MX-problem or Distrowatch-problem?

I don't know where is the problem, in MX, glassfiber or in Distrowatch:

I can't give a mark in a review to a distibution in 'the hallmark of Linux' ;) Distrowatch like before, I can´t send it. I can´t send them a mail (about it). Server refuses.
Some links in the site (always more than one) don´t work. At one time I passed with a VPN from an American server. I did ask what was wrong.
I have seen it before. I have glassfiber for a week.
Anyone an idea? :azn:

I just tried the Distrowatch site and had no access problems, so it's likely your ISP that is the bottleneck.
edited to add that I have a fibre connection too.

I also noticed that a VPN from the US and after that a refresh of Distrowatch does the trick.
But this is not very normal, so I'll contact my ISP anyway. Thank you!

I did contact Odido, the provider.
They say it is settings in my pc. So no progress..
It is not only Distrowatch, it is also by certain accounts. Then I do a VPN and all is okay. 9_9 But I didn't have the phenomena with ADSL a week ago.
I don't have it in my smartphone. There all goes well.

Now that is weird.

Have you tried going there using the original live usb? Does that one work?

I don't have the original anymore. I never keep them, because I update the live-usb.

I also have PCLinuxOS on a partition.
Now I have my smartphone and PCLOS who don't exclude links of normal use without VPN.
So it cóuld be MX23 which is doing it. Lets puzzle further. :cool2:

Anyway, it is not a Distrowatch-problem. I orderd something at a webshop Bol.com.
There I could not enter my account.
So after some angry-ness I started my VPN in browser. And surprise: all became okay. But why??

Have you got a browser with nothing added to it.. basically clean installed? You can try going there using that one, see if the result is the same. If it works in there, ok, something in the browser then.

Weird behavior can just be a setting inside a browser, or an extension. Hence my suggestion of trying with the liveUSB, that will rule out something in MX if live does the same. If it does the same on the live, then it is more likely to be your ISP, OR maybe if you have a router in between, could be that.

What does whatismyip say. Does it match the country you should be in?
All things to check.

Yes Falkon. It's worse..

I found an old MX 23 on usb and that one does the same in the browsers.
I suspect something in the new connectivity. But I'm certainly not an expert.
I see some safety and firewall in de router. Can that be obstructive of some sort?

So.. I made a live-usb with a download of MX 23.3.
When I run it the exclusion of links (unless with VPN) does NOT happen. Everything normal. So it is something in my current version of MX. What next? 9_9

Oneclickvpn. Or Touch. When I use it: no more trouble. But why trouble is my core concern? Why are some (not many) links closed and not with another computer, OS or smartphone?

So.. when you use the liveUSB there is no issue accessing anything.

The VPN you are using on the troublesome is a browser extension.

Just to get some things straight.

Help guys: is creating a new user an option on this install, and seeing what gives with that? If that works, the userprofile can be ported over and the old user removed? Or is this not gonna help?

(..)
Yes, it is vpn in the browser. But it works and is simple.
But my question remains, why does it occur? Can I repair it?

I think this is always a great test. Many times the users profile or settings have gotten corrupt or modified and this will typically prove that.

OK, that helps narrow things down. With the live ISO you used Firefox then, correct? If so, try Firefox again on your desktop.
You might be having problems with the Falkon web browser and I'm not familiar with setting up a new profile with that browser.

Thing is, I now see that link, and you stated there were more browsers affected. Or did I misunderstand?

If it is chrome, you can try and fake a reset of that to the default settings, by renaming the google-chrome folder in /home/username/.config/ (of course with chrome off all the way).

Once started, it will then start clean, and create a new google-chrome folder, nothing added to it. Does stuff work normally then, great, you can start fresh. If it doesn't you can simply close chrome, remove that new folder and rename the old back to what it was and it'll be back to the way it was.

Same thing with the other browsers, just find where they are at. Mostly in /home/username/ in a hidden folder, or in /.config/

Easy enough to try in any case.

I have done so before except for the making of profiles. (I have 5 browsers here, FF, Falkon, Vivaldi, Chrome and Tor.) But no success.

All browsers here. Only in MX. Not for example in PCLOS on another partition. Or a smartpone.

And in the meantime I can report that the inlog on the site I named Bol.com does work again. :number1:

Is that with the new user?

You do have to be a bit more complete as we cannot look through your walls.

(although we get accused of it, sometimes )

Odido. A new big provider here in The Netherlands with in it now Tele2 and T-Mobile. Specialist in fiber ..

Yes. Just like at Tele2. I had two new routers from them through time.
Is that special?

I even remember a discussion on some forum about Odido not allowing other routers on their network.

That is why I connected them already twice.
They made a note and will discuss it.
Two days ago en daar wacht ik even op. Maar ik verwacht er niet veel van.
Ze hadden wel dat VPN verhaal gehoord.

Ah.. we'll have to wait a bit then (mind, you need to Englishify the Dutch bits, they can't read that and it's an English language forum ;) )

+1 ISP's like to use their own DNS servers.

I was lucky enough to get the web admin password from the tech when he hooked me up with a new router.
First thing I did was change the ISP's DNS server to Cloudflare's server.

Oh.. I can come into the router, I have a username and password. But further I am not very good in these router-things.
I also have a repeater, that is mine. That's the wifi side. I do things mostly bij wire.

I choose email but seen nothing here for a long time. It did work.

New accounts are setup for several posts before those 'turn on', possibly something has not updated / refreshed and turned them on.
