The one thing about fluxbox that's bothering me, and the next thing I plan to try to figure out how to "fix", is that once you've right-clicked to open the menu it stays there until you either select something or press the escape key. I want it such that if you left-click anywhere in the empty desktop it closes the menu. If that's possible it will be my next feat of legerdemain.

(Fluxbox is fun to play with! Thanks to whoever made the MX overlay for it! It's a new toy just in time for *insert holiday here*)

@Chris: I seem to have pasted back in the old menu at some point.
Thunar opens up to ~/.fluxbox (as it says in the FAQ) because everything having to do with fluxbox is located there.

@JayM: I left those two commands out because they are both available from the login screen, and I was trying to keep the menu uncluttered. There are other ways to handle just about everything...
As OP states: "There is no menu visible, but a right-click anywhere on the desktop will bring it up."
Right about the menu sticking: I just hit Esc

You close the menu by right-clicking on its header.

I didn't know that...not intuitive, huh?

Based on the replies, fun seems to be the main answer.

Perhaps for you that would be all there was. Other users will profit from the great reduction in load, and still others are attracted to the overall minimalistic aesthetic.

No reflection on Jerry's outstanding effort here, but I am not a fan of Fluxbox. If I am going to use a Stacking window manager style, I prefer using xfce over anything else (I know xfce is a Desktop Environment); but, xfce uses only a small amount of memory beyond most functional (by my standards) Stacking Window Managers like (jwm, iceWM, Openbox, Fluxbox).

I've been using Fluxbox for years, and curiously I installed MX to try it. Congratulations, very interesting to use it in combination with the XFCE tools and the MX Tools.

I've used Bunsen Labs, and CrunchBang++. I don't see that much difference between Openbox and Fluxbox, purely from using and configuring it.

One thing that I find is better in Fluxbox is the included panel. I find it much easier to configure than Tint2.
