Did you take the photographs of the flowers yourself, Auro?

And I like the way you placed the smaller word+logo graphic at the bottom right corner of the giant translucent logo in the pic below.

Yes, That photo taken by me and its in raw format, edited on Rawtherapee, Then imported into gimp, Made a duplicate copy of layer and in duplicate layer little desaturation and blurring added, then masked with MX logo and that’s all.

I really like the last 1 posted above, because the zoomed-in closeup is so different from your other pics so far. Nice rich colour as well.

I have to admit I don't really like these 2:

The concentric circles surrounding the logo clash with the flower backgrounds, and visually the effect is painful to the eyes, at least in my opinion.

I really prefer a clean presentation of the logo if it's overlaid on top of the flower background.

Are you mainly focused on flower photography?

Oh my. The vector ones are just brilliant. Very clever use of the logo. LOOOVE it.

For the Inkscape one with the heart, I think the graphic in the centre (heart, logo, ECG) could be bigger.

Here I thought to make wallpaper less distraction. So made that heart small, My motive for the design is that MX makes your computer and You both Live again. But it should not distract the simplicity of MX. So I dwaw it small, If you want I can Enhance it, enlarge that.

By the way, I was trying out one of your pics as the background for the login screen in one of my virtual machines, but the right circle was just a littlw too small/short for the length of the text fields.

Really i am designing that one keeping MX Letters in mind, and the right circle was designed to show x.
I may share the svg file, and its better that you modify it as per your settings and likings.

Please give me some time as i am away from my computer in which the svg file is,

The problem with that is I have no idea how to work with svg files.

Your mentioned circle may be in layer 2, lock other two layers and unlock layer 2 and modify as per your need.

The carvings/reliefs in your pics remind me of the stuff at Angkor Wat, although the latter was more elaborate, being more recent in history. But there is some commonality in their Hindu heritage I guess.

Yah, Angkor Wat is a Vishnu temple and Bali and Sumatra islands are influential by then Kalinga now Odisha by sailors who spread Hindu and Budhism there. Even today the people of odisha celebrate there ancestors sailing skill in Bali Yatra a festival dedicated to sailors who go to far lands.
The Caves are 1-2 BC period and these are Jain carvings and more better Kalinga work can be seen in Konark Temple only entrance gate remains and other are devastated by attackers.
Kalinga/ modern odisha is the place where Ashok took Buddhism and Its really a treasure of nature.

Is Inkscape the only graphics program that can be used, since it's a SVG file?

I've not used it, but then I've hardly used others as well.

You may do that but inkscape is really very easy and layer is only a onion skin concept.
the circle you wanting to enlarge or change is on layer 2. Layer has 2 button aside, one is an eye which make layer visibility on or off and 2nd is lock which locks the content not for further editing and if the layer 2 i have send is locked first unlock it and click on the circle element as its highlighted it will show handles and for very basic concept there is a help page which are svg files in the inkscape last menu button.
after you finish click on export button in file menu and select canvas area as png file and path where you want to store it

may i try to upload one file by editing it later

Thanks and you dont need a yahoo account, simply download largest resolution and open it in gimp which is preinstalled in MX, Select crop tool and select area you want and click on export as, and in file extention manually enter .jpg if you want it in JPEG format or .png if in PNG format.
For making file small, please go to image tab and select size and enter your desired resolution and aspect ratio.
Anther method for image distribution is installing a plug in called save for web, available in repository, and it will drastically make image size smaller for use in awebsite or mail or in a document,

I tried using Inkscape for the first time and got a more stretched (ie, longer) oval shape than yours, but couldn't make the curved "C" bracket on the left of the oval follow its shape properly. I'll post my first attempt here later tonight.

First Congrats for your 1st try on inkscape. Once you start using, you will find how easy and logical the software is.
For 1st time user i recommend to go in Help tab and click tutorials, They are really a good point to start.

However, by curved "C", I mean the light brown outline to the immediate left of the oval shape. See red arrow in the pic below. It's part of the same layer as the oval. I clicked on the "C" and tried to stretch, tweak and pull it, but just couldn't get it to follow exactly the curvature of the oval. Would appreciate some guidance on this.

Also, my intention is to completely replace the brown oval with a capsule shape, if possible. But if not, I can make do with the oval if the curved C issue can be solved. This is after all for my own use. :-)

Lets duplicate the right circle (Ctl +D), Then select create circle, ellipse tool in left toolbar (F5). You will see two buttons bellow top menubar, one swich to segment and other swich to arc may be deactivate stage, But in your circle you find 3 dots, and by dragging them you convert them to a segment or arch type.Then Select both shapes by Dragging mouse on both or shift click on each element, now click on path, object to path and now both elements are path now, and selecting both click on division and it will devide the paths and you get two elements, one will be that arch needed and delete the other one

Thanks for those detailed instructions! I'll need to have my working file opened in Inkscape to be able to understand your step by step help. Since I will only get home late tonight, I may only be able to try it out in the next few days.

