And the article/site is suppose to be done by Red Hat? And whoever did the article needs a course in presenting multiple years worth of common graphs for comparison, points off for not aligning distributions in columns to be easily compared year to year

I don't see any reason why MX would not have much more votes. How many active users do we have on this forum..... must be +1,000. When is this vote ending?

Not as bad as last year when they decided ReactOS, based on MS Windows code, was a "Linux distribution" in their 2019 poll.

Almost as amusing, this is a RedHat website, and no RedHat-based distro has managed to win their own popularity contest.

It interesting that we didn't even show up in the previous years (maybe only in "Other"), now we are making a showing, it's already a win in my view.

So you don't know that centOS is RedHat based?
Edit: Oops I misread your comment. I thought you were referring to the list not having any Red Hat based distros in it.

Probably many (most?) of the users are like me, only checking the board every few months.
Stats off the forum front page show:
Code: Select all
In total there are 33 users online :: 6 registered, 0 hidden and 27 guests (based on users active over the past 2 minutes)
Most users ever online was 1866 on Mon Oct 07, 2019 4:19 am
Total members 8585
6 people over 2 minutes doesn't really tell us much about usage per day though

Arch was as big as Ubuntu in 2014, then not included in 2015, and then kept a steady number of votes until 2018. I don't know what happened in 2019, the numbers are way lower than they should be. Anyway, the inclusion of a distro/OS is by itself publicity, especially when the list is small. Go MX!

All online votes have this short-come..... nothing new. This vote is similar to DistroWatch hit rank. :) Its fun and hopefully more users will try MX.

Voted MX. But I was little torn - almost entered antiX. It's a toss up!
Seems Debian is well liked, when considering Ubuntu and MX are Debian based.

Not in my experience you can vote more than once on all online voting. But I agree with on DistroWatch and I understand what you mean. Not a bad idea.

You cannot control voters using different devices, domains or email addresses depending on control criteria. As I said, helps MX to be known and will also benefit antiX.

MX is now in 9th position, +150 votes more will be fine. Ubuntu is pre-installed in thousands of machines, no point of competing but to have a nice number of votes among top 5.

Let me give a stern and serious word of advice to
all voters in
any online voting contest:
cheating a vote this way is reprehensible.
Your intentions may not be so bad, but try and understand how this kind of thing affects how others see the MX community. It's a dishonest act, and can put MX Linux' reputation at risk of being a "community with cheaters." All our hard work destroyed in a jiffy.
I'd rather see Ubuntu win than MX cheating. I may or may not represent the other devs here on this, but I would imagine at least a large majority would agree with my stance. As would, I'm sure, the admins and mods of this forum, MX guides, and the respectable user base of MX.
So, one more time, to those participating in a voting contest: by all means,
have fun, but please do not cheat!

Some would consider opening a thread about the competition on the distribution's forum to garner extra votes to be cheating in itself.

Looking at the MX vote increase frequency, as I said earlier 10 votes per hour, no cheating is there. What was good and has given nice number of votes (currently 521), to have this thread visible in "Newest Posts" column. Those distros with high vote number in such short time, some type of advertisement most likely is there.

It's a reasonable measure of how many fanbois distros have. Certainly not a measure of quality or even just number of users. In the 2018 poll, PCLinuxOS had more votes than Ubuntu. A handful of PCLos users must have spent a lot of time casting multiple votes.
I'd guess cookies are the only means of checking if someone has voted from a particular computer. Surely they could set it up to only allow one vote per IP address.

There is nothing reasonable about it. It is a measure of how many individuals can vote for the same distro as many times as they can or want to. An individual can vote once or more than once. All what this election is to give the illusion of distros ranking the same as like the rankings on Distrowatch. It's a Fantasy-land election for fun. Enjoy and have fun.

It came up on my phones news feed.
All this talk has piqued my interest as to why this poll really was posted. One thing for certain is people that would not have otherwise visited that site are going to go there, if not for anything more than curiosity. For it to have come up in a news feed, you'd think someone triggered it to do so, so it may very well be nothing more than a form of click bait, evidenced by the fact that results are hidden behind a click-wall. It's most likely a revenue stream for the site host.

The Arch devs don't care about popularity:
Whereas many GNU/Linux distributions attempt to be more user-friendly, Arch Linux has always been, and shall always remain user-centric. The distribution is intended to fill the needs of those contributing to it, rather than trying to appeal to as many users as possible.

When you think about it if just the developers and creators of some of these distros vote then they get hundred if not thousands of votes just from that.
We have to remember that despite popularity, usage, and everything involved.... MX is still a young and small distro in comparison to many others.
People are talking about MX, writing about MX, and downloading MX... at the end of the day that is more important than any survey.

MX (649) looks clean. Would not expect more than ~700 which is a good number as a "new" distro at the top. When will this vote end..... in December??
