Maybe try another round of the following to make sure that everything is installed fine?

Code: Select all

apt-get dist-upgrade
apt-get install -f

I think my first attempt with the wrong repo corrupted something. I installed 1.16, and I still didn't have icons everywhere. I then created a new user, and that user looks just peachy keen!

I'll take this out of the screenshot thread. Thanks for the help!

Antix that I setup for my autistic grandson's laptop <christmas present from me in the mail>

Image

Icons are single click <rox pinboard>. I installed the kitchen sink since he is still a computer challenged user.
Loaded up comic books, mp3's, .avi's and mp4's, ebooks, many many dos games, and lots of wallpapers.
Tried to keep it KISS for him. The telephone will be the support line.
For things like installing apps, making desktop launchers, using smtube, running apps, and

Code: Select all

apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade
Good thing my phone uses face-time.

Those are no good as Sakasa left that site a while ago. I don't know where he currently hosts his work now.

No I don't mind. Just surprised is all. The site link terms of use rules I used are.
Terms of Use

What cannot be uploaded to Postimage.org servers:

Copyrighted images if you don't own the copyright and are not licensed to do so
Violence, racial intolerance, or advocacy against any individual, group, or organization
Any images that might be illegal in the USA or EU
Adult / pornographic imagery is not allowed. We recommend you to use other sites, like PIXXXELS or EroShare for your adult image uploads.
Edit: OK. My bad. I see now. It was the veedgo link that was kinky. I guess that is why Sakasa left that site.
Thanks Eadwine.

The seller accepted. I cannot buy ram this cheap here in west texas. Power bricks/power adapters are about 10 bucks from china.

can't gauge from the tightly-cropped screenshot whether that "line" belongs to an element within conky, or the conky window, or...
If you are running the (antiX default) non-Lua legacy version of conky, configuration docs are available here: https://github.com/brndnmtthws/conky/wi ... umentation

Before tweaking the configuration, to troubleshoot I would switch between icewm{--}flubox to check whether or not the artifact is displayed regardless of which window manager. If you discover that it's a quirk specific to fluxbox, send a PM & I'll investigate further.

Description: feature-rich screenshot program
Shutter is a feature-rich screenshot program. You can take a
screenshot of a specific area, window, your whole screen, or even of
a website - apply different effects to it, draw on it to highlight
points, and then upload to an image hosting site, all within one
 window.
 .
 Features:
    * take a screenshot of your complete desktop, a rectangular area
      or capture a website
    * take screenshot directly or with a specified delay time
    * save the screenshots to a specified directory and name them in a
      convenient way (using special wild-cards)
    * Shutter is fully integrated into the GNOME Desktop (TrayIcon etc.)
    * generate thumbnails directly when you are taking a screenshot
and set a size level in %
    * Shutter session collection
o keep track of all screenshots during session
          o copy screeners to clipboard
          o print screenshots
          o delete screenshots
          o rename your file
    * upload your files directly to Image-Hosters (e.g. imgur.com), retrieve
all the needed links and share them with others
    * edit your screenshots directly using the embedded drawing tool
Image

the images should not be arranged one below the other.

preferable so

very nice work.
If you want a boost, you'll find this.

I don't have a system for that right now. Consider it one of my next challenges. ;)
Thanks for the links

The syntax1.10 fails with all Lua scripts used here (because, not intended).
Conky1.10 will never again reach this enthusiasm in the user community!

My vacation

Image

Still unfubarring my 32 gig sd card on my chromebook install during my vacation trip. Seems airdroid can fix a AntiX install to not shutdown and do all kinds of weird stuff when your sd card is set to automount in /etc/fstab and you symlink a bunch of stuff < folders > from /home to /media/E10C-A032 < name of 32 gig sd card >

Now I will roll with just the 16 gig internal ssd and use a removable pen drive instead for extra storage. In the mean time. Moving everything from corrupt sd to a 1tb external usb drive and will reformat it and throw it in a camera.

ascii - Images don't look really good in neofetch by antiX...

Therefore I used the logo of antiX for the representation in neofetch. Generally the image display from the wallpaper directory or single images is no problem.

the screenshots show Conkys1.9 with two futuristic clocks from @easysid (inside) and Sector11 (outside),
a chronograph of @mrpeachy and the system of @Olgmen

hm, not even two pictures are allowed in the forum software... :frown: then in a different way :p

Male, could you post the configs/lua scripts for the 2 clocks in your image above? I visited the bunsenlabs sub forum on conky clocks and couldn't find them.

Like KoO said, very nice! I'm totally lost when it comes to working out how to use lua scripts in a conky of my own.