As for the proposed capsule shape, now that I have seen how it looks against the larger circle on the left with the logo, I think the oval shape looks better. Let me try adjusting the "C" with your instructions and if it works out, I think I will stick with the oval. For now, please do not spend any of your time on the rounded rectangle.

Sorry for my delay in response as i am little busy with my professional and bread earning things..

If talking about inspiration its Concept of GNU and love for GNU?Linux that inspires. I am no computer person and i cant help in any way writing code or programmes or even i dont like, rather fear command line things. From 1999 I am on xp, later vista then Window7, 8,10 and in 2012 i got interested i alternative os to windows in which malware and virus attack have killed me and my data.
Started with Ubuntu and later got interested in Ubuntu Studio(I am a cinematographer and occasionally shoots video too and photography is tool for cinematography; although industry lives in Mac and adobe; i tried GNU to see if it can help), later in ubuntu studio its base based on Ubuntu gives me many problems like update and broken system, so i thought to try debian and as i said i am very very basic user ..debian proved not for me, so i came to MX finding many reviews in dedoimedo's review page. And MX proved. It require less system resources, it is user friendly, all things a user require are preconfigured like conky, system information, mx tools, backup......and many more for which i dont require to use command line and go for community to ask, although i ask many times how to do it, and find good and to the point answers in MX forum.
I installed GIMP full, Inkscape, Raw therapee, Darktable, Kdenlive and i got almost Ubuntu studio.
(A hidden wish that if mx support and propose a KDE distro it will be more useful for multimedia work, as kde is now takes same ram and little cpu than xfce and quite stable, which i use on my laptop as Kubuntu. I find Kde is more useful for multimedia works as Dolphin and Gwenview are best things it offer and kdenlive works better in KDE)

So Last words...I am trying to give back as with my little knowledge and capability to that OS which saves me, which runs me, which works for me.
Although its quite impossible as per todays scenario to convince my Administration and crew and media house to use GNU/linux for movie and Production, bit i show them many times what GIMP can do as par Photoshop; what Inkscape can do as par Illustrator or coreldraw..

One of our developers Adrian has prepared an early test of an unofficial respin using KDE. Hopefully soon the iso will be made available to forum members for further testing. If you are interested you could help test it in due course.

where can i get the ISO for testing? any link please.

Really KDE support some applications better like Dolphin(Which is best file manger and supports preview for all files including image, raw and video too), Gwenview best photo manager and viewer, supports raw and preview generate are smooth and less time taking having little editing capability within, Kdenlive..
although i don’t like some kde applications but kde proves better in linux desktops for image and video work.
Now a days KDE 12.06 in kubuntu with minimal install takes 400 mb ram and 1% cpu and very stable (not crashed once from april till date)

Although i can install kde from software in MX, but it requires some work and knowledge and i want A kde as par with MX Xfce stability, tools and Trust.

Beautiful wallpapers Auro and thank you for your contributions to the community. Ribbon1 in particular exudes fluidity and elegance because the ribbon flows as one. I personally prefer dark grays (softer on the eyes) with no words.....the ribbon says it all. Kudos!

If you use MX Boot Options to enable splash, then you will find the background called "elegant" which is your wallpaper. BTW: as with all such borrowings, there is a file in the folder

/usr/share/plymouth/themes/elegant/

called "Source" which names you and gives the image's original location.

OK, as Jerry said, you need to open MX Tools, click on Boot Options, and choose to enable splash. The tool will install plymouth and some themes for you, after which you can choose "elegant" theme from the dropdown menu and click "apply". The grub settings will be updated.

The next time you boot into MX17, you will see the following startup graphic with progress bar, instead of the lines of text scrolling up the screen:

I have been on a vacation with my family during Diwali Festive season to Palampur, Dharmashala, Dalhousie, Mcleodgang at Himachalpradesh, India.
Its quite scenic but after the devastating flood, the Himalaya State is recovering.
Although i have not taken my full equipment as its a vacation with family, the photographs are not that great what i get to see through my eyes.

I just thought a simple but literal WALLpaper design might be something some users might like.

But I only came up with part of the concept. I just wanted a linen textured background in dark rich green, with tiny MX logos faintly embossed into the background. I was thinking of some old-timer European building with dark wallpaper with a repeating pattern.

But when I explained my idea to Auro, he was the one who came up with the idea of having the tiny logos make up a giant version of the logo.

Took my brain some time to pick out the 3d MX logo in the foreground of those 2 pics. I'm wondering if there is some way to make the 3d logo stand out a little more....

