Thank you , thank you.
A thousand thank yous.
After many long years of going back and forth between Macroshxt Windoze and LINUX, I have finally found my home---> MX Linux.
Kindly let me review my journey of how I got here.
Years ago in 2015 I got fed up with Windoze and Macroshxt's spying and low quality software.
And so I decided to move to Linux. I didn't think it would be that hard. I was wrong.
I settled on Ubuntu since it was the only one I had heard of.
At first i thought it was quite good but then the problems began. Most of them were hardware related.
None of my hardware would work properly. My printer which I need for work, was MIA (missing in action) ,
it would not function under Ubuntu (CUPS) no matter what I tried.
And so after a few weeks I gave up and went back to Macroshxt's Windoze. I was sad.
A few years later and Windoze 10 came along ( I was still using Windoze 7) and I saw all the problems people were having
with constant involuntary updates some of which would break their systems.
The rumors about Windoze 10 spying on people's computer activity were growing and growing.
I decided never to "downgrade" to Windoze 10 and stick with "7".
But my frustration grew and grew.
This took a few more years to build up, until this year, almost 10 years since the time I first tried Linux.
I started with Linux Mint since I consider myself a Linux beginner. It was easy to use but I discovered some glaring privacy concerns with
that build version. Further I realized that it was built on the Ubuntu stream which was promoting Amazon and selling user's search data to 3rd parties.
I decided to ditch Mint and go to KDE Plasma (neon). I didn't know at the time that it was also built on Ubuntu.
I found KDE to be a beautiful distro , very pleasant to work in and highly polished.
However on my system it was slow , and the Ubuntu heritage was still objectionable to me.
And so I switched to the father/mother of all distributions (leaving out Slackware lol) ---> Plain Vanilla DEBIAN.
At first, I loved Debian. It was simple, clean and fast.
I used systemd-analyze and found my system booted in less than 12 seconds.
That was awesome.
But then the problems arose.
My system would freeze up for no reason at all , as far as I could tell.
More than 3 dozen crashes later I narrowed the problem down to the noveau Nvidia driver.
Using Debian to change Nvidia driver's was very frustrating for me so I looked for an alternate solution.
And this is were my sorrow began to turn into JOY ! ---> I found MX Linux.
WOW !
I watched a few hours of video reviews on MX Linux and noted it came with the Nvidia driver installer.
No terminal fiddling needed! (Linux noob that I am).
I saw the beautiful colors and icons that came with MX Linux.
The XFCE desktop environment was exactly what I was looking for.
So... I deleted my Debian partitions and installed MX Linux.
And now a few weeks later, I am so impressed with this distro.
It is everything I was looking for.
I want to thank all of you from MX Linux that worked to make this distro the masterpiece that it really is.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
I have finally settled down to a home in Linux away from Windoze.
MX Linux is awesome.

I also want to echo the same. I have an enormous amount of respect for MX and I dearly hope nothing will happen to the team in the future. If the MX team has to shutter things, it's going to be an extremely sad day for Linux...

100% agree with
@Bneo and
@Arnox , and I know our $ are not BIG but every $ small or big $ donation does help keep our part of LinuxLand on the map.

The MX team felt all the same sads when Warren Woodsford sunsetted MEPIS, which is why MX was created to carry on in the first place.

I'm not MX system developer, only Art section person. I attention my creativity to MX user's good experience (not for me).
in other words, effort to the commonweal benefit of MX.
(Stevo Yes, Mepis is plinth of MX in history, I was work for import Mepis full logo (include Circle image) to new MX logo.)
Probably distribution of MX have long long life, This is not Sprinting, is Long full marathon. I (we) need patience and endurance.

This closely mirrors my own experience with MX Linux. After using a number of different distributions professionally, primarily for server-grade work, in 2017 I made the switch to Linux as a daily driver and, while MX Linux wasn't my first choice, the options for a systemd-free experience rapidly dwindled, and I honestly wish I remembered how MX came across my radar. I gave an 18.2 Xfce ISO a test run and, as they say, that was that. Over the next couple of years, my extensive roster of "just in case" ISOs dwindled. There was no longer any chance I was going to migrate to Slitaz, Rolling Rhino, Nitrux, Mabox, Calculate, Absolute, EasyOS, Porteus, Salix, PeppermintOS, PCLinuxOS, Funtoo (recently discontinued), Redcore, Crux, or Artix, to name a few.
There just wasn't a point in continuing to look for a better bowl of porridge. Is MX perfect? No, of course not. There's a lot of improvement still to be done, and the MX environment clearly isn't ideal for everyone. It's ideal for
me, and customizable to the point that I can adapt it to what I need to accomplish every day. That's enough.

The MX team does an incredible amount of work and they simply don't get enough recognition for what they do. Lennart Poettering will announce he's decided that systemd needs its own TCP/IP stack and mail server subsystem, and critics will hail it as a much-needed upgrade to a lagging operating system from the 1990s. Meanwhile the MX devs are quietly making Linux, y'know, conveniently usable for users of all ages and skillsets, and there's nary a peep.

To echo some of the previous comments:
Right-On
@artytux:
100% agree with @Bneo and @Arnox , and I know our $ are not BIG but every $ small or big $ donation does help keep our part of LinuxLand on the map.
If I'm willing to pay for whatever service that's out there, I feel, given all the TREMENDOUS help I have received from Team MX (including ALL the Developers, Admins, Moderators, Forum Members) that I should, at least, match the most expensive service I pay for.
I mean, if I don't have a working computer system, how can I get ANYTHING done these days?
This doesn't explain my switch from Windows, but you can search my post history as to why I switched, and it is basically the same reasons the OP gave.
Like
@DukeComposed, I, too, did some Distro Hopping, and then, Miracle of Miracles, I heard about DistroWatch, and saw MX on the top of the list, gave it a try, and the rest is HISTORY!....DUUUUDE
If it's not clear how much I LOVE & APPRECIATE MX-Linux, and the MX Team (including the Amazing Forum), then please see my concluding remarks at the end of the thread-link below. Pay special attention to "Command #3"

Oh, yeah... we are accused of manipulated Distrowatch rank and of using AI for reviews.

