Hi,
I applaud your work and effort and well, bravery to make a move in this direction, obviously you've put significant time into it... The problem with losing the err... uhm... pyramids is where to begin from there... should it be the MX letters? Should it be another new symbol..? I'll be honest I don't know if this concept is strong enough to move things away from the existing improvement by
@Freja but credit should be given where it is due, thanks for being open-minded enough to submit an idea.

The mountains design was / is a stylised 'MX", so I don't think that this new design is that big of a departure from tradition, but it does bring clarity to our brand.

Thank you. And yes I have found that many people need to visualize, so even though it may be 'hung out there' a little for people to bang on, many times it takes that to get truly seen. I CERTAINLY dont want to take anything away from Freja !! He has done an amazing job on those graphics. I just have play a little sometimes and see what happens :-)
And I do think
@j2mcgreg nailed it - This kind of design helps push the branding better.

I am impressed. They look very good.
Please let me know when you are ready to set them free to people who wants to play with them and manipulate them.
Is B&W-style a matter of minimizing the icon file size.?

Thank you Jakob77. I have made a little more progress on these and will post some versions shortly.
Not sure of your question. B&W usually stands for Black and White, nothing to do with size.

If you add a lot of colors will the file not grow.?
Maybe it is more a vector thing. I am just wondering why you most of the time stay in b&w for serious stuff and how come the original MX-Whisker icon is so impressive small in file size.

SO, Black and White is almost always smaller, because you have far less 'bits'. Grey scale adds quite a bit of bits and then color adds far more. ( Dependent upon the type of file too )
I believe black and white can produce far more impact in many cases. Also, when shrinking it doesnt degrade as badly as a color usually - but depends upon the colors that are used. Typically, when your going small like an icon, you are restricted to X amount of colors - totally dependent upon HOW MANY your using AND the clarity of what your after. When your talking about 16 pixels by 16 pixels .. EVERYTHING matters!
Even when you go to vector, you can only go so small before the image starts to blur. B&W affords the ability to make clear / clean distinction and helps to keep things non blurry.
Now, I am NOT a serious designer, so I am SURE there are going to be some disagreements here ;_) ... but .. this is my observation over years of playing, designing, working with and watching how graphics work.

Here are the 'final' images for the 'version 2' of this graphic.
The package can be downloaded from here:
https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code ... eiEVIIObOk
There are a few different sizes, but basically its all different backgrounds and display. The small icons are ok, certainly not stellar in the panel ;-/ and I shall attempt to be better on the NEXT one that I do :-) I am going to attempt to move to Inkscape for future scalability.
And here is what the package contains

Thank you for a very good answer.
I hate to tell you I get the idea something goes a little wrong when you downsize them and I can't really put my finger on what it is.
Maybe I miss a little more contrast or a little more space between the letters.
It could perhaps also just be something with the quality of the picture with the collection.
Or it can maybe just be something with my eyes..

No your spot on.. when those go small they degrade quickly. My intention was really never to go TOO small (ie they were not made for icons.)
I actually am running the white circle for my Whisker icon and yes it is "ok" .
These were really intended for grub and splash screens, and as I was working on the wire mountains and attempting to get a better 3-d version of the current / next logo, I kind of derailed and found myself here. ( Since my time is usually spread very thin, when I have a moment and my artistic shows up... I tend to let it take me where it wants to go - then come back and be rational :-) ) I have just not had a chance to get back to them for that ;/
What your not seeing yet are the version 3 and 4 of "this"...

The professionals advice for working with icons is to start big and you did that, so I can't see you could have done much differently.
I really like the way you work with it and I don't want to make you too realistic too soon.
Maybe you want to play some more with them but they are still very good the way they are now.
On the upside I think the 3D effect with "the naughty step forward" is a little more clear on the small pictures.
If you have a usable Wisker icon I really don't see how you can defend holding it back for a very long time.

When you are done supplying the demand from old computers as I highly respect, and if you find more time for playing, maybe you want to make some colorized examples too.?

Thanks, I used the white circle graphic for my whisker menu. (The set that I linked).
I made some notes to look at color versions of these and shall go back and see what I can come up with. (Thinking chrome, blue steel and some colored metallic might just look good! )

I really think about it...
And tried something to justify the line:-
MX Linux - Elegant, Stable
The first thing came to mind, elephant which is elegant and stable, and if it's a baby elephant we can call it medium weight
On this line, a mirror of elephants producing M and X words too
here have a look
elephant1_mx.png
and simply if placed
mx_elephant.png
Then came another loved animal, dolphins, though it's not producing the M and X words, But it's an elegant, stable and friendly animal
here a look
dolphin_mx.png

Just for fun
Thanks AKS

All these artistic explorations can always be developed into interesting artwork, eg wallpaper, start buttons, etc.
Don't restrict yourself into just thinking about "official logo"....

Is it just me, or does this new logo suggestion not read like MXM

I think it's a brilliant experiment you add here. Especially the first one.
Should the proboscis perhaps be crossed.?
