Beautiful Distro Overall. Running amd64 live usb on an HP Elitebook 2570p on 2 monitors.
Minor Issues:
1) When I was doing one synaptic update, when I tried to resize the update window (several times in different locations) the resize cursor kept changing into a hand grab cursor and would move the screen rather than resizing it. But I haven't been able to reproduce that behavior since.
2) In the CLI Apt-Based Package Manager, in the list of 165 programs to load, #7 should be "xmms2" not "xmms" ("apt install xmms" fails)?
3) In Conky Manager (2.7) occasionally the checkmarks in the boxes stay on even when a conky has been turned off using the space bar to toggle off. Also, sometimes space bar or enter does not toggle a conky on when it has been selected.
4) In MX Conky, using the Alt-Left Click to move a conky somewhere else works, but the conky reverts back to its original position on the next (few?) updates (e.g. at the next minute). Also, the Alt-Right Click doesn't seem to resize a conky even though the resize cursor shows up.
5) I like the dark wildflower wallpaper. Why not lean into it with MX-Emays conky as default? Or at least MX-Hermoso?

Live USB on Lenovo Thinkpad booted UEFI without issue. Touchpad and touchscreen works ok.
I believe there is a bug with display scaling though. From the display settings I selected scale 1.5x and hit apply and everything got smaller as if the display resolution increased! The 2x setting was even smaller yet. I believe this is backwards. Display scaling is supposed to make everything bigger and easier to read for higher resolution displays.
The installer went without any issues on my laptop. Everything installed correctly, including Nvidia driver installer. After messing with it for a few minutes I went back to Windows 10. Works much better for Laptops :)

too weird. Xfce's scaling option under "Display" does do the reverse. I think someone at Xfce forgot that the numbers have to be inversed for Xrandr scaling, which is what Display is using. For now, you can use the scaling in MX-Tweak, where the fractional scaling works more like one would expect.

It's normal (not only for 21 Beta, but in general speaking) as the related conkyrc file has such lines stating where it should stay, i.e. ~/.conky/MX-Simple/conkyrc :
alignment = 'top_right',
gap_x = 50,
gap_y = 50,

Seems, "space bar" toggling needs sometimes to get focus on the "row" by clicking into the checkmark first.
Otherwise spacebar appear to be ignored, like not having focus.

Cannot reproduce. Which of the 50+ conky's do show this behaviour? The ones I quickly checked do stay on the new postion as long as conky is running and was not restarted.
To change position permanently, use Conky Manager. or change manual by editing the conky-config file.
Re-calculation the position after move and update the conky config might be possible, but nobody seems to have bothered to look into this.
BirdMusic wrote: Thu Aug 05, 2021 10:52 pm
Also, the Alt-Right Click doesn't seem to resize a conky even though the resize cursor shows up.
That highly depends on the internal design of the conky, as some/most do not display the conky window "background". You can make conky background visible, e.g. by turning off compositor within Window manager tweaks.
Most of thos conky's do have positions hardcoded in relation the conky "window", so resizing conky would in most cases do not have much of an effect anway.

I did some testing with mxlinux 21 beta 1 .
the first thing i did is this right away.
install kde plasma dekstop and then this.
sudo apt-get purge xfconf xfce4-utils xfwm4 xfce4-session, thunar, xfdesktop4, exo-utils xfce4-panel xfce4-terminal
then we only have the kde plasma desktop left , and it works perfectly , tested it under vmware , virtualbox and I'm running it on real hardware now , we're not that clean but works very well.
can't complain about the bells and whistles , like conky , and shelf everything runs pretty well under kdeplasma from start up.
even kde have lower ram at reboot than xfce i have seen it in virtual , vmware and real hardware

Good to know. BTW MX-KDE 21 will be out at some point so no need to go through all of that really unless you want to just for fun.

What is the preferred method to share a folder in MX21?
I tried right clicking on a folder in Thunar and selected "Share a folder on your network" but all it does is ask for authentication and quits.
I suppose I can edit etc/samba/smb.conf but that's kind of old fashion. And the system-config-samba app that worked so well in MX19 is not supported :(
Seems like there is a lack of interest in developing easy ways to share folders with the DE.

This issue you are reporting and the whole subject has been covered numerous times in this thread, please go back through it if you want more detail, system-config-samba development stopped and isn't available for newer systems.
There is no 'lack of interest", there is a lack of time and energy to dedicate to this on Xfce right now. Everyone on every Xfce based distro is in the same boat right now.
Anyone is free to tell us of a tool to switch to (if they can find one GL) or develop something.... to many Chiefs not enough Indians it seems.
https://www.pyragraph.com/2013/05/good- ... -pick-two/
I already have a work around solution, but its not simple, requires some extra work, and really isn't a good long term solution so that is on hold... while a better one is being worked.