Can I confirm that this Lua clock won't work with conky 1.10?

I couldn't get it to work on MX 17. I've already changed the path for the Lua script in conky, and for the images folder in the Lua script.

Also your creative restlessness in this thread is the expression of the gratitude of this community. Image

The second (system) clock was created by @Olgmen, a developer from St.Petersburg. He always impressed me with how he simplified guru configurations (mrpeachy; wlourf etc.).

Interestingly, the original 1.9 configuration works in MX17.

--[[ BARGRAPH WIDGET
	v1.3 by wlourf (03 march 2010)
This widget draw a simple bar like (old) equalizers on hi-fi systems.
	http://u-scripts.blogspot.com/

	The arguments are :
	- "name" is the type of stat to display; you can choose from 'cpu', 'memperc', 'fs_used_perc', 'battery_used_perc'...
or you can set it to "" if you want to display a numeric value with arg=numeric_value
    - "arg" is the argument to the stat type, e.g. if in Conky you would write ${cpu cpu0}, 'cpu0' would be the argument.
If you would not use an argument in the Conky variable, use ''.
	- "max" is the maximum value of the bar. If the Conky variable outputs a percentage, use 100.
	- "nb_blocks" is the umber of block to draw
	- "cap" id the cap of a block, possibles values are CAIRO_LINE_CAP_ROUND , CAIRO_LINE_CAP_SQUARE or CAIRO_LINE_CAP_BUTT
	  see http://www.cairographics.org/samples/set_line_cap/
	- "xb" and "yb" are the coordinates of the bottom left point of the bar, or the center of the circle if radius>0
	- "w" and "h" are the width and the height of a block (without caps), w has no effect for "circle" bar
	- "space" is the space betwwen two blocks, can be null or negative
	- "bgc" and "bga" are background colors and alpha when the block is not LIGHT OFF
	- "fgc" and "fga" are foreground colors and alpha when the block is not LIGHT ON
	- "alc" and "ala" are foreground colors and alpha when the block is not LIGHT ON and ALARM ON
	- "alarm" is the value where blocks LIGHT ON are in a different color (values from 0 to 100)
	- "led_effect" true or false : to show a block with a led effect
	- "led_alpha" alpha of the center of the led (values from 0 to 1)
	- "smooth" true or false : colors in the bar has a smooth effect
	- "mid_color",mid_alpha" : colors of the center of the bar (mid_color can to be set to nil)
	- "rotation" : angle of rotation of the bar (values are 0 to 360 degrees). 0 = vertical bar, 90 = horizontal bar
	- "radius" : draw the bar on a circle (it's no more a circle, radius = 0 to keep bars)
	- "angle_bar" : if radius>0 angle_bar is the angle of the bar
v1.0 (10 Feb. 2010) original release
v1.1 (13 Feb. 2010) numeric values can be passed instead conky stats with parameters name="", arg = numeric_value
v1.2 (28 Feb. 2010) just renamed the widget to bargraph
v1.3 (03 March 2010) added parameters radius & angle_bar to draw the bar in a circular way

From here.
Can I confirm that this Lua clock won't work with conky 1.10?
A conversion to configuration 1.10 and its representation in MX17 works for me.

Thanks for all 3 of your replies. Now I have some fun stuff to keep me busy when I have a little more time this weekend!

But regarding you not being able to get the date/time chronograph clock (mrpeachy, sector11) running in MX17,I'm wondering whether maybe that is related to why I can't get the manual gears (grimy wall) lua clock running in MX17 (although you were able to). Two possible things affecting my system:

1) I notice that the lua scripts mention "requires cairo". Which cairo packages are required? I checked Synaptic and there are many packages with the word cairo in them, but there is none with the single word "cairo" as its name. I have a python-cairo package pre-installed , but there are many more not installed.

2) Also, I have compiz running, so I don't know if maybe there are issues with the own_window and argb settings that I will have to work out.

When I have the time to try out your configs, I'll disable my conkies running through CM and try running your stuff (using .conkyrc file) from terminal so I can check on the error messages.

I'll also change the manual gears clock conky back to 1.9 syntax if it works, so I can manage it using Conky Manager.

No ansqwerth, this has nothing to do with other packages bearing the name "cairo" in them

Code: Select all

require 'cairo'
Next we have

The package dependencies associated with the conky version

Code: Select all

conky -v
apt itself handles this.

The only astonishing point was that my (and @eadwiene's) MX17 version didn't have lua5.2 on board, which is necessary to convert syntax1.9 ---> to syntax1.10.
Maybe this is intentional because of the construct: conky-all(1.10) and the CM and its configuration files in 1.9

Sounds like something we should correct for the next version, thanks for mentioning it.

