MX Linux does not boot with systemd by default but there should be an entry to do so in the "Advanced Options" GRUB sub-menu. If you want to run with systemd permanently then install the systemd-sysv package but note that the developers can only provide support for sysvinit. I can help with systemd though, if you get stuck.