You don't need an AI to generate stupid reviews. Simple Markov chaining is enough to splat out these zingers:
Rating: 2 - "it's impossible to switch off the updates checking. There is no such an option in the update manager. I don`t want any softwae to use the internet connection without my concent and permission. Even if it is safe and helpful, even if I trust the developes totally, I just don`t want it - that`s a matter of principle." Even if things are safe and helpful and I trust them, I still don't want them. Zero stars.
Rating: 1 - "their mirrors are slow and rely primarily on debian sources to properly work." Yep, every single mirror is slow. And the biggest problem with MX is that there's still so much Debian all over the place.
Rating: 1 - "the community support, while active, is smaller than more popular distributions like Ubuntu. Additionally, MX Linux's use of sysvinit instead of the more widely adopted systemd can lead to compatibility issues with software and services optimized for systemd." No duh.
These are not serious people and their opinions should not be taken seriously. DistroWatch reviews are good for a laugh, and not much else.

I think that having MX Linux that does not have an immutable base and allows anyone to learn with the option of making mistakes, fixing and learning from searching the forum also asking here is what I find the best thing about Linux with MX Linux staying out of that closed off base.

it's impossible to switch off the updates checking.
Just uninstall apt-notifier, geez... I for one and am fine if people like that stay away from this community.

Adding to what some already mentioned: there is no perfect operating system. Having said that I am happy to have MX Linux. In my 3rd year of everyday use the conclusion for me is that in MX I have a well thought out system with helpful tools and options. They are helpful esp. where I need support in things that are too specialised for me and which would take a day or more and probably some broken stuff along the way to figure out. I can, and I might, but I am happy to have a system that does it reliably for me.

I totally agree with what everyone is saying about MX..! And ,just to let everyone know, I 'm flesh and blood, not A.I., not the HAL 9000...

I just put a computer together, yesterday, (a Dell 7010,SFF) I'm way better at doing hardware, than software. I Have 3 computers running Linux; 2 running MX, and 1 running Linux AV. I decided to install Windblows 10 Pro,on a brand new SSD. I bought a DVD with Product Key, since I didn't want the hassles of a bootleg copy. This machine has an I7 CPU, and 8 gig of RAM. Needless to say, I didn't find the install of this OS, as smooth as Linux, and, nowhere as interactive. Also, it took roughly 45 minutes to an hour, to install the new OS. None of the Linux OS's I've installed, took more than 20 minutes..! Also, I haven't used a Winblows systems since Xp... This new Winblows feels " clunky " compared to MX.

Like I have stated before, I'm not a developer, or computer tech, but I know enough to use, and keep a computer functional. If it wasn't for having to use Microflop, to update a few of my devices, I would have never built this computer. Some on another forum said, "Why don't you just go to the library, or borrow a laptop running Winblows, and save the money"..? Guess what..? The closest library to me is 35 miles away, and, everyone who isn't deceased, is running Mac

Just thought I would chime in, and Thank everyone at MX for a Great OS..!

Can't agree more about MX, but Windows doesn't have to be crap for MX to be good, MX can just be good because of all the smart hard work that goes into it without whatever 'other' thing being 'bad'. I still need Windows for some things and for me Windows 10 carefully installed to opt out of some of the targeted ads performs very well.. I actually owe Windows some gratitude, it provided my first home Studio when the only other (software) option was expensive OSX and it introduced me to numerous Open-source applications which eventually brought me to Linux. If folks prefer one thing or the other that is understandable but Operating Systems are like politicians, all have flaws, all have big egos involved with muddled and often contradictory intentions. Use what you like and like what you use, I don't enjoy the tribal talk personally..

Over the years Linux has been getting easier to install than Windoze and best thing of all is none of the spyware/telemetry crap that M$ baked into Windoze 11. Even MX was a breeze to install!

I agree a lot of Linux users started with Windows then finding there is a different way to do this, my exit was updates continually resetting app settings especially the printer I did get very good (read quick) at changing settings back to my needs, if it wasn't for a retail/repair shop suggesting Linux hey never would have got here and if you think that Windows is rubbish you have a good look and try out some of the Linux Distro that not only fail after a day or three some won't install it all depends on the commitment to providing a good service, excluding monetary gains, proof of their experience with Linux doing-up a Distro all on their own self, be better to join and help in a Distro that does function and also just because Windows is not your favourite or distro of choice there is no need to cast it out with the trash, they introduce many people (millions) to computing , some will move away to other distros if they are lucky find one of the most brilliant, helpful distros anywhere and a community ready and willing to help with even the most basic questions from newbies , never treating people as stupid or dumb or annoying, I'm genuinely amazed with knowledge that is here, reliable help never far away ALL done by volunteers.
The title says it all soo
Thank You from me also.

Glad to see another person who appreciates a decent OS that isn't windows or mac. Mac's definitley spy on, and completely try to control your software choices. Windows has become like a spying nightmare at this point and to say it's harmless is being irresponsible to say the least. I grabbed a modified win10 version a few years back and still run it today on it's very own little pc. It doesn't get updates and is only used when necessary.
I think a lot of people are using MX for the same reason. Between windows and a mac was linux. It just took like ten years of ubuntu's bs to find an actual honest alternative. Can't thank you guys, and gals, enough. bad reviews are just jealousy lol
