Ah, ok. I may see some "confusion" (or bette where those confusion might come from), b/c the live-system auto-detects/set keyboard based on language selection (with guessing the region and the default keyboard within that region). But this is just a "specialty" of the live-system.

From running system perspective, you can select any available language and any available keyboard layout.
Which you can even do manually by using boot parameter lang=fr_FR and kbd=be kbvar= etc..)
Or with other words: If you select "French (BE)" you keyboard is auto-set to Belgian keyboard. The language would be taken from [fr] translations with no need to have extra (duplicated) translations available as [fr_BE].

In MX-21 we added the option to explicitly select both language and keyboard within GRUB-menu ( in UEFI the default menu , in BIOS after manually switching to GRUB menu).
You are offered to select language and keyboard separately, including a first good guess of the keyboar when selecting the language first.
Do you understand? Even without having a translations for fr_BE, you still get [fr] translations and can either use the pre-selected keyboard or choose any other keyboard regardless of the language selected.

In additon, you can always have more then one ( up to 4) keyboard layouts active and switch keyboard layout by clicking on keyboard switcher or pressing [RCtrl]+[RShift}

May I suggest you reuse the texts from the "mx-all-desktop-entries" file of all updated languages?
And also, if it is possible to include the texts of other .desktop files that are not available in the "mx-all-desktop-entries" file?
This way you will use several texts that are not yet used in the .desktop files and allow several new .desktop files to be translated into several languages.

Fehlix, I register my thanks for caring about translations. If you can teach us, we can help you do some work that might make your job easier when it comes to packaging and creating the .deb file. I hope one day I can learn to create .deb and .AppImage packages

Eu posso sugerir você reaproveitar os textos do arquivo "mx-all-desktop-entries" de todos os idiomas atualizados?
E ainda, ser for possível incluir os textos de outros arquivos .desktop que não estão disponíveis arquivo "mx-all-desktop-entries"?
Desta forma você irá utilizar vários textos que ainda não forma utilizados nos arquivos .desktop e permitir que vários arquivos .desktop novos sejam traduzidos em vários idiomas.

Fehlix, eu registro os meus agradecimentos por se importar com as traduções. Se você puder nos ensinar, poderemos ajudá-lo a fazer algum trabalho que possa facilitar o seu trabalho no momento de empacotar e criar o arquivo .deb. Eu espero um dia poder aprender a criar pacotes .deb e .AppImage

Yes, the mx-datetime.desktop file was re-generated with translations from "mx-all-desktop-entries" for about 43 languages. As desktop-files are provided within the package of an app, we can only do this step by step for each applications to updated/refresh translation from transifex before a new deb-packages is build.

Thank you for all the efforts of the developers to get the translations in order.
I don't know if this is related to "mx-all-desktop-entries" but I still have an example with "apt-notifier" (which notifies updates).

For my installation [en_BE];

1) In MX Linux 19.4 AHS, a right click on the "apt-notifier" icon (the little box), all the menu is translated in French.

2) In MX Linux 21, right click on the "apt-notifier" icon, the whole menu is in English.

I can't put a printscreen because I use a double screen and the file always takes the copy of my two screens (even if I take 10 seconds to select a zone, etcaetera...)

Ah, good finding. So your running with French Belgian [fr_BE].
Just checked it, what happend seems to be "somewhere" a "bug", b/c
we have an apt-notifier.mo[fr_BE]:
/usr/share/locale/fr_BE/LC_MESSAGES/apt-notifier.mo
The content is just one translation

All other translationars not existent in apt-notifier.mo[fr_BE],
but are available within apt-notifier.mo[fr]:
/usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/apt-notifier.mo

What the system should have done, would be to check first in
apt-notifier.mo[fr_BE]
and if not found in
apt-notifier.mo[fr]
So I'm a bit surprised, too.
But anyway, even without knowing why it is not doing it as it should do.
The simplist fix would be this:
We will just ignore what we have in apt-notifier.mo[fr_BE]
And it should work.

You can verify that it works by manually fixing it this way:

sudo rm  /usr/share/locale/fr_BE/LC_MESSAGES/apt-notifier.mo

Now restart apt-notifier -> right click on the apt-notifier icon -> Restart
et voilà:

apt-notifier-fr_BE.png

Conclusion: We can ingore fr_BE translation for apt-notifier
and fix a translation issue.
Will prepare a fix (by ignoring [fr_BE] translations, will be show up in the repos soonish...

Dear fehlix,

Thank you, I will wait for the update of apt-notify.
As I told you in another thread, anticapitalista made me discover that there are strange reactions with 4-letter languages.
antiX and MX Linux sometimes look for a [fr_BE] translation and if they can't find it, they display the programs in English. They won't take the [fr] translation.
For antiX we have both translations so we are sure to have at least one good French translation. I have no problem following both because Transifex offers a lot of flexibility in working methods.
Now that you only want one French translation, I have to install both MX Linux versions on two computers. One in [fr] and the other in [fr_BE] to be able to compare them.
Moreover, I have several windows that mix English and French. Now I have to see if Transifex translations are well incorporated in MX Linux.
Your method may be easier for the developers but is much more cumbersome for the translators who test the programs.
As long as the French-speaking region of Belgium (called Wallonia) will not be a department of France as many politicians propose, it will always be necessary to make a [fr_BE] installation and this is no fun for you and me.
Moreover, Belgians can't buy a laptop in France because we can't change the keyboard on a laptop!

I just received the correction for MX Date&Time in my [fr_BE] installation (from it.MX repository). Everything is in French.

I am interested in which applications in MX Linux do not get French translations when running under the fr_BE locale,
but would get translations when running under fr_FR locale.

Dear fehlix,

Here it is the example with an install of MX21 fr_FR, apt-notifier is directly in French. Please find my screenshot of apt-notifier menu on the fresh install before one update.
This is the proof that they are differences between fr_FR and fr_BE.
Please don't say I'm a liar if you are not convinced.

Impossible to put my screenshot, the file is too heavy.
