BTW - how do I restore "MX Updater"? I accidentally corrupted it by removing YAD as part of icon browser, but I can't reinstall it from MX Package installer.
Install/reinstall the apt-notifier package.

You might also need to reinstall yad - apt-get install yad or use synaptic.
Installed yad, now I get error msg - Failed to execute command "/usr/bin/apt-notifier-unhide-Icon" Failed to execute child process "/usr/bin/apt-notifier-unhide-Icon" (no such file or directory)

Bingo! Thank you so much!

I'm really sorry to be blunt, but how do I uninstall Icon Browser (yad-icon-browser)?

you can't really, its part of yad which is needed by several applications.
you can hide it from the menu though (use the menu-editor)

You can't, it's part of the yad package, and you found already that if you remove yad that the apt-notifier (MX Updater) also gets removed.

Couple f minor bugs:
1) When I click on Restart (and confirm) it briefly shows the login window then completes shutdown/restart
2) Once system restarts and re-establishes wifi connection - the notification msg has a barely visible, empty text box below the notification text "You're now connected to XYZ" ..

Can we please have the option of installing only those applications that we need/want during installation? I.e. give the users a list with "optional" software with tick boxes - how hard is that?
If you think it's easy then
be my guest! Once you have it all figured out, feel free to submit a patch.
bpr323 wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2019 7:41 amI'm sick and tired of manually weeding out stuff the "manyroads" style (uninstall/purge), this is really annoying :(
I see where you're coming from, although where should the line be drawn?
bpr323 wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2019 7:41 amI simply don't get the mentality that to attract more users to Linux the amazingly good MX distro needs to offer everything "out of the box"
I trust that you have a better solution ready for MX to stand out from the competition?

1. That is a result of using sysvinit instead of systemD with Debian 10 as I understand it. If you were to login to systemD form the MX Boot menu you would not see that.
2. Change the Theme style. Settings>Appearance.
