That may have been on 64-bit, I know the 32-bit Skype may have problems on upstream 64-bit Debian, if it depends on ia32-libs, which is gone upstream.Jerry3904 wrote:There is a post on the Xfce forum asking why Skype can't be run on Xfce, so I thought I would report that direct download of 4.2.0 from the Skype site installs and runs beautifully in MX-14 on my AAO 722.
I installed from my persistent USB onto my original 2008 Acer A150 netbook over M11, saving home, and it went very well. I just had to delete my custom .asoundrc file, otherwise all my changes and new programs carried over from the USB install persistence. So very cool...
You know, I see lots of beginners on the Debian forums breaking their install adding Ubuntu PPAs to try and get netflix-desktop working. For those outside the US, Netflix is a streaming video service that takes up to 33% of Internet bandwidth during peak evening hours (Youtube about 20%), and uses MS Silverlight. I see a lot of quotes from Linux users that the only reason they keep Windows on their machines is to use Netflix...and our netflix-desktop and wine combo seem to work perfectly out of the box so far, so maybe we should push this as a feature.
The netflix-desktop build also provides for some similar services in other markets, these are Katsomo, Lovefilm, Maxdome, Redbox, and Sumo-TV2.
