All I see is that any manual change of the
apps and/or
keys and/or
overlay files can be executed on-the-fly with the smooth refresh command (combined 'reloadstyle'+'reconfigure'). Same goes for font changes in ~/.gtkrc and ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings ini.
Only
init seems to accept and execute manual changes if confirmed by the 'restart' command.
Believe I'm not the only one experiencing this; after all, @Melber was the first to notice exactly this behavior...
Yep, that's what I'm seeing.
Jerry3904 wrote: Thu Jun 01, 2023 4:15 pm
So here's what I'm thinking ATM:
1) we've had a working refresh command for 3 years without a single complaint from a user.
2) DO already has the style refresh command built into Tweak
Can we 1) continue with the MX-21 restart command that will cover 99.99% of user needs, 2) rely on Tweak to cover most of the remainder, and 3) put a short note in the MXFB Manual?
my two cents
1) I'm fine with either sticking with
fluxbox-remote restart or amending menu to something like this
Code: Select all
[submenu] (Leave)
[submenu] (Refresh)
[exec] (Reload configuration) {fluxbox-remote reloadstyle fluxbox-remote reconfigure; idesktoggle idesk refresh}
[exec] (Restart fluxbox) {fluxbox-remote restart; idesktoggle idesk refresh}
[end]
[exec] (Suspend) {sudo 'pm-suspend'}
[exit] (Logout)
[exec] (Reboot) {sudo /sbin/reboot}
[exec] (Shutdown) {sudo /sbin/halt}
[end]
If I had to choose i'd go with the later.
2)
fluxbox-remote reloadstyle fluxbox-remote reconfigure works well in tweak - stick with it

I would simplify that if we were going to go with it:
Code: Select all
[submenu] (Leave)
[submenu] (Refresh)
[exec] (Configuration) {fluxbox-remote reloadstyle fluxbox-remote reconfigure; idesktoggle idesk refresh}
[exec] (Fluxbox) {fluxbox-remote restart; idesktoggle idesk refresh}
[end]
[exec] (Suspend) {sudo 'pm-suspend'}
[exit] (Logout)
[exec] (Reboot) {sudo /sbin/reboot}
[exec] (Shutdown) {sudo /sbin/halt}
[end]
But then the ordinary user will immediately want to know what the difference is and which s/he should use. I'm still thinking of keeping it simple--all the more b/c we're in the late moments of beta testing!

fluxbox-remote restart it is then.

@Jerry3904 Couple of questions re: fluxbox menu with system language other than English (in my case set to German).
1. New docks created with dockmaker get added to the main appearance submenu as expected.
However, because menu-mx_de reads directly from
/usr/share/mxflux/menu-translations/appearance_de, the new docks aren't shown in the German menu.
2.
/usr/share/mxflux/menu-translations/settings_de submenu "Menüs" has links back to the main submenu configs.
Any changes made to these will have no effect on what is shown by menu-mx_de
Code: Select all
[submenu] (Menüs)
[exec] (Haupt) {exo-open ~/.fluxbox/menu-mx}
[exec] (Erscheinungsbild) {exo-open ~/.fluxbox/submenus/appearance}
[exec] (Einstellungen) {exo-open ~/.fluxbox/submenus/settings}
[exec] (Verstecken) {exo-open ~/.fluxbox/submenus/out-of-sight}
[end]
Am I missing some obvious way to update the _de menus?

1. See if suggestion below is also relevant here.
2. Seems it might work right if we used an asterisk like this? EN menu still works with that.
Code: Select all
[submenu] (Menüs)
[exec] (Haupt) {exo-open ~/.fluxbox/menu-mx*}
[exec] (Erscheinungsbild) {exo-open ~/.fluxbox/submenus/appearance*}
[exec] (Einstellungen) {exo-open ~/.fluxbox/submenus/settings*}
[exec] (Verstecken) {exo-open ~/.fluxbox/submenus/out-of-sight*}
[end]

@FullScale4Me
the output of the virtualbox attempt indicates you have packages not quite installed.
this can cause all sorts of issues.
to clear them up, or at least to get the install going again.