Speaking of 3d, I still love your pyramid-style logo on page 12 of this thread with the shadows and shading:

Just edited the post and uploaded an image below said 400x400 resolution.

You probably have noticed its the same pattern we have designed on a greyish green background that I have modified a little with colours and abstract shapes. Hope you find its OK and usable.

Maybe offtop, btw, I kinda like the default wallpapers in Bunsenlabs - both BL-beam-grey.png & BL-beam.png, both the nice plain enough colors and design and a modest small logo (and it's color) the way they positioned it there.

Especially this grey paper matches our default panels color damn well, beam one not bad too. Do we have something similar? Sure our default blue or elegant types are super too, just either the panel stands out a lot (blue) and the logo is huge for my taste (elegant types).

So far my fav wallpaper was/ is the one in 17.2? (Grey with yellow diagonal stripe)

I'm building on adelie's suggestion at viewtopic.php?p=486919#p486919 - showing examples from bunsenlabs - to have monochrome-like gradiented designs with just a simple MX logo.

This is my all-time favourite crunchbang linux wallpaper:

It's a 3D representation of the "#!" logo, done in shades of grey, resting on its "back" on an architect's building plan.

You've previously shown me a early test of a 3D slab-like logo for MX (not the 3D pyramid one). It'll be nice to have some backgrounds with a 3D MX logo. Like the #! wallpaper, the 3D logo can be presented in interesting ways even if the background is kept simple.

But this is just one idea; I'm sure others have more.

Much nicer, Auro! Only thing though is that I think the Title and version text ("MX Linux", "18.01") should be in a font that can be displayed at the same view angle as the rest of the picture. The handwritten text is aligned at the same angle as the box, but the title and version text are not, so the whole thing looks a little off. If you can't find a font set that can be slanted at the correct angle, I think handwritten print block letters would work as well.

Clever idea.

Sorry I didn't reply until now. I don't use MX Clocky (prefer conky) so don't know much about it. I'm guessing that it may store picture files of their clock face themes in some /usr/share subfolder, so you might be able to edit the clock face file?

Who ever made this clock they did a great job never know it was their..
The clock below is the station clock, all i did was dumped the svg files that I did not want into folder and rerun the clock. Maybe this may help you in some way. ?

Do you mean the default clock in the panel? If so, the non-transparent background is a bug in that version of Orage. The panel app named Clock has a transparent background though.

No, I mean there is a applet(?) or application in mx called mx clock, which shows up like conky, but here only a clock with some information or clock only with different themes.
My idea is to put clock in that wallpaper where there is a black circle kept empty for that.

I can put the clock but its having a black background. I tried different themes available but none support transparency like preview shows.(You can see the attachment in my previous post viewtopic.php?f=129&t=44427&p=490157#p489883)

There are some ideas given in a Previous tread by KoO, which i will try.

My idea is, It will be nice to have a wallpaper with live clock running as apart of wallpaper along with conky.

If you can find a answer please provide,

Oh, you mean MX Clocky. You can try some of the included Clocky themes. Asrod is somewhat transparent. So is Compass. Several others only show the clock face rather than the black semi-rectangular background of the default theme, even though they're opaque.

Edit: I re-read your post and saw that you already tried the themes. I just looked at Asrod in /usr/share/clocky/skins/Asrod/ to see how it does transparency and clock-face.svg is just an image with a transparent background, so it seems that the app does transparency at the graphic level rather than it being a function of the app's configuration or code. I don't know if there's a way to make the Clocky app itself compositor-aware, which is probably what you're asking for. I'll shut up now.

Hi,
MX and Community

Due to recent cyclone "Feni" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclone_Fani / https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/ne ... 286141.cms at Odisha, in India i got a lot of damage to my desktop Computer and lost many things in my harddrive, although many important things are backed up but the backup hard disk also got damaged. I lost many photographs and i have no communication as power/ electricity is unavailable for 10-12 days as supply chain got damaged. Some projects and photos i have in my laptop which are safe and i managed to upload them as internet got available and my personal damages to home is recovering.

Those are very nice--and some of the new (at least to me) ones on your flickr collection I find stunning! I'm going to have to start doing what asqwerth does--rotating wallpapers automatically.

I like the mountain grass ones too. Tell me, did you take the photos using a prime lens up close or a telephoto lens from a distance?

The mountain grass purple and dark variants go very well with the MX desktop and conky on the right. Nice!

This one is on my old nikon d3200 with 70 - 300 f/5.6 - 6.8 lens And this one on 70 mmm. For getting low for I use 70 as I can use 5.6. Colour correction and little tint effect added on gimp 2.8

Really idea is I can use a dark in login and after logged in the lighter one appears. Like the mix 17, where from B&W, login screen the colour desktop appears.