I doubt lua5.2 has anything to do with the problem. Regarding converting conky 1.9 to 1.10, COnky 1.10 does it normally while running, even in MX15/16.

Anyway, what I did was try to get the manual gears clock conky running in Manjaro, which has conky 1.10, lua (latest 5.3) and lua52 both installed, and also has cairo package (1.16) already installed .

This was the initial terminal error message.
Screenshot_2018-11-06_14-30-44.png
I had to use screenshot because after that first message, another error message kept propagating non-stop (see below) and I couldn't scroll up fast enough to copy the starting error message ("select all" menu option also wouldn't work):

Code: Select all

conky: llua_do_call: function conky_main execution failed: attempt to call a nil value
conky: llua_do_call: function conky_main execution failed: attempt to call a nil value
conky: llua_do_call: function conky_main execution failed: attempt to call a nil value
conky: llua_do_call: function conky_main execution failed: attempt to call a nil value
So it didn't work in Manjaro either for me. How did you get it to work??

That's very thoughtful of you.

Although the user heart in me says, you would rather have used the solution of anticapitalista in antiX...
But here I have no idea how long a developer can build "against" the new package.

First of all, these are the "inconsistencies" of 1.10 ! The gurus have already stumbled over this. 1.10 punishes immediately "errors" of the configuration from 1.9
But the screen says for me, that lua5.3 is not installed ?

I confess, with 1.9, I didn't even try it.
I cleaned up the code and adapted it to my MX system and then converted it to 1.10.

I think the terminal error message shows that lua53 is installed but the cairo modules can't be found.

Also, here is a screenshot from the package manager of manjaro to show it's installed (note that lua52 is also installed):

To clarify, you successfully ran the original clock conky under conky-legacy (version 1.9) in MX, then you just converted the syntax of the clock config file to 1.10 but you didn't try running the converted file on a system that runs conky 1.10?

grimy_wall in version1.9 also runs in MX17 and here you can also see the error message I meant in the terminal

No, I"m not talking about the usual error message about converting from old syntax. I didn't get that error message because I was using YOUR (not the original) clock config file which you had already converted to new syntax in your earlier post.

I was talking about this error:

I'm back in MX17.

Used the pkill command and then ran the conky. Got this message:

Code: Select all

tuaz@mx17final:~
$ conky -c "/home/tuaz/.conkyrc" &
[1] 6178
tuaz@mx17final:~
$ conky: Syntax error (/home/tuaz/.conkyrc:2: unexpected symbol near '#') while reading config file.
conky: Assuming it's in old syntax and attempting conversion.
conky: [string "..."]:151: [string "converted config"]:138: unexpected symbol near '}'

[1]+ Exit 1 conky -c "/home/tuaz/.conkyrc"
But looking at the conky for grimy clock, line 151 is a blank line, while lines 152 to 155 are:

Code: Select all

# -- Lua load -- #
#lua_load /media/5/Conky/easysid/MechClock/fancyclock.lua
lua_load /home/tuaz/LUA/fancyclock.lua
lua_draw_hook_pre main
The path for my lua script location is correct. Is there some issue with using capital letters for the folder path?

Line 138 is commented out so again I don't understand the error message:

Code: Select all

## ${lua conky_draw_bg 10 0 0 0 0 0x000000 0.2}
Still can't run it. So weird.

I made another picture for a better explanation. ;)

I use the Terminator, because it can be divided so well visible
Left 1.9 Right 1.10 / MX17 - daily updated

- the pkill command is specified above with full path in quotation marks

- below is the start command. If the configuration to be executed is in the user's $HOME, the full path need not be specified. No quotation marks!

Both commands need the AND character & at the end, so that the terminal / process is released again.

MX17 is equipped with the Conky-Syntax 1.10. The configuration is written in Lua. Conky 1.9 however not
That's why "Conky-Syntax 1.10" of MX criticizes the character '#' from the 2nd line of the 1.9 configuration right at the beginning, because he doesn't knows it.
This would happen continuously with every character he doesn't know until the end of the configuration file. (If I were to fix it one at a time.)

If there are continuous, fast errors in the terminal, then I use the OBEN pkill command and the terminal at the bottom stops immediately. There I can look at the error messages by rolling back then in peace.

@asqwerth

Code: Select all

..
$ conky: Syntax error (/home/tuaz/.conkyrc:2: unexpected symbol near '#') while reading config file.
conky: Assuming it's in old syntax and attempting conversion.
..
This is the error I just described due to the use of 1.9
If you took the trouble to start every single Conky from MX17 - CM in the terminal, you would see the same error, because they are all written in 1.9.

