This is MX-21, but it incorporates MX-23 components.
(I put nvidia-470 driver through a lot of trouble,
so it's hard to upgrade. I'm planning to use a partial port of MX-23 components.)
Using Nautilus file manager, but thumbnail image is not available...

I took some liberties with the anti-x conky. It's not perfect. A WIP but it's getting there

regarding your icon colour, i would recommend using leos GSI on your android, if you have one ;)

hello darknetmatrix and everyone
turn to page rc twenty-three.
bookworm23_mxfluxbox turns a new page with fluxbox.

The second image adds a vertical tint2 Taskbar pager. Its job is to show window previews.
It is next to a window list button and a drag and drop workspace pager, cpu hello mem bars. mx dock above. fluxbox toolbar stretches right.

hello darknetmatrix and everyone
mat.jpg is a mate notification theme; i have ukui notification on a mxalphafluxbox it fits the gray theme in use. ifica.jpg is xfce4-notifyd.

Theme, xfceSmoke on mx here after nine years today went new colors, xfceifica.
compis and Melber have shown another place for user theme configuration,
in libnotify. Choose the colors and font of notification.

hello darknetmatrix and everyone
Dock icon border hover color match theme is a good thing,
but rc3 time the dock icon hover color border is made to match the background color of the icon.
mx tools hover border is green.
help is blue.
settings manager hover border is red.

A color variation on mx -darkpanes places icons.

hello darknetmatrix and everyone
Papirus places icon folder colors on mx darkpanes tab and folder.
The previous color change changed the tab color to a musical background color.
image mxusical tab with a brown folder; and pink trash.
image darkpanes-mxblue colors switched, the blue to tab and the brown(dropped shade to 733C09) to color of folder.

This is a work in progress. MX-23_fluxbox_RC3

Since the style menu has been replaced with the theme menu (which is where you now set your themes, icons, styles and cursors from one window) under Appearance,
I needed to be able to access all the styles I've downloaded from tenr.de (over 450+ styles), so I've added the style menu back into my Appearance category.

I've also changed the solid line separator with asterisks using the [nop] variable.

hello darknetmatrix and everyone
scrot --note Option is particular about font path.
I keep a scrot -n script set to some default mx fonts
that are bookworm_en tested local.

The path to ManyRoads conky fonts
is just the kind of font path that works well with scrot --note.
Tested scrot note with the manyroads conky fonts path, the fonts there work with note.
/home/clue/.conky/MX-ManyRoads/fonts/

edit; Another friendly font path for --note, found,
/usr/share/feh/fonts/yudit.ttf/24

So cool headphone! :cool2:
I think want to personally order that new MX few sticker for my headphone...
(My new MX logo design intention was well recognized by you! yes, this is it.)

PS.
If there is no headphone's license problem at "finished image" (if used free license image),
I recommend submit this wallpaper to MX wallpaper section(MX art).

that's how my KDE plasma looks like:

I went for two bars - one works as taskbar/"dock" in the bottom (menu button on the left, so it has a fixed position while the top one delivers status info (memory, CPU, network usage, date/time, diverse status icons).

Finally upgraded my machine and made the move to MX23. A bit of custom theming in GTK an XFWM. I never thought I would go to a white dominated theme, but here we are. I really like the Papirus Folder Colours app. It has solved icons for me. I use my machine for boat design and all the usual things.

hello darknetmatrix and everyone
ceeslans, You can designate W- between quotes where it is "area "
(but i turn off rc taskbar_name = with a zero. )
here is example tint2 executor shows text indication of Current Workspace Number.

Code: Select all

execp = new
execp_command = xprop -root -spy | awk '/^_NET_CURRENT_DESKTOP/ { print "area " ($3 + 1) ; fflush(); }'
execp_interval = 1
execp_continuous = 1
execp_font_color = #F0D620 100
execp_tooltip  = " #1 - #  "
hello, this tint2; leafpad is on workspace 2.
The task icons above it are on workspace 1.
The current workspace is workspace 1.

Fun fact: While under development, Windows 95 was codenamed Chicago, which is why the retro theme is called "Chicago95".

I installed Cinnamon from LMDE on MX-23. Seems to work well, even with SysV. I like that it is "feature complete". Maybe nothing new to those using KDE, but Xfce started to feel long in the tooth, lacking “nice-to-have” features. My only concern is stability, but so far so good.

