Re: 16 Things to do after installing MX
3. Fire up synaptic and load about 30 programs (adds to maybe 240 packages with all dependencies) Such as audacity, k3b, ksnip, bleachbit, ripperx, handbrake, scid, stockfish, eboard, espeak....I really should automate this with aptik !
4. Run synaptic to get all updates [was only 7 packages]
Probably not that important, but it is my understanding, that generally best practice is, to always install programs after your system is fully updated. Just to be on a safe side. So I would switch the order of the two above and maybe add, after install of all packages, to run update one more time.

Good afternoon,
converted a USB-Stick with the latest ventoy. Checked integrity of the iso on the stick.
booted the laptop that had sound card issues ever since.

Happy news: sound works, but very very faint.
Sad news:
- Wifi adapter doesn't work - MX21 was one of the very few distros were this worked right out of box
- Microphone doesn't seem to work, says headset unplugged.
- can't run update, some files seem to be blocked.

attached a sysinfo zip with some of the logs, hope they show what happened.

QSI for the forum, cause it looks nice:

I followed @dolphin_oracle 's youtube video in that I created a root and home subvolume in the BTRFS partition. In my install, I clicked "new layout", then "reset layout", then checked everything (swap, hibernate, standard snapshot), then I added a "/' and "home" subvolume to the BTRFS partition, which is also my only partition (I didn't create an EFI and swap partition).

Issues:

Timeshift fails to create any BTRFS snapshots.
Works for me, when booted in systemd.
MX-installer:
luks+btrfs+subvol:/@ ( root) , /@home /@swap

Screensshot shows terminal with "lsblk -f" to list partitons
and timeshift created snapshot:

Somthing seems missing with "resume=UUID=" needed for resume from hibernation.

a btrfs snapshot will fail if there is an active swapfile. apparently.

64 bit XFCE & KDE boot OK

Can anyone else confirm that 32 bit ISOs of MX-linux boot on Ventoy and this is just my issue?
I cannot confirm the problem, but Ventoy has an update to 1.0.94,
otherwise you could try it with Rufus 4.2

Wasn't accommodating Timeshift+btrfs the reason for switching from /swapfile to /swap/swap? That's what I recall someone (@AK-47?) saying a few days ago. If it still doesn't work - which would be a bug in Timeshift not MX - I'd suggest going back to the default /swapfile. Not an issue for me personally, as I'm fine making the change manually during installation. In fact, most of my systems use a swap partition (more efficient because they're multi-boot). Just seems to me it would be easier for users in general to have what they're likely to see described in articles on the internet. Again, a suggestion, not a bug.

its a "feature" of btrfs snapshots, not really timeshift. the scenario of having an active swapfile on the partition to be snapshoted is just not supported by the btrfs file system tools. You *might* be able to put swap on a subvolume, never tried that.

I also just use a traditional swap partition.

When running syvinit lsblk does not provide FSTYPE, LABEL and UUID, of the luks partitions.
Recent timshift fails b/c it heavily uses lsblk.
So, seems related to Debian "lsblk" or something within the system setup. .

Note: When running timeshift under "SysVInit" within chroot-rescue
from LiveUSB into the system lsblk works and timeshift also under SysVinit.
on a luks-encrypted btrfs-installed system .
