It's useful to update my live usb mx19 beta3 to rc1?

thanks in advance :)
I don't think that you can update the beta3 to RC1, to the devs. correct me if i am wrong
You might be able to, but it won't be supported. There are quite a few changes between them, so it is not recommended to do that.

You could. Pesistence and state information won't carry over. Most of the time to make a live-usb is in copying over the large linuxfs file so you won't save much time doing this.

My guess is it won't quite do exactly what you want since it has not been tested (at least not recently). But I say "go for it!" See what happens and let us know. If it doesn't work then you can just run the program again without update enabled so it makes then entire live-usb from scratch. Let's see what happens. If that feature is not really useful then maybe we should remove it in future versions. I think I added it when I was doing development and testing. I did not expect it to end up in the gui.

Well the update feature in live-usb-maker updates almost everything so if it works as intended then PLX should be okay. The kernel, the live initrd, the linuxfs file, and even the bootloaders should get updated. This is very different from trying to update an installed systems.

Too Many Notes
At it's heart, the live system is very simple. There are bootloaders and then just three important files all in the /antiX/ directory (for antiX and MX):

Code: Select all

linuxfs the main file system
vmlinuz the kernel
initrd.gz programs to set up the main file system then switch to it
Since these will all get updated and even the bootloaders will get updated (thanks to fehlix), PLX should be fine. But on second thought there might be a problem with the legacy boot-loader. That may need to get re-installed.

With the three files listed above the live system is a single unit. If you replace those 3 files then you've done a complete upgrade except for the live bootloaders. But those should/might get updated too. It's possible there will be complaints but it will work anyway.

OK - just wondering .... is this going to be addressed or should I just drop it and live with it? Or, is this something that needs to be addressed up-stream (by the Xfce folks, for example)?

What are the "same results" mentioned in the post you linked to? I can't see what the problem is in those small images.

What are the "same results" mentioned in the post you linked to? I can't see what the problem is in those small images.
I think the question is the horizontal panel overlapping the icons. We tried to replicate that without much success in another thread, I seem to recall, but I will take a look again later today.

I don't know enough about video graphics, but it looks like your machine selected and ran with the radeon driver in MX18, but it's using another driver by default in MX19.

You'll have to wait for the experts to give you advice on how to deal with your hybrid graphics.
