okay. I start to touch the screen at the crosshairs, starting at the top left, then top right, next bottom left, all good. As I touch the last crosshair at the bottom right, the screen locks up and the only thing that works is the cursor. I have to press ctrl+alt+backspace to get out. When I log back in the touchscreen calibration is spot on. Happens when running live and as well as when installed to hdd.

Can a fix for the freeze up be found? I don't know if it is an xinput_calibrator issue or MX-19b3 issue. I do know that I have never had that issue with the program in any distro I have installed it on previously.

Other issue is that Conky blinks/flashes, but not regularly. I believe it is due to the proc being pegged at 100% when busy as that seems to be the only times Conky blinks/flashes. Thought I would at least mention it.

Thanks for all the work that has gone into getting MX-19 to this point. Looking very good.

EDIT
I don't know if it make any difference to the problem with the calibrator but I forgot to mention that I add 2 lines to the end of the 99-calibration.conf file.

Code: Select all

Option "EmulateThirdButton" "1"
Option "EmulateThirdButtonMoveThreshold" "50"
This is the 99-calibration.conf file.

Code: Select all

Section "InputClass"
	Identifier	"calibration"
	MatchProduct	"LBPS/2 Fujitsu Lifebook TouchScreen"
	Option	"Calibration"	"367 3897 375 3841"
	Option	"SwapAxes"	"0"
	Option "EmulateThirdButton" "1"
	Option "EmulateThirdButtonMoveThreshold" "50"
EndSection
Also, I have to do ctlr+alt+backspace to get out of the screensaver when it runs. Usually I turn it off.

A weird one this. I've been having a problem which was not present in MX18, that my USB remote controls URC6440 and OARUSB04G (essentially the same unit) were no longer automounted under MX19. But this is also true in many distros, and I think it's due to its nonstandard (to say the least) partitioning. In the end, I believe it's not a bug, just the system not welcoming access by a nonstandard item. Anyway I came up with a way of getting it to mount automatically in MX19ß3, and it also works in PCLinuxOS.

The issue is that, although it is mounted under ownership of the user, in MX19 (but not in PCLOS) it demands the root password when I attempt to unmount it for the first time in a session.

The code I used to get it to automount in the first place is described here: http://www.hifi-remote.com/wiki/index.p ... with_Linux
My user name and group name are davemx, uid and gid are 1000, so the mount command, with variables translated, is essentially:

Code: Select all

mount -t vfat /dev/disk/by-id/usb-UEI_Remotes_UEI_Mass_Storage_000000000001-0:0-part1 \
/media/davemx/REMOTE/ -o uid=1000,gid=1000,utf8,dmask=027,fmask=137
I'm at a loss as to why the root password is demanded to unmount it, when the current user owns the mount, its mount point and its files. Is it a bug?

Are you really going to break binary compatibility between beta and final? How is that even possible without breaking compatibility with Debian? I don't use any of the MX tools or default desktop.

Heavens no. Binary compatibility won't change, but there may be configuration changes that are not packaged as applications so those won't update through apt. The beta will keep running but it won't be the same as the final. Fixes made during beta testing to areas you don't often use may show up as problems for you later on if you keep updating the beta instead of installing the Final.

When there is no sound, can you grab the slider of the volume icon and slide it down and up, then try playing sound again?

I tried increasing the volume with the built-in keyboard volume controls, Fn+F6. I did not try grabbing the slider with the cursor.
I will try that in a bit and report back. ATM I am testing MX-19b3_x64 on my CF-D1.

Hopefully you will have luck with that. For me the silly thing gets muted and that fixes it.

I ran the beta 3 .iso from USB stick and about the only thing I noticed was some weird graphics artifacts or something between some of the panel icons in the notification area. If I moved the panel and moved it back or logout/login they were gone.
