you cannot replace the file while Xfce is running. the file is the cached version. the settings sit in memory, and are sync'd periodically, including at shutdown of Xfce.wbrells wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 9:34 am Well, I found a fairly recent version of the xfce4-desktop.xml file that allows different wallpapers to be selected as expected. I notice that this "working" xml version, unlike the "problem" version that I've been using, does not contain a reference to the "mouse" wallpaper xfce-mouserace.svg. HOWEVER, replacing the "problem" xml file with the mouse-free version didn't change anything - the mouse is still the only wallpaper available! Perhaps the old xml file is being cached somewhere?
