"Updated" Senpai Respin only LXDE/Openbox MX 23.6 for 32 and 64 bits
Posted: Tue Aug 22, 2023 5:51 pm
by Senpai
Hi:
Starting from my personal respin MX23.3-CLI,
viewtopic.php?t=76576, I have updated my respin MX23.3-Lxde, now in 32 and 64 bits version with all MX tools and some basic programs, as in all unofficial respins, all MX tools work except the Tour , in MX-Tweak that only shows the "others" tab.
As a window manager you have Openbox which can be accessed as a second option and Tin2 as a taskbar configured with jGmenu, plus Lxde, with LightDM as a graphical session manager.
It is a MX system without removing any service or startup program by default and with a loaded Conky, of course if you need less ram consumption can be lightened, removing from the system startup some programs and with the Service Manager tool we can stop the automatic startup or disable the startup of some of the services that we do not use, such as samba, bluetooth, cups (printers), etc...
Link to the blog where I indicate how I did it:
https://sourceforge.net/p/senpai-respin ... ktop-lxde/, there you can see some images of the system and how I made it...
Link to the download site:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/senpai-respin-mx-lxde/
Greetings

Hi:
I have uploaded to my site the Jgmenu configuration files, which were not created in the corresponding folder, so that you can configure it to your liking.
You can download it from here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/senpai ... les/Files/
To make it work just copy that folder to your "/home/youruser/.config" folder.

Hi:
I have created the new version from the new ISO 23.1, the previous versions are in the
https://sourceforge.net/projects/senpai ... files/Old/ folder.
Postscript:
SourceForge has asked me to remove the old ISOs due to free space consumption, if anyone needs them please contact me on the forum and I will gladly send you a download link.

Hi:
Pleased to announce the update of my MX-respins with Lxde and Openbox in their 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
In this version 23.2 I have also configured Openbox to be easy to use, added the Tint2 panel configured with several program shortcuts and the JGmenu menu.
Best regards

Thanks again, Please I need indications where to find the checksum file, I 've been browsing the blog and cannot find it. (I would like to compare md5 or sha1 from the file I downloaded). Thanks.

Hi:
Because I have exceeded the gb of the free SourceForge account, I had to change the download links to other sites, dividing them by projects... In the "README" file is placed the link to the new download site,
https://sourceforge.net/projects/senpai ... xde/files/
there you have the md5 file that MX-Snapshot creates and also the one that SourceForge offers when uploading the ISOs, Click on the "
i" on the right of each file and it will show you the MD5 and SHA1 sum.
When I update MX to 23.3 I will update the respin and the links in the forum.
Best regards

I have a Dell E6530 laptop that I use for testing. I decided to give your respin a go. I used a known good USB thumbdrive. Booted fine and after looking around a bit, I started the install. It passed the media test and seemed to be installing just fine. Then it reached the point of setting the configuration. It's stopped at "93% - Setting system configuration" Still setting there with no HDD activity after 20 minutes.
I really doubt it has anything to do with my hardware but here's my system That first line seems odd:

Did you install from a snapshot taken earlier, back in 2023? Then there you go.

If this is not a “live session” then this:
Code: Select all
Partition:
Message: No partition data found.
could indicate that your SSD needs to be replaced. If it is a “live session”, you will need to replace the USB stick.

Here, it seems to indicate a hardware problem

Try changing USB, it seems that it is not compatible,
Did you check the sha512 sum?, in case you downloaded the ISO wrong
What did you create it with?, do it with “MX-live-usb-maker”, BalenaEcher or even Ventoy, they are fine....
I just tried it on an old Acer 5715Z, and it installs without problems from Ventoy...
I have checked the checksums from the web and my local ISO and they are correct,
Best regards

Hi:
The data this:
Code: Select all
Snapshot created on: 20231025_1318
It refers to when my installation was created, since it is an installation that I have kept updated since 23.2 and now I created a new ISO, for new installations, as the one who has already installed Respin does not need to install it again to move to 23.3.
Best regards

@Senpai
Yes, I the checked the sha512. first try was with BalenaEtcher, second try was a a new download with MX-live-usb-maker. Same ending with both ISOs and USB creations.
It's a relatively new SSD, Patriot P210 128GB. I'll change the SSD and give it another go.
Thanks everyone for your input.

OK, I'm here with the Senpai Respin. Running great.
The hard drive checked good. I used the smartctl utility. Then I deleted the partitions and left it unallocated. I formatted the USB and used mx-live-usb-maker. Booted the usb and the install completed and rebooted fine.
I'm not sure why the first 2 tries didn't work. But, they say the third time is the charm.

I'm glad

, you should never give up....

Each PC is a world and there are many variables....
Best regards

I just installed your respin this week on an old Chromebook with a 16 GB HD, 2 GB RAM, and an Intel Celeron N2840 CPU. It made for a "snappy" and usable machine.
Thank You! Nicely done.
