if you update an rc2 regularly, does it automatically become an rc3?

from my understanding yes it will update to rec3 and then onto final release whenever that occurs. i did slep in a holiday inn last night - re: qualifications.

Yes.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Tried my first ever manual BTRFS install with RC3 on my device. I followed @dolphin_oracle 's youtube video in that I created a root and home subvolume in the BTRFS partition. In my install, I clicked "new layout", then "reset layout", then checked everything (swap, hibernate, standard snapshot), then I added a "/' and "home" subvolume to the BTRFS partition, which is also my only partition (I didn't create an EFI and swap partition).

Issues:

Timeshift fails to create any BTRFS snapshots.

I've attached my /var/log/minstall.log file.

Here's my QSI:

I am sorry that I cannot send a minstall.log file from a 64bit version.
you might try one of the failsafe boot options.
Thanks @dolphin_oracle for your note for the boot options.
(I will still try the other F6 options and report back).
Back with this link to the initial problem:

@dolphin_oracle Here now my test results for the installation routine of the 64bit version (MX21 + MX23.xx) for setting the F6 key on the live monitor:

default = Black monitor
  • safe video = Live version is loaded - O.K.
  • failsafe = live version is loaded - O.K:
viewtopic.php?p=734864#p734864

load=all = Black monitor
noxorg = Black monitor
modesetting = Black monitor

@Jerry3904 Here are my suggestions for improvement of the user manual and wiki:
(with which I probably would have solved my problem myself)
Thanks again to the menors.

In Boot-Parameters F6-key and Video-Options are described, but unfortunately hidden in such a way, that they are not found in the search field with keyword search:

XFCE i386 ISO still does not boot correctly with Ventoy 1.0.93
64 bit XFCE & KDE boot OK

Can anyone else confirm that 32 bit ISOs of MX-linux boot on Ventoy and this is just my issue?

briainxyz wrote: Sun Jul 23, 2023 1:04 pm Hi guys and gals,

Just want to say thanks for MX-23. My 78 year old mother installed it on a Lenovo Carbon X1 Gen 6 with myself guiding the installation over the phone with the help of the MX User Manual. I've no significant issues to report (she had MX-18 on a T420s for the past 5 years. For my part, I'm a Debian user for >20 years).

My mom shared her experience after wiping Windows 10 completely. This is what she said:

"You get the feeling that you're part of something intelligent and all-embracing. And that your not just a would be consumer of all kinds of rubbish at the whim of Microsoft. You feel a sense of belonging and that its not out to use you, and manipulate you for its own ends. You feel a sense of gratitude and that you're in a safe space, in the hands of people you can rely on and depend on."

Consequently, I'm about to flash MX-23 onto an old 4gb machine for my girlfriend who has no prior experience with computers. Much obliged to the MX Linux and Debian focus groups ;)
Welcome on the forum and thank you for sharing these nice words.
Andy

@andy coming at the present end of this thread and was impressed by @briainxyz's shared experience!

Usually prefer KDE iteration (RC3 was flawless for me) but after reading this witnessing, now want to try XFCE RC3 !

For now, I went back to my ext4 snapshot install of RC3 instead of my BTRFS RC3 because of the Timeshift "failed to create snapshot" bug. Just kept a snapshot of my BTRFS RC3 install also.

My current issues/bugs with RC3:

At boot, I always get "Connected to [Wifi SSID]" notification, even though I already clicked "Don't show this message again." plenty of times at boot.

MX USB Unmounter doesn't detect my flash drive (all other tools like Thunar, Live USB Maker, and Format USB work fine), so I removed the unmounter from the panel.

Default sound output keeps getting forgotten at reboot. It keeps defaulting to my internal speakers and mic instead of HDMI and my external mic. Workaround so far is booting to systemd. Which is fine because I need systemd to get AppImages working anyway.

My QSI:
