19 looks nice!

When attempting to change the panel opacity to transparent, found that it looks like the "Alpha" slider bar is missing, and it won't function properly without it.
Yes, that looks like what I saw.. Alpha is gone. I can change the in and out, but there is no making it transparent just like that.
You can make it transparent. In panel Preferences>Appearance then solid color. click on the color block. Then click on the custom plus, (right under the word "Custom". It will bring up a color dialogue. Move the slider under the color winow all the way to the left, then click Select.. This will give you a transparent panel.
Maybe this can be added to the manual or wiki. I foresee a lot of questions about this after 19 is released.

That does make a difference. Things were a bit screwed up, like the taskbar continued to be small and the icons were missing at the lower left. Time was unreadable in the upper left.

I'm sure if I was able to reboot the system and keep the state, this would have made a difference.

@dolphinoracle ... I've updated and it seems I still have and issue trying to use Debian Backports from MXPI. The issue just might be on my end, but mxpi.log only has:

Oddly enough I can get to ftp.us.debian.org just fine through Firefox.

I'll reinstall this VM tomorrow just in case I screwed something up at some point.

That sounds like an internal problem with whatever server at Debian is being used for the buster backports repo, or with a router or LAN issue in their datacenter. Maybe it will work later if you wait awhile.

You know what Jay, you just sparked something.... IP address:21....

I forgot I am dropping everything outbound except what’s on my whitelist not only at my border router/firewall but also the default UFW config I load.... forgot some repos sometimes still use FTP!

In other words... issue is between chair and keyboard.

Transparent panel, issue (rather.. how to) sorted indeed.

Also.. I have Orage in the panel, I believe that one also had issues with its (not showing) transparency. That looks to be sorted as well:

How does Fedora handle this? The Plymouth box there hides any dots that go beyond the 'fake box'.