Hi there, sorry for the delay in reply, but private life and stuff.
Git clone this repo: https://github.com/grassmunk/Chicago95 and run the automatic installer: installer.py

So - I found out how to get the panels adaptive - means, they are transparent as long as no window touches them, but becomes opaque as soon as a window touches them (or is maximized). The photo was taken on Heidelberg Airfield during that solar storm in May.

Yes. Window Maker emulates the look and feel of NeXTSTEP. I think what attracted me to this desktop was it didn't look like your typical FVWM, KDE, Gnome desktops I was using at the time.
AfterStep was another desktop (similar to the look of Window Maker) I liked to tinker with.

I updated to newest Cinnamon from LMDE repo. Just like KDE, Cinnamon is pretty "finished". There isn't really anything to add that can't already be accomplished with extensions. So it's mostly Wayland fixes from here on. The Wayland session wasn't very usable, at least not in VBox.

Wallpaper and Conky WIP,

We recently watched The Matrix again after many years and it made me want to try a wall of CRT monitors idea but not exactly like the wonderfully shot drab greens in The Matrix so I GIMP'd this and then added a monochrome Conky with Terminus(TTF) font in one of the monitors, shown in Enlightenment on AV Linux MX Edition 23:

Thanks all for the comments!

I could do a few variants for sure, right now I have a bit of an issue sharing this because I'm using a 4K monitor with 1.7x scaling so I've had to adjust for this in my wallpaper and conky and sharing it as is would only work on a system with the same resolution and scaling as mine. I need to work up a 1920x1080 version where everything is positioned in it's actual size and that way it should 'just work' on any system with 1920x1080 actual resolution.. .

The Conky can also be used on it's own combined with an optional monitor background sized 640x480:

Not all conky's can be shared unless the user spends time adjusting it to their setup.
Here's a conky I wrote using an image of my motherboard and the conky specs line up with the various components on the motherboard (which is just my background image).
This conky won't work on my current 1440 monitor because I wrote it for my 1080 monitor 2+ years ago.

Thanks. That was back when I was learning how to write conky's and it taught me how to work with positive and negative offset values.
Another conky value I learned (because of this one) was " own_window_type = 'override', " so that I could still bring up fluxbox's menu anywhere on the desktop.
Otherwise I had to click outside of the conky to get the menu to show.

This is mine for the time being. I thought about putting my panel at the top and my dock on the bottom, but I'm testing this setup out for now to see how it affects my work flow. I even thought about putting my panel on the left and my dock on the right. We'll see. That's what makes MX Linux so fun is the ability to customize it any way you want it to be! I'm still learning how to customize my dock. I would like to be able to put my games folder and my VPN desktop launchers folder in my dock somehow instead of them being on my desktop screen. I have my dock set to auto hide when my browser or other windows are open. I really like that feature.

A sneaker screenie of the groundwork for future AV Linux 25 which will boot systemd by default and hopefully resolve some teething issues with 23.X, taking a page out of the @dolphin_oracle playbook and trying on the Vertical panel idea in Enlightenment. New custom GTK themes (based on Skeuos), matching color palettes, Icons, art and a newly added Conky based on Enlightenment's 'flat-fan' background and custom Papirus Icons complements of @Melber and his Papirus Icon folder coloring tool which has given many MX Users a lot of fun and the best matching Icons in the west! Lots of refinements, improvements and a new "base" version coming for folks who might want to try an MX-based lean and mean pure Enlightenment build on an ISO as an alternative to forks like Bodhi and Elive ..

It's just another panel, with the application menu on the left, the icon-only task manager in the center and the minimize all window widget on the right.

Edit: Oh, and the centering has been achieved by adding spacers left and right of the task manager.

In VBox with my favorite startup applets/plugins both LXQt and Xfce consume slightly less than 1 GB RAM. Both are CPU friendly and will happily run on a dual core CPU.

It’s probably possible to shave 300 MB from either desktop if you are starved for RAM.

Sometimes proprietary gpu and wifi drivers can eat a lot of RAM. And browsers. And kernels. I have stopped worring about DE RAM consumption.

One thing I noticed is that the Liquorix kernel felt snappier than the stock Debian one. Also smaller install size I think. I noticed on my Intel machine I was able to run without any dkms packages, even with stock Debian kernel (Wifi still works). This saves time during kernel updates.