Code: Select all

..
conky: [string "..."]:151: [string "converted config"]:138: unexpected symbol near '}'
..
This is an internal error of 1.10 (--> string..), because your configuration file is clumsy
This happens by copying, changing, etc. pp.

You can debug Conky by adding e.g. -DD at the end:

Code: Select all

pkill -xf "conky -c /path/to/conkyrc -DD" &
conky -c ~/path/to/conkyrc -DD &
But there's no use in it here. ;)

Male, many thanks for taking the time and effort to help me through this.

However, I think you are still confused about what I'm asking, maybe because I didn't explain well enough.

I am very much aware of this normal error message:

Code: Select all

$ conky: Syntax error (/home/tuaz/.conkyrc:2: unexpected symbol near '#') while reading config file.
conky: Assuming it's in old syntax and attempting conversion.
that pops up whenever conky 1.10 parses and tries to display a conky config file that is written in 1.9 syntax. I run old and new syntax conky configs concurrently in distros that are already using conky 1.10, including MX15, 16 and 17. The error happens all the time for old syntax files but most of the time conky 1.10 is able to run the old syntax files anyway.

My problem is that despite the error message, you managed to get both old and new syntax versions of the grimy wall clock conky to work on your MX17, and I couldn't.

A) New Syntax Config file:

In your post here: viewtopic.php?p=465425#p465425

you converted the old syntax grimy wall clock to new syntax and got it to run.

I tried using your new syntax config file to run on Manjaro and could not.

In my post here: viewtopic.php?p=465609#p465609 , I detailed the error message I got, which has nothing to do with conversion (since the config file was new syntax). It's to do with not having some cairo modules.

I'll have to check out your converted config file on MX17, as I haven't done so after you posted that you got the old syntax config file to work on MX17.

B) Original grimy wall config file - Old Syntax

In your post here: viewtopic.php?p=465619#p465619

you were able to run the original old syntax file in MX17's conky 1.10.

In my post here: viewtopic.php?p=465626#p465626 , I booted back into MX17 and tried to run the original syntax (1.9) grimy wall config file that I downloaded from the deviantart link you provided previously ( viewtopic.php?p=455468#p455468 ).

I also tried to use the pkill command following what I saw from your screenshot here:

http://www.imagebam.com/image/a6362e1023524444 , but I admit I can't recall if I added the "&" at the end.

Below the usual "conversion" error message, I got:
conky: [string "..."]:151: [string "converted config"]:138: unexpected symbol near '}'

[1]+ Exit 1 conky -c "/home/tuaz/.conkyrc"

You have said that:
...This is an internal error of 1.10 (--> string..), because your configuration file is clumsy...
Regardless of whether the original old syntax config file is clumsy, you got it to work. That is why I'm puzzled because it didn't work for me.

I used the original downloaded config file from deviantart; I only adjusted the config file to point to the file path for the lua script, and edited the lua script to insert the path for the images folder. Did you use that same config file or did you redo some parts of it yourself?

male wrote: Tue Nov 06, 2018 1:29 pm ... the pkill command is specified above with full path in quotation marks

Noted.

Thank you so much for that bunsenlabs forum link. Dobbie03's problems and even his error messages trying to run the clock conky in Arch are so similar to my problems trying to run grimy wall clock in Manjaro!

Now I know there is an issue with lua scripts and/or cairo and/or imlib2 (due to directory structure maybe) running under conky 1.10 in Arch-based systems. That explains why grimy wall clock (new syntax) did not run in Manjaro.

In the end, Dobbie03 never got it running. S11 rewrote the conky for him, he downgraded to conky 1.9, and then the clock conky worked.

https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic ... 399#p54399

So anyway, knowing that Manjaro/Arch is just bad for certain conkys with lua stuff, I tried running your new syntax grimy wall clock conky in MX17 and it worked!

But even though you managed it in MX17, the old syntax original version of the clock simply does not work for me in MX17. Really puzzling. I tried using pkill, but the error message is as before: some error in line 151 and 138, then the terminal stops there, no further text, and the conky never appears on my desktop.

I think that's about as good as it's going to get. The new syntax clock works, but I can't manage it through Conky Manager as CM doesn't detect it. So if I want to use it in MX17, I will have to manage it and any other conkies with my own conky startup script and not through CM.

