So, suggest, calm down and yes, please help MX and antiX to provide translations for Brazilian Portugues.
Thanks
@fehlix, out of respect for you personally and the conversations we've had here on the MX Linux forum, I've returned to respond.

You're absolutely right, because we work voluntarily to benefit MX Linux, which in turn benefits hundreds of thousands of people around the world.

I'll speak to siamhie to stay out of adjusting native speaker translations. He might wanted to help, which seems didn't go well.
What happened in this topic had happened before in the topic viewtopic.php?t=85517&start=10 that @Jerry3904 blocked.

That's why I brought to this topic what I explained here posting.php?mode=quote&p=828533.

This is how I strategically use each of the entries in the ".desktop" file, namely "Name[pt_BR]=", "GenericName[pt_BR]=", "Comment[pt_BR]=", and "Keywords[pt_BR]=" to provide as much information as possible about the respective program to the potential 230+ million Brazilians living here in Brazil and other countries who may eventually use MX Linux on their Brazilian Portuguese-language computers.

The "Name[pt_BR]=" entry must contain some information in Brazilian Portuguese (what the respective program is and what it's for), in addition to the original name of the program, which may or may not be mentioned, depending on the situation.

The "GenericName[pt_BR]=" entry must contain some words that are synonyms for the words used in the "Name[pt_BR]=" entry. When the original program name was not included in the "Name[pt_BR]=" entry, it will certainly be included in the "GenericName[pt_BR]=" entry and/or in the "Comment[pt_BR]=" entry.

The "Comment[pt_BR]=" entry must contain the original program name, the acronyms that represent the program name (when the acronym exists), an explanation of the meaning of the acronyms in Brazilian Portuguese, as well as other words that are synonyms for the words used in the "Name[pt_BR]=" and "GenericName[pt_BR]=" entries. And finally, an explanation of what the respective program is and what it is used for.

The "Keywords[pt_BR]=" entry must contain as many words as possible that a Brazilian could type into a launcher to easily find the program with any of the thousands of words we have in Brazilian Portuguese.

But, since the MX Linux forum administrators weren't interested in what I pointed out viewtopic.php?t=85517, viewtopic.php?t=85517&start=10 and posting.php?mode=quote&p=828533. On the contrary, @Jerry3904 preferred to lock the topic rather than understand the importance of ".desktop" files in communicating with end users. The topic was about how MX Linux ".desktop" files are being poorly designed due to the space limitations of the "Application Finder" or "App Finder" program.

If I can't do my best in producing the texts I create from what I read in automatic translations from Google, DeepL, Leo, etc. for use in MX Linux, then I think I've been dedicating my time to the wrong community since August 2020. That's right, I've been a volunteer translator for over five years for antiX and MX.

However, on the antiX forum, I'm at least respected by anticapitalista, Dave, Robin, PPC, Xecure, and so many other people who understand why I need to produce texts that a 5-year-old or an elderly person over 60 can read and understand what the program does and what it's for without having to search the internet.

I couldn't do my best with the ".desktop" files for "Calendar," as you can see in this thread viewtopic.php?t=85517.

If you're going to produce poorly written and incomprehensible translations for the Brazilian people, due to space limitations or the limitations of a specific program, then don't count on me to write poorly written texts for MX Linux.

There are many people dedicating their time and effort to making the best operating system possible, and I cannot be forced to produce poorly written and incomprehensible translations for Brazilians.

My email address (marcelocripe at gmail dot com) is public, and it's available on my website marcelocripe.eu5.org, in the various translation files I've created over the past five years. Anyone who wants to talk to me can do so at any time.

As I wrote before:

"Words have power. Well-placed words can serve to teach, clarify, promote, disseminate, and uplift. Meanwhile, poorly placed words can serve to misinform, omit, denigrate, and depreciate. Therefore, use your words for the good of MX Linux, which will be for the good of its users. Words also have the power to start a war or create peace."

As you already know, the English text I'm sending is a machine translation. If it is mistranslated or misunderstood, my original text in Brazilian Portuguese will serve to resolve any misunderstanding that may occur in the automatic translation.

@Eadwine Rose, thank you for your explanation on how to cite a person's name here on the MX forum. It's not done this way on the antiX forum. It's difficult for me to use this feature because names need to be typed instead of copying and pasting, which is much easier.

So, suggest, calm down and yes, please help MX and antiX to provide translations for Brazilian Portugues.
Thanks
@fehlix, em respeito a sua pessoa e em respeito as conversas que tivemos aqui no fórum do MX Linux eu retornei para responder.

Você tem toda razão, porque trabalhamos voluntariamente em beneficio do MX Linux, que por sua vez beneficia centenas de milhares de pessoas no mundo todo.

I'll speak to siamhie to stay out of adjusting native speaker translations. He might wanted to help, which seems didn't go well.

"As palavras possuem poder.

@marcelocripe, in order to tag someone, type the @ key, start typing the username, and then click on the popup. That will change the color of the name and turn it into a mention.
@Eadwine Rose, eu agradeço por sua explicação em como citar um nome de uma pessoa aqui no fórum do MX. No fórum do antiX não é desta maneira. Para mim é difícil utilizar esta funcionalidade porque os nomes precisam ser digitados ao invés de copiar e colar que é algo muito mais fácil de fazer.

As I told Eadwine, I don't run that web site, so that's up to them to do what they want. As far as the "C" word goes, I hate it.
When I watch British programming, it's not so bad probably because of the way it's used. Not in a derogatory way.

@marcelocripe
I'll explain once more what is asked to do for the desktop file that is for MX fluxbox.
Take these two sections and translate into the various other languages.

Code: Select all

Name=Appfinder Settings

Comment=Configuration options
Don't add or remove entries.
Don't change the entries name or comment.

............

Explicarei mais uma vez o que é solicitado a fazer pelo arquivo de desktop que é para o MX FluxBox.
Pegue essas duas seções e traduza para os vários outros idiomas.

Code: Select all

Name=Appfinder Settings

Comment=Configuration options
Não adicione ou remova entradas.
Não altere o nome ou comentar as entradas.
This is my Fluxbox . There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My Fluxbox is my best friend. It is my life.

@marcelocripe You're welcome.
If it is mistranslated or misunderstood, my original text in Brazilian Portuguese will serve to resolve any misunderstanding that may occur in the automatic translation.
Thing is.. nobody here knows Brazilian Portuguese, so.. nobody can use it.

@siamhie You don't run the site.. I get it.

I copied the about-mx-linux.desktop to my Downloads folder and edited it so that I knew which language to look up in Google Translate.
This is what that desktop file has. (I have since removed nl_BE from my translation template and show just nl instead).

So this I see

Name[nl_BE]=Over MX Linux

has become

Name[nl]=Over MX Linux

For instance. It will change on the others as well I wager?

That works :)

I didn't edit the file /usr/share/applications/about-mx-linux.desktop. I merely copied it to Downloads and edited it to look like this. That way I know which language to use in Google.

For instance, in the UK, you can call someone a c*nt and they would be fine with it, whereas if applied to the US, it's offensive.
This is so wrong. That word is always offensive in the UK.
