DistroWatch

For interesting topics. But remember this is a Linux Forum. Do not post offensive topics that are meant to cause trouble with other members or are derogatory towards people of different genders, race, color, minors (this includes nudity and sex), politics or religion. Let's try to keep peace among the community and for visitors.

No spam on this or any other forums please! If you post advertisements on these forums, your account may be deleted.

Do not copy and paste entire or even up to half of someone else's words or articles into posts. Post only a few sentences or a paragraph and make sure to include a link back to original words or article. Otherwise it's copyright infringement.

You can talk about other distros here, but no MX bashing. You can email the developers of MX if you just want to say you dislike or hate MX.

Many people are like "What is MX?" we are small and insignificant. I mean we do have a few million downloads (and that's only using SourceForge counters), but compared to Ubuntus, Fedoras, Debians, we are peanuts.

Said the traveler. "There's a kingdom. Hyrule. It's not a big country, but I like it. The people seem to be happy" :smiley2: :bedtime:

There are something important to be lost by chasing scale, I think.

Well said. In any case, we never "chased after scale".

MX the distro was made for the Mepis forum community to replace Mepis. It followed Mepis' ethos of being user friendly with useful graphical tools.

Other people started reviewing the distro and writing headlines.

One good thing that came out of that was the increased interest led to really cool people joining the community, including those who have since joined the Dev or Forum Mod teams, or are recognised forum helpers.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen (obviously, I'm talking about Slashdot).
Way back when, Slashdot's motto was "News for nerds, stuff that matters" and I remember getting a significant portion of my tech updates from it.

Lately, I've noticed that I'm seeing its news stories showing up a day, or two or three, after I've already read the story somewhere else.

The fact that Slashdot is posting this story over a week after this thread posted about the DistroWatch ranking tells me that Slashdot isn't a breaking news source anymore and it probably hasn't been that way for a long time. I don't plan on unsubscribing from their RSS feed anytime soon, but if I see it first on Slashdot, I can reasonably suspect it's old news.

Maybe they will get hit with DDOS attacks now instead of us, might be the advantage we gain.
Ooopps! "HTTP 502 - Unable to connect to the origin server."