Hi, everyone.
Here's my antix 16.2, with (you would never guess if not for the background image) Fluxbox.
My conky is modded to show the essencial info, but not the bars, also because there's no easy gui access to a calendar, this month's calendar and also part of my google calendar agenda (via Calcurse)

-There were a few errors, e.g. no nameserver is created for the connection to the network. The /etc/resolv.conf respectively
/etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf is always empty when restarted. After manual entry of the name server, the system is connected to the network. Where can I set this correctly again?
-synaptic I had to uninstall
-wicd is absurdly located in the ControllCenter, but has to be installed first.
-spacefm has been replaced by pcmanfm
-Firefox-esr was replaced by Firefox
-I installed the siduction kernel. I'm waiting for the 5'er, which is still in experimental-Repo.

Which Conky do you mean by #122 ?
but if you mean the one in #123, here I have only reproduced the colors of the wallpaper in the Conky
(PS where do you upload your screenshots too)?
I'm uploading the pictures here. It is practical to select a plurality of pictures and then upload them.
Now I'm looking for another image hoster, because Imagebam subordinates half pornography to the user, if JavaScript is not disabled.

Also love this theme, used it for quite long some time back... With your conky looks amazing indeed.

-You also choose corresponding niroki gtk theme in "customize look and feel".
-Author's default transparency settings are nice too, also in urxvt - you can see in readme file incl. in download: https://www.deviantart.com/yorikvanhavr ... -134584352

He has some other nice themes above on Deviantart or his homepage:

I installed the siduction kernel. I'm waiting for the 5'er, which is still in experimental-Repo.

Great! Thank you very much for your praise and the valuable links to the creator of this beautiful theme. That seems to me really "fresh" and "alive".
Thank you

@KoO
#122 is three conkies, which one is 10 years? ;)

It was a difficult birth before towo released the 5'er kernel. This can be seen in the fact that we are already at 5.0.4.

Here now the 5'er in antiX and as a delicacy the new Radiotray-Conky with
audio-spectrum.lua (Impulse), easily adaptable to the desktop surface

Right now, I really can't complain. The system runs like clockwork...
I had expected it to fly around my ears already. Because, it always goes against systemd.

Additionally, I have installed the packages

Code: Select all

apt policy apt-listbugs
apt-listbugs:
  Installiert: 0.1.28
  Installationskandidat: 0.1.28
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 0.1.28 500
        500 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian unstable/main amd64 Packages
        500 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian unstable/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
and

Code: Select all

apt policy apt-listchanges
apt-listchanges:
  Installiert: 3.19
  Installationskandidat: 3.19
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 3.19 500
        500 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian unstable/main amd64 Packages
        500 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian unstable/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
to be prepared and run an apt dist-upgrade at least every week...
Well, still good. ;)

Today kernel 5.0.6 'came in' automatically

Image

The system was installed on March 7th.

Code: Select all

tune2fs -l /dev/sdb8 | grep -i Created
Filesystem created: Thu Mar 7 19:26:24 2019
Since I don't have much space on the record

Code: Select all

df -h
Dateisystem Größe Benutzt Verf. Verw% Eingehängt auf
udev 3,9G 0 3,9G 0% /dev
tmpfs 799M 784K 798M 1% /run
/dev/sdb8 9,7G 3,8G 5,4G 42% /
tmpfs 5,0M 4,0K 5,0M 1% /run/lock
tmpfs 4,5G 1,2M 4,5G 1% /dev/shm
/dev/sda6 99G 6,5G 93G 7% /DATEN
/dev/sdb1 11G 3,7G 6,2G 38% /media/antiX
/dev/sdb7 9,8G 5,8G 3,6G 62% /media/MX18
tmpfs 3,9G 0 3,9G 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
after the installation of the new kernel I remove old (5.0.4) it with

Code: Select all

apt autoremove
I have 5.0.6 and 5.0.5, as well as the original kernel 4.9.160 on the system.

Still everything runs like clockwork. For control I run a Test-Conky. ;)

At least one new kernel comes every week.
I know this from the past when sid put the main boot loader in my multiboot. This degenerates into real "work" ;)

Recently, I have a bug with the login in Slim. I always have to do that twice...

So, today 5.0.7-4
...and another Conky (so it doesn't get boring)

That's a very nice circular conky, male ( http://pixhost.to/show/72/102771392_eimer9.png ).

Could you share the conky config? Hopefully it's not one that only works with conky 1.9.......

;-P

Again ...

The system continues to run to my complete satisfaction.

Errors, like the last one with the missing sound, often settle quickly during a dist-upgrade. That's the advantage of sid and, I've enjoyed it for several years.
Thanks to the antiX team. Today the corrected slim.conf arrived here as well. :number1:
Please leave the "angular" faenza-cupertino-mini-icons in fluxbox. ;)

In the meantime, the 17.4-sid has become the fixed
Standard has become and I just wonder where neofetch and screenfetch take the differences from. ;)
