i am facing this problem for the first time after using mx 19.4, 21 beta 1 , beta 2 all worked fine except rc1.
i use mpd to run songs locally. heres my mpd.conf that was succesfully working in all these mx variants except rc1.

Code: Select all

music_directory		"~/Music"
playlist_directory	"~/.config/mpd/playlists"
bind_to_address		"~/.config/mpd/socket"
auto_update "yes"
#bind_to_address "0.0.0.0"
bind_to_address "any"
restore_paused "yes"
max_output_buffer_size "16384"

audio_output {
	type "pulse"
	name "pulse"
	#type  "alsa"
	#name  "ALSA"
}

audio_output {
       type	"fifo"
       name	"Visualizer feed"
       path	"/tmp/mpd.fifo"
       format	"44100:16:2"
}
it worked in previous mx variants in the following manner. after every login i have to run this command everytime.

Code: Select all

 sudo pkill mpd && mpd -v

however in rc1,
here's the output of

Code: Select all

sudo pkill mpd && mpd -v

Code: Select all

config_file: loading file /home/primavipul/.config/mpd/mpd.conf
exception: bind to '[::]:6600' failed (continuing anyway, because binding to '/home/primavipul/.config/mpd/socket' succeeded): Failed to bind socket: Address already in use
exception: bind to '0.0.0.0:6600' failed (continuing anyway, because binding to '/home/primavipul/.config/mpd/socket' succeeded): Failed to bind socket: Address already in use
libsamplerate: libsamplerate converter 'Fastest Sinc Interpolator'
vorbis: Xiph.Org libVorbis 1.3.7
opus: libopus 1.3.1
sndfile: libsndfile-1.0.31
hybrid_dsd: The Hybrid DSD decoder is disabled because it was not explicitly enabled
exception: Decoder plugin 'wildmidi' is unavailable: configuration file does not exist: /etc/timidity/timidity.cfg
adplug: adplug 2.3.3
simple_db: reading DB
exception: Input plugin 'tidal' is not configured: No Tidal application token configured
exception: Input plugin 'qobuz' is not configured: No Qobuz app_id configured
curl: version 7.74.0
curl: with GnuTLS/3.7.1
now mpd daemon is running succesfully. and i am out of clues as to what is casuing this problem.
output of

Code: Select all

netstat -tlnp | grep 6600
is

Code: Select all

tcp6       0      0 :::6600                 :::*                    LISTEN      -
the main problem i am facing is. mpd -v after killing mpd when done previously and then if i ran ncmpcpp then i could see the songs after pressing 2 in ncmpcpp.
the things i have done in order to solve it but didnt solve it for me.
1. restarting the mpd service.
2. changing the address to 0.0.0.0.
3. reinstalling mpd and repeating 1 & 2.

Doted or blured lines in the installer. Maybe it is meant to be that way but I don't think so. Same thing on both laptop and pc. At the very least it feels awkward, undefined separation between different disks and partitions.
The dropdown menu for selecting root partition blends with the rest it looks like it is already part of the board. Not sure how to explain but maybe it's just me.

I completely agree. I think it makes the MX-21 installer (mx-installer 21.10.09) drive/partition table look absolutely awful (I'm being generous). The installer looked much, much better before those weird lines appeared.

MX-19 had a MUCH better looking installer in v21.7.02mx19, and that version does NOT show the Live USB Flash Drive as another drive, which is the way it should be in my opinion (key word in this statement is "had").

Unfortunately, sometime after v21.7.02 that awful look made its way into the latest MX-19 installer (21.10.04mx19 as of this posting).

To get a better understanding of what I am talking about, look at the screenshots of the three mx-installers mentioned above. All the screenshots are using the Template for an Encrypted installation at their default settings. I also removed the installer "help" column on the left side of the installer window in order to expand the main window for a more simple display.

MX-21_RC1 mx-installer 21.10.09 (newest MX-21 installer)
MX-21_mx-installer_21.10.09.png

MX-19.4 mx-installer 21.7.02mx19 (installer included with the MX-19.4 15July2021 (downloaded) snapshot)
There is a Live MX-19.4 USB Flash Drive connected for the installation and notice that this drive (sdb) is absent in this window, which is good (in my opinion)
MX-19_mx-installer_21.7.02mx19.png

MX-19.4 mx-installer 21.10.04mx19 (newest MX-19 installer) - it got worse...
MX-19_mx-installer_21.10.04mx19.png

Edit: All three screenshots were made with the installer seeing the same 250GB unformatted SSD.

To the credit of the newer installers, the correct partition size for sda3 is displayed (224.1 GB) as well as displaying it in gigabytes vice megabytes whereas the older installer (21.7.02) shows an incorrect sda3 size of 229483 MB which is impossible when sda4 adds an additional 8.192 GB when there is only 232.9 GB available. And it still using megabytes vice gigabytes. So the newer installers are better overall.

Curious why the installer has flagged the partition of MX-21 RC1 as "legacy_boot"?
Perhaps something I missed on the installer screen?

Otherwise, all is well with the installation...BTW, I am running AHS but that was applied after the install...and I did not want to confuse the situation.

i am facing this problem for the first time after using mx 19.4, 21 beta 1 , beta 2 all worked fine except rc1.
i use mpd to run songs locally. heres my mpd.conf that was succesfully working in all these mx variants except rc1.

Code: Select all

music_directory		"~/Music"
playlist_directory	"~/.config/mpd/playlists"
bind_to_address		"~/.config/mpd/socket"
auto_update "yes"
#bind_to_address "0.0.0.0"
bind_to_address "any"
restore_paused "yes"
max_output_buffer_size "16384"

audio_output {
	type "pulse"
	name "pulse"
	#type  "alsa"
	#name  "ALSA"
}

audio_output {
       type	"fifo"
       name	"Visualizer feed"
       path	"/tmp/mpd.fifo"
       format	"44100:16:2"
}
it worked in previous mx variants in the following manner. after every login i have to run this command everytime.

Code: Select all

 sudo pkill mpd && mpd -v

however in rc1,
here's the output of

Code: Select all

sudo pkill mpd && mpd -v

Code: Select all

config_file: loading file /home/primavipul/.config/mpd/mpd.conf

now mpd daemon is running succesfully. and i am out of clues as to what is casuing this problem.
output of

Code: Select all

netstat -tlnp | grep 6600
is

Code: Select all

tcp6       0      0 :::6600                 :::*                    LISTEN      -
the main problem i am facing is. mpd -v after killing mpd when done previously and then if i ran ncmpcpp then i could see the songs after pressing 2 in ncmpcpp.
the things i have done in order to solve it but didnt solve it for me.
1. restarting the mpd service.
2. changing the address to 0.0.0.0.
3. reinstalling mpd and repeating 1 & 2.
i dont know why or how but a reinstall solved the problem. so no need to investigate further :number1:

Reinstall of MX21rc1, or mpd?

An Energyicon a bit smaller, as in MX19, would be nice, on occasion.

You can remove it from the panel and then enable (a much smaller) tray icon in Settings > Power Manager

I did exactly this in MX19 and it was nice. But in MX21 there is no difference.
