Thank you, this has shone light on the inherent inability for mx/linux to accept the dns settings issued from the local dhcp & dns server. The issue seems to be purely down to the domain name including .local from the wiki provided.

This was a Microsoft suggested local domain name in their training over the years, which I was subject to. The really irritating thing is, only when I introduce linux to my environment a problem occurs.

Perhaps something that should be considered in future developments. Is the .local domain inclusion such a hideous situation? I don't think so from an engineering/logical perspective. discuss.....

DNS: you keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means.

I have already pointed out on this thread public resolvers you provide to your clients won't resolve local hosts. It doesn't matter that those public resolvers work on your Windows machines because those Windows machines aren't using them to find their neighbors.
