more recommendable mail providers in Europe ( who also offer free mail accounts):

https://mailfence.com/en/ / Belgium

https://dismail.de/ / Germany

Information on data protection in Germany can be read here:

If you really want "SAFE" mail, then you need email of which you're 100% in control. In other words, get away from any third party webmail which doesn't belong to you ... install Thunderbird on your computer ... set the server mail delete option to 24 hours ... and then have all of your email sitting strictly on a machine with a disk that you have control over.

All web based third party services either have control over what goes through them, or they have the potential for a total loss of control if their service gets hacked by someone with full access to that third party service. It simply boggles my mind how foolish people can be, thinking something that they're not in control of can be be safe & trusted. Hackers don't need to have an interest in you specifically if they're only interested in dumping the data that they achieved access too, to someoen else for financial gain. Security & Safety is first and foremost the responsibility of the individual, not any third party service which controls your data! Check this out, quite interesting, and a bit scary too: https://siliconangle.com/?s=hack

Well, that's my opinion on the subject anyway. Peace.

Another vote for Disroot... IMAP works fine on email clients (Thunderbird)

Sadly, you can't sign in without the invitation code.
Does my 500+ posts on MX forum and almost 2 year membership pass for a help in the form of invitation code from existing rise.up member here? (I don't know anyone who use it)

I'm also happy with Disroot, use it for some years. They have a high privacy protection level and support IMAP and POP3.
In principle any mail client should support that, additionally you can use their webmail.

A pity they have some issues with Nextcloud now, but it has no effect on my mail performance.
