My config from MX-18 conkyrc2core doesn't show the clock. I'll try to make a screenshot

By big conky, I mean with those big font sizes showing dates and times.
I agree, I think it’s a tad bit big.
But honestly the thing that made me change it was the way the hour and minutes numbers overlapped. IMO it’s hard to read quickly.

So, it's a bit big, no big deal, if reviewers judge by conky or what conky, that is pretty shallow.
Too big for my eye, maybe others like SwampRabit, but this misses my point.
It is so easy to change (40 easy choices) , remove conky completely, or edit the conky.
I was not complaining about the conky, it should be tuned to make the best live desktop to attract users and reviewers.
Any real user will adjust it to their liking.

MX-18 configs for the conkies will generally not work on MX-19, if nothing else because in MX-19 compositing is enabled by default. I spent a lot of time to get a set that would show more or less correctly.

Toggle off and on with "Conky Toggle" (in the menu). You have probably started the conky with MX Conky Manager, which seem not always change working directory, so the lua-rings get not loaded.

Well this is a fresh install from the Beta 1 ISO and I just loaded the same config I use on MX-18. Strange enougn the "hands" of the clock show a few seconds and then disappear. This always happens if I switch off and on with conky manager and also if I toggle conky off and on as suggested by fehlix.
PS: Only the "hands" show for some seconds - the lua-rings not even show for some seconds.

I finally figured out what people are talking about:
they don't like graphic design! But that was a prominent criterion in our selection, we wanted to get away from the typical Linux geeky conky and adapt it to our wide user base.

Jerry, I don’t think it has to be geeky, simple and clear work really well as a default imo.
Ones like:
MX-Semplice
MX-Gotham 17
MX-Flair
MX-Elementary
Sure people can change it, but the default should just work to the point that most people don’t feel they have to.

IMO, the default conky has to:
1. use fonts that widely-support many different written languages, since not every language uses the Latin alphabet.
2. display only basic information that translates well and still visually looks good across many different languages
So many of the conkys with interesting looking fonts may not work for an international user base as a result.
And once you replace their original font with a more prosaic but widely supported font like Noto, they often lose their cool unique look.
