Jerry3904 wrote: Thu Dec 07, 2023 4:31 pm Back to the browser question, I have a proposal for consideration:

--install the RPi Chromium straight from the repo as default
--add no bookmarks (I believe RPi does not either--will check), pretty confident that the user will find what s/he needs; it's different from our standard scenario because there is no Live session and everything is essentially in front of the user's eyes. Maybe reconsider a desktop "Help" folder with FAQ, Manual, RPi-Tips and Forum link?
--say in the Final announcement something like this:
Unlike our other MX-Linux versions, MX-23 RPi Respin supplies Chromium as default browser because of its significantly better performance during development testing. Users preferring Firefox can easily obtain it [will they get the RPi version?] with MX Package Installer.
I'm thinking that would remove the extra work DO has described and provide a solid rationale as well for the choice.
That seems a perfectly reasonable solution.

I'll put together a modified defaults package so that the firefox link on the panel is a chromium link. that way user's won't get a broken link on the panel. and adjust the default mimetypes to point toward chromium rather than firefox.

I would prefer not to have a folder on the desktop. desktop files offer translations if available automatically. desktop folders do not, unless we script a name change per locale.

OK, great!

I was finally convinced this morning when Chr just zipped along and it was a pleasure to use. I have read that it handles hardware acceleration better as well (with YT, for example).

After installing the chromium browser via mxpi popular apps, I'm seeing a keyring prompt... I canceled the prompt twice, then the browser launched. Now every time I launch chromium I see this prompt.

The falkon browser performance is good, unfortunately its adblocker fails to handle youtube ads very well. Perhaps its adblock just needs a different blocklist?

I noticed the lightdm gkt+ greeter settings isn't present in the whisker menu, it doesn't appear to be installed. After installing it via mxpi enabled repos it appears in the menu and runs fine... the 'text keyboard' option on the greeter taskbar doesn't seem to launch anything though.

I installed apparmor via mxpi popular apps; aa-status shows the module loads, but the filesystem isn't mounted. lsm=apparmor needs to be added to /boot/cmdline.txt in order for it to mount.

that one is not the rpiOS built one. try chromium-browser package instead, although its lagging behind in version a bit.

Thanks for the report, helps a lot to have people pushing on this B1!

Yes. Vivaldi (based on Chrome) now does that.

In the usual MX installation I usually change the installation language to Spanish, but in the raspi it doesn't let me do the installation in English, if I try to add a new language I get this error:

fallo-idioma-mxpi.jpg

Best regards
I can reproduce this on a standard x86 release, so nice catch. definitely needs fixed!
