Stevo wrote: Wed Jun 17, 2020 3:19 am That's funny, I think it removed the chromium packages when I test installed it before trying to rebuild it. Do you remember which one it conflicted with?

Yes, it's going to use Chromium's settings, so should look exactly the same.
It seems OP has disappeared. I wouldn't put any effort into this.

EDIT: A couple thoughts. There is a "Portable" version that avoids package conflicts. However, profile conflicts will still be problematic. If you want Chromium extensions in Ungoogled Chromium you must use a special extension to access Chrome store. This might conflict with extensions in proper Chromium.
I have not disappeared, I was regularly following the development of this thread.

About extensions, they are a bit of an hassle with UGC. I know because I am using a portable UGC (by portapps.io) on a Win10 machine (where I can't install anything because it's provided by my employer). However, on that Win10 machine I also have Chrome installed (full installation and also "managed by my organization") and there is no conflict at all between UGC and Chrome.
But (at least in Win10) a portable Chromium/Chrome/UGC/Brave/whatever has some portability real limitations.

In conclusion, thanks again to all who tested and tried a solution. I get this is maybe a niche interest so it should not take much of your time/energy.
Lately I have started using Brave and it is basically ok (at least from a technical standpoint, without any judgement on their business model).

to be clear, google-chrome does not have a conflict. UGC has a conflict with the current regular chromium packages.

Does this mean that—if I remove all the mx chromium related packages first—I should be able to add and update UGC from then on?

Anyone still in here? I try to install UGC via flatpak, but it kept telling me to upgrade flatpak to version higher than 1.8.2. Does anyone know how to upgrade flatpak? Or is there any other way to install UGC?

Edit: Update: I have installed UGC with the binaries downloaded from the github...

maybe it doesn't matter anymore, but you can upgrade flatpak to version 1.10 with: MX Package Installer > Debian Backports tab > 'flatpak'

Would you mind elaborating on what you meant by "irritating"?
Besides, I have encountered a problem while using both chrome and ungoogled chromium. The browser kept lagging and freezing. I have been googling for a while. Do you mind pointing me to a solution and giving your advice on this one? I am using MX-19.

I have upgraded flatpak following your instructions. Thanks mate! However, there's error message in the middle of the upgrade, saying that the ppa of alexlarsson doesn't provide a file or sth like that. Do you mind explaining what happened?
One more thing, although I have installed UGC with the binaries to the verison 87, under the stable repo there are upgrades to version 89. Maybe someone in the future may want to know this one. Just FYI.

My guess is that you tried to enable a ppa to get a newer flatpak version. But ppa's are not recommended because they are meant for Ubuntu. And the newer flatpak version was in Debian-backports anyway.

a better way to install ungoogled-chromium is given in post #5 by Stevo: so at https://software.opensuse.org/download/ ... d_chromium
