antiX-17-b1-full available for public testing
This is our first public beta of antiX-17 full version built on the recently released Debian Stretch base.
Some quick information. (Note full version no longer fits on a cd - it is c.808MB)
* Based on Debian Stretch, but without systemd nor systemd-shim.
* Customised 4.10.5 kernel with fbcondecor splash
* libreoffice 5.2.7-1
* firefox-esr 52.2.0
* claws-mail 3.14.1-3+b1
* xmms -for audio
* gnome-mpv - for playing video
* smtube 17.1.0 - play youtube videos without a using a browser
* streamlight-antix - stream videos with very low RAM usage
* eudev
We have also included some applications built by the MX team and ported them to this version of antiX.
* packageinstaller replaces metapackage-installer
* bootrepair
* ddm-mx to set up Nvidia driver
* codecs to easily install restricted codecs
* broadcom manager for network troubleshooting
New applications
* Lxkeymap to change session keyboard layout
* Fskbsetting to set installed system keymaps
Some new and improved cli apps - please test.
* cli-aptiX - synaptic for the command line ((WIP)
* antiX-cli-cc - cli control centre - have fun watching videos, playing audio without any need for Xorg (WIP)
* live-usb-maker now with encryption option
Known issues:
* spotify does not install in packageinstaller (others?)
* live boot - internet works ok with ethernet ootb, but does not work after installed. Use ceni to set it up again - make sure you use auto option.
* conky blurs when switching themes in IceWM

Just took a quick look Live, and it is terrific! Congrats.
Only thing I noticed in a once-over is that when I tried to install a printer some complicated dialog box pops up and says the service is not enabled. Don't see why that shouldn't be enabled by default myself instead of making users go through an extra and not user-friendly step.

Running live turns off cups. Try it without the disable=lx live boot menu cheat.

it uses sudo, so you need to put in the user password: "demo"

When prompted for a password, read the prompt. It says enter YOUR password.

OK demo is the root password, for a first look it is nice work!

demo is the user password, which is what sudo calls for.

To be clear
demo account password is demo
root account password is root
In antix, gksu prompts ask for the USER account password rather than root because antix uses sudo as the backend for gksu.

Looks good so far.
I downloaded, verified md5, OK, burned to a DVD.
Live session was working all as expected. (Network not enabled, as you announced, ran ceni, eth0 configured effortlessly).
So, I installed on the signature machine.
Looks good, except during installation, the option for samba and the MS network name were greyed out.
Installed to my test partition sda4, grub to root.
Booted back to MX-16, update-grub, and now am posting from the antix-17 beta. Network configured automatically on the install.
Suspend mode works, audio, youtube all work.
Installed a few chess programs with synaptic, all seems normal.
Later today, I will test more extensively.
I am surprised how fast antiX downloads, burns, and installs with the smaller iso compared to MX-16.
This is a fast machine, but everything was very fast.

Samba is not included on the iso. We have connectshares, which is lighter.

OK, I will try connectshares.
Can I just invoke connect shares from a terminal?
Or is it is some system or settings menu?
It works similar to samba for set up?
Thanks, looking very good so far.

If you want to use samba, packageinstaller should have an option.

Yes, I did not know to use sudo used the control center -It has been a while since I used AntiX but I seed it for other users. It is quicker than MX but I have not much time behind the keyboard of this new build and I will relearn a good deal of forgotten AntiX knowledge...

Namida,
Hey you got your Ryzen machine going !
Is it fast?
INXI lists your board as a laptop motherboard, is that an error ?
I thought sound drivers would be a problem, that's why I am waiting to buy the new hardware.
It looks like the antiX 4.10.5 kernel is new enough to have all the drivers????
INXI shows eth0 as down...can you get the network connected?
Is your Samsung SSD an M2 or SATA corm factor?
I m still looking for an MX iteration (or I can unpdate a kernel to liquorix or antiX) , but this is an encouraging step for me to see.
Yes, I have to refresh a lot of anitX knowledge also, somethings are different. I still don't have the network shares available with connectshares.
In MX, I supply the MSHOME workgroup name during the install, and the shares are there in the filemanager, accessible after I supply credentials.
I may try and load samba, but I have a feeling there is some auto configuration taking place behind the scenes on MX that make it work easily.

When running live, I had no etho also.
Per Anticapitalista's announcement, use ceni to enable it.
I got there through the control panel.
When I installed to sda4, the eth0 was automatically working.
[This is what I heard was the issue with the new Ryzen boards, new chip sets, and it takes some time for all the drivers to get put into the kernel. I heard 4.11 was supposed to have everything, but some "late" 4.10, maybe 4.10.9(?) had new drivers, some audio chips, and als some network chips].
In other news I saw 4.12 was released
http://news.softpedia.com/news/linux-ke ... 6784.shtml
So eventually liquorix or antiX will have these newer kernels,, then MX, and back to normal, of everything just working !
Namida, are you running live on the flash drive, or installed?

The Ryzen 5 1500X Desktop system seems slower to boot than I thought it would be with the SSD, but it certainly is far quicker than the AMD C-60 I have been using for the last six months. That system is now running MX-16.1 as a Torrent seeder...
Quote: "INXI lists your board as a laptop motherboard, is that an error ?"
Yes it is a desktop, being miss classified as a laptop.
Understand Pulse audio is in testing repository, system D free... I have alsa sound, see sound solution suggested above, lacks the much louder volume with my head phones than the AMD C-60 with pulse audio.... will try that next...
Quote: "INXI shows eth0 as down...can you get the network connected?"
Yes, I did not know how to use CENI, thanks to the help in this thread network is up and unbelievably Quick. I am on Cox here in the states running 187 Mbps down 11Mbps up - Cox throttles the UP. Paying $90 per month Family in Japan is paying $36 a month for 100Mbps down and up
Samsung SSD is SATA form factor
Also if you notice INXI is listing 8 cores, and I only have 4 cores on the Ryzen 5 1500X.
I have installed testing this time around, after saving the few files I created.

Not able to use root password update! My root password was not saved, after first use of system and I can not add new software any longer.
I just reinstalled testing going from stretch, to see if my root password would work with AntiX 17 b1. No, in control centre click on package installer it asks for password and does not except the password I saved. Dialog Box opens - "Incorrect Password... Try again"
I use punctuation, letters, and numbers in my root password, should I install again and use letters only for a root password?
Using AntiX thread here, since my account was never setup in AntiX Forums.

Installed antiX 17-b1:
- The menu in the installed system is different from the one in the live system. Besides, it has some issues. In my opinion, the menu change does not come as an improvement. I think the menu in the live system (so, the one from antiX 16) is easier for the user.
- "Logout" doesn't bring up the options (suspend, shutdown, etc); "Reboot" and "Shutdown" do not work
- In Control Center /Hardware the buttons Configure Mouse, Test Sound, Adjust Mixer, and Alsamixer Equalizer do not work
- In Control Center /System the buttons Choose Startup Services, Set System Keymap, and Set Date and Time do not work
The live system doesn't show these issues.
This is not the result of a thorough testing. The menu is unavoidable, obviously, and the other issues are the ones I happened to come across.