Yeah, playing around. The basic thought was having something that is 4K ready . I don't own any 4K monitors, but my TV is 4K and Qt5 is far ahead of gtk3 when it comes to scaling. Esspecially fractional gtk3 scaling is kind of bad even if it works somewhat. Internally gtk3 can only do integers so the window manager must upscale/downscale the entire view area causing performance and battery bottlenecks.

Yeah, that exactly soured me on XFCE4 big time, I can believe there isn't a lot more outcry about it's scaling issues, obviously in the context of this Forum there aren't a large number of 4K Users... For me 2560x1440 was about as far as you could go with XFCE4 at it's native scaling, after that things go downhill fast.

Shown are the File-Manager agnostic "Open With" Custom Actions that cut out the need for service files specific to individual File Manager and should work with pretty much any File Manager (EFM shown). Lots of other stuff under the hood too, a modified default Enlightenment theme and continuing work on custom Icons. *Note some actions are not shown and others are for development use only as need arises.

Hi,

I've been testing Bodhi Linux and it's Moksha Desktop Environment (a fork of Enlightenment). I wanted to bring some of their rich earthy palette to Enlightenment and at the same time dabble with some new skeumorphic GTK themes. The developer of the 'UltraSkeuo' and 'DeeplySkeuo' GTK themes has done some great and unique stuff and allows you to compile your own versions of the themes with editable templates. I'm hoping to weld a Bodhi/MX/Moksha hybrid together so I got a jump on adapting the MX Logo to the Moksha color scheme.. Shown are a variety of apps in GTK3, GTK4, Enlightenment format. *Note that Firefox forces it's own Window management as do GTK4 apps.

There is a setting in Firefox to modify the toolbar and there you can turn off CSD to get a normal titlebar.

I did some theme tweaking to my LXQt desktop to keep it more in line with my Cinnamon desktop. (If there are strange dots/colors then it's because my gfx card is a little wonky, they show up in Windows too).

Wow, they are both gorgeous! Nice work and surprising how unified they are, I admittedly know almost nothing about Cinnamon though..

*NOTE I had a pretty good look through the Firefox settings and I didn't see anything specific to toolbars and CSD, any hints? Using latest FF from MX Repos

The Konsole output should deliver themes/icons I have chosen now.

hello everyone .conky
From a conky named Automatik
having self discovery by python of cpu core count
is this sample of some of its parts
which will display each core.

From inside the file samplemoncpuseveral, Run /startcpu sh
will create the conkyrc and launch the conky monitor.

Birthday present from wife. IBM X230. Plan to take a snapshot and swap platter drive in here for 240 gig ssd.

This is a dual booter with antiX 23 runit full . The antiX snapshot made on here will try it on a IBM X201 which I am
Hoping the specs are close to this touchscreen netbook also. Since both are touch screen netbooks . Just different years.

240 Gig ssd already swapped in for the windows 10 platter drive that came on the X201 with only 4 gig of ram in it.

Wacom Pen works on both installs.

Code: Select all

Get well soon! I've done a few 48hr. fasts haven't worked up to a 72 yet, amazing how good you can feel once the hunger cravings go away, you gotta have your head in the game though for sure!

That wallpaper pack was a day brightener, thanks!!

Yes I can  but when it's all finished and done, you step back with a sense of personal satisfaction. That's what drives us to do this. :bouncing:

Going back in time and doing some theme work with the Enlightenment Ice theme and a new custom GTK theme based on Skewaita. In place of Conky using the Enlightenment Forecast, Clock and Places Desktop 'gadgets'. Background downloaded from Deviant Art. Obsidian Gray Icon theme.

Also finally rid myself of a regretted nVidia 4080 Video card and went back to the loving arms of my AMD 6750XT, I was luckily able to sell the 4080 on FB marketplace and took a light beating on it... stupidity tax I guess...

After having tested a few desktop environments I'm back to XFCE. There are pros and cons with every DE. Since XFCE 4.20 seems to be the best version of XFCE yet I think I will stay with it and sometimes switch to Cinnamon which is also installed on this snapshot. MX-23 is a great and remarkably "finished" OS.

Thanks, but I haven’t created any theming assets. It’s just copy/paste. I also created “my own” Plymouth theme with copy/paste and a few edits. Pretty nice that it is still possible to customize looks and functionality by editing text files.
