If you don't want to deal with these, install the 23.2 ISO.

oh really, I was thinking on cutting down data costs, I am close to the equator, though prices might look cheap when converted to dollar equivalent...things aren't that affordable for most people...

~6gb is a lot

Hi,

I'm sorry but there were some pretty vital permissions issues on 23.1 that couldn't be fixed with package management alone, I very strongly recommend 23.2. Is there a way I can help you with the data cost?

wow, is there a way you can help me with data costs? YES, if you are willing, why would I turn down help to my benefit? :number1:

but at the same time, I haven't received international payments and so I only have a paypal account I opened because I could open it...

but paypal blacklisted my country for a long time that after they allowed us to have accounts, we could not withdraw the funds to our local bank accounts...what is my country? I heard our president was the number three man on the most corrupt presidents in the world... :frown: ...all the same I am willing to open what payment systems you suggest...

alright, about AVL 23.1, I tried several installations yesterday, up to 5 times or more, no issue with installations but once the system reboots after installation, it says no boot device found, I was astonished! What kind of error was this? I haven't been beaten by any laptop when it came to OS installation before and despite how small a market share linux had, they have all installed and booted...

so I had to do what most linux gurus no longer have strengths and patience for...tinkering with linux till it works for you...

but long story short, the issue was most likely with the hp 8460p laptop, I came across a linux mint forum thread that talked about the no boot device found error and a user who had same laptop I have commented...

https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=424061#top

and I quote:

Code: Select all

My Elitebook 8460P has the same issue. It's due to the HP early UEFI implementation. You must install Linux in legacy mode with secure boot turned off. If you are dual booting with windows, you also have to install windows in legacy mode as well. Hope it works out for you, good luck.
and he also suggested a solution which I haven't tried

https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic. ... art=20#top

and I quote:

Code: Select all

Hello again, I just remembered that Ventoy does not work for this as the Ventoy stick uses UEFI to boot. If you have access to another Linux computer use the built in image writer on another usb stick and it should work fine. Sorry about that!

it is seldom we in linux find people who use same device, same ISO installation method and same linux OS... :bagoverhead:

but I decided to wait on trying out the solution because I have lost about 2 or 3 8gb flash drives, when linux ISO's were crossing the 2gb mark, to the rufus way of making bootable ISOs which is why I went Ventoy...even sd cards I got same time period are still operational, I admit I might have exhausted the write limit due to intensive testing of linux distros and windows modded ISO's but it was all unexpected for me, I have never had genuine/original storage drives fail me before...I know it might be advised against but I still use my bootable USB's as normal flash drives storing information...

if I am going to use rufus, I will have to get AVL 23.2 first....

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear about this situation, unfortunately PayPal is my only avenue for this.. :frown:

Perhaps this may be of interest.. I'm working on an interim AV Linux "Greatest Hits" ISO, it will not be a full release and it's intention is to refine the installation experience with Enlightenment with systemd from live boot through to install and to make a more generalized Enlightenment MX build. It will still have a multimedia focus but when I say 'Greatest Hits' I mean one main application for every use instead of a multitude of choices. It will also present a refined set of File-Manager agnostic Custom Actions instead of only for Thunar. It will still lean on some supplemental AppImages so we're not talking as small as MX but I'm hoping for 4Gb or less.

It will save a bit of Data bandwidth at least. My only holdup is that I'm testing some LXQT substitutions and finishing work on the File Actions but I'm expecting to release within the next 2 weeks.

As far as your HP, sounds like you're on the right track unfortunately my specialty is the multimedia stuff and assembling ISO's I'm no more knowledgeable about Booting, Graphics and Networking than your average 'Nixer..

yo! I'll get you my paypal if need be, there will be ways to deal with the issue if I ask around, my only request is that you send it as family and friends...

you underestimate the impact of AVL in people's lives, no matter how fringe we are, when I got the hp, in my mind I was a child, I was like I get to install AVL on my rig and get to know it better through everyday use...I never liked ubuntu studio, because like I have stated before, it gave of the vibes that it was just another 'buntu flavour, it didn't give off the vibe that it was meticulously crafted like AVLinux and KX studio and I don't like 'buntus though I used Xubuntu a lot back then...

your help will make it happen in 2 days max, once I get it, and you think I won't grab it with both hands?... :alien:

and maybe I was not clear on the situation:
> use paypal freely
> blacklisted on paypal totally
> no longer on blacklist but we couldn't withdraw directly to local accounts, we can spend it though or use third party to get it locally for a fee...this is where we currently are...

one main application for each use, something to look forward too...and though I complained about the size but you shouldn't see it as something you need to deal with, you use appimages significantly, I also use appumages significantly too, infact all the apps I use are the appimage versions, when I was on windows, my preference was to have my installation file, till now I still don't buy into the linux idealogy of apps sharing similar resources, I want standalone apps, which is why snaps and flatpak would be trash to me any day any time...

so obviously ISO's would get bigger, when shipping games, audio and video apps is a necessity, ISO's being big is no longer a talking point...

yes, making your actions DE independent is a welcome development but the downside is that whoever installs it on a non AVL distro would have to have the apps those actions are tied to, if not we might be seeing breakages where there shouldn't be...

and lastly, lxqt, I see it as a KDE's small brother, one of the big issues between qt and gtk is the theme, would you be able to handle it, you might need to make themes system wide, notwithstanding if it is a gtk or qt application...a system wide theme might seem like an utopian dream truthfully but I would advise that even if you can't do it, please try to make the themes on qt, gtk, and enlightenment similar...most themes have qt and gtk versions though...

2 weeks in this age? That's a lot, I'm a late millenial but tech was intertwined in my upbringing, there's was a time, I needed to download AVL iso and you posted that a new version would be out in about 3 weeks to a month, I downloaded the ISO available then, a month later, I downloaded the newly released one...you may not believe :number1:

if I remember correctly, it was during the switch from xfce to enlightenment...

@Aceediq

PM me your details and I'll arrange something (won't be anything spectacular) to help offset the Data, your choice how you use the bandwidth but I'd strongly suggest holding out for the next 'Greatest Hits' ISO at this point *NOTE optional other packages will be in the AVL-MXe packages archive FTP.

I've found LXQT very appealing but there will be no ISO any time soon, in the meantime @dreamer has done a great job on LXQT and you can always install liquorix kernel and packages from the AVL-MXe packages FTP if you want to try a LXQT spin.

sent a pm...

yeah...I might be able to hold out for the 'Greatest Hits', if my hp doesn't get in line, I just tried installing from a flashdrive with ISO burnt by rufus...still same error...it's almost 5am here, I might need to take a nap, I'll try installing windows to know if this hdd or OS issue or laptop issue...

@AVLinux while I still battle the 'no boot disk' ish, I installed windows about two different times with no issues...

there is this issue I have on this hp 8460p on live USB AVL, the mousepad doesn't have click function but it has a two finger scroll feature but on windows, the mousepad has click functions but no two finger scroll functions on a fresh windows install, without installing specific mousepad drivers...

the mousepad buttons work well on both windows and AVL...

any ideas?
