you can attach a file too.

but it looks like sdc is being written too for some reason, and its your live-usb, so that's the fail point. in the custom partitions, make sure nothing on your live usb is shown to be used.

I will play around with the installer tonight to see if there is some issue that has cropped up.
I learned to prevent sdc from being altered. There is an EFI partition on the ISO.
But it did not help.
sda8 is the partition where I tried to install the OS to. Marked it as root, and sda1 is the EFI boot partition which I marked as "preserve".
But nothing helped.
I will now create a new live-usb-stick, maybe with etcher or with gnome-disk and then start the installation again.

That's likely the problem. Most USB creation tools claim to be universal, but in practice none of them are. For best possible results, you can use our own Live USB Maker, Rufus on Windows, or the latest version of Ventoy. In all cases the utility should be configured to use GPT partitioning.

@berlin59 @j2mcgreg because of these posts I think I have determined the problem. There is a bug in the installer that will wipe the ESP partition of the live-usb despite it not being selected (or even present) in the custom partition area.

in berlin59's case, however the stick got written is protecting the ESP partition from being written, but throws a failure that cancels install.

in my case, install went through, but the USB is no longer bootable on UEFI machines.

this one is a major uh-oh, so thanks for the report and logs!

in the meanwhile I created a new live-usb-stick with MX live-usb-maker-qt-19.11.02.x86_64.AppImage
Of course UEFI.
But it failed again.

Problem is solved now:
The cause for my problem is the method used to create the live-usb-stick.
Each app (including the live-usb-maker-qt-19.11.02.x86_64 AppImage from MX) which uses the dd command results in a failure of the live-usb-stick to install the iso.
You must use the MX Live Usb-Maker only . Mode : all functions , writable usb-stick
Only then the RC2 installation works without problems.


So I decided to use english instead of german language and installed according to the tutorial.
But it failed again.

However, I have a SSD, normally sda , and a Harddrive, normally sdb.
This time the live-usb named them different. sda is called sdb and vice versa.
Doesn't matter because I know this behavior from other distros.
The EFI on the SSD matters, it is where the Windows boot-partition is installed and where all the grubs of Endeavour and Debian12 Os are installed.

Somehow the installer is doing something with the wrong EFI-partition on the live-usb-stick. As you said already. From there it goes downhill and fails.

Problem with Obsidian icon theme install, just hangs.

Brand new rc1 vm install, updated to current and using MXPI went to install the Obsidian Icon theme (obsidian-icon-theme all 3.5-1.1 ) main repo.

Install started fine and then hung. Waited 10 min. stuck as below shows. Killed it, tried again, had to

I see one Obsidian icon installed with yellow exclamation, but the Obsidian Sand I run is not there. Tried to install again, same exact thing.

Reinstalled RC1, updated and tried again, same lock up.

However, I have a SSD, normally sda , and a Harddrive, normally sdb.
This time the live-usb named them different. sda is called sdb and vice versa.
Doesn't matter because I know this behavior from other distros.
The EFI on the SSD matters, it is where the Windows boot-partition is installed and where all the grubs of Endeavour and Debian12 Os are installed.

Somehow the installer is doing something with the wrong EFI-partition on the live-usb-stick. As you said already. From there it goes downhill and fails.
definetly a show stopper bug. and I think it would attempt to act on multiple ESP partitions.

so you can go with the --brave switch which will list all partitions in the custom partitions area, not just what the installer thinks is safe. It will likely show all the ESP partitions with the USE FOR already selected to ESP. de-select the ESPs you don't want touched and you should be OK from there.

you can use it, but make sure to select "Preserve" for format or else it will get formated. At least that's what's happening to my live-usb.

Sorry, it doesn't work.
Regardless, if I deselect or select or preserve or whatever.
It fails all the time.

I will wait until RC2 or the final version is released.
