Can't believe it's butter!
ZOMG, I thought it was butter, too!

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT BUTTER!™

MX is better because I have my fingers in the pie! :p

Exactly.

On my primary computer I run debian xfce as a virtual machine. On an older machine I run MX from a USB stick. I don't see much difference. The main thing I want from a linux distribution is easy access to the debian repository. Several years ago debian dismissed those debian-live developers who were interested in running from USB, to focus exclusively on installation media.

Booting MX from a USB2 stick is faster than booting the old Windows 7 system, and avoids the risk and complications of dual booting.

(Somewhat off topic: on my oldest hardware I run antix from a stick. Not as handy as MX, but less demanding of the hardware, and better resource monitors)

I view Debian as being akin to a kit car where-as MX is the finished product.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

systemd is installed but boot defaults to SysV unless you go to advanced options from the boot screen.
Wrong! SystemD is disabled by default.
@siamhie is correct.

debian does offer non-free versions so it makes debian more doable as a plus. you have to dig around on their site. they have the codecs etc built into these iso's. that is what i used when i used debian before settling into MX. they offer all the various desktops under this profile too.

i have to say that recently debian finally straightened out their forums from a lot of the arrogance and knucklehead holier than thou's there too. so the forums are much more approachable now.

however i am a huge MX fan. I am glad i gave it a shot under 18 and then 19.
