The top looks squashed. Is that one of the things to address.

On my machine, the username column is too narrow.

yes Karen and I see that as well. No settings in ACP for that.

The Newest Posts space is huge. Will it stay that way?

It is a function of the number of top posters and posts showing currently set at 8. I think if the spacing is adjusted it will look better.
Also the announcement font looks too large to me. It overpowers the top banner.

The recents on the test site look OK. If we can make it look like that it would be fine.

Just landed here thinking, What the ...?
It is a significant change. Once I get turned right side up, things should start looking normal again

For those not on line during the day when we posted an announcement. obviously the forum software has been upgraded. A necessary change as the old software was woefully out of date and unsupported by phpBB. The changes are many but most functions are available. Missing is the Thanks module which will be added when one becomes available. An added bonus is much better rendering on smartphones.

Certainly looks different. Have just wasted ten minutes trying to write this comment wondering why I could not type.
- then discovered that the keyboard's usb cable was unplugged. During that ten minutes I found my way around the
new layout. It's great.
Many thanks to Peregrine and all others involved.
Gordon.

From the Newest Posts list, I'm taken directly to the end of the topic, not the beginning or first unread.

A couple of questions for the moment:
1) Is there a way to change the colors on a per user basis?
I know on the antix forum you can select a different theme in the user control panel. I tend to use a dark theme unless the ambient light is very high (like outside in the sun)
2) how do you tell if you have read a thread or have not? They seem to look the same to me

Oi, that took me by surprise. No you cannot select a different theme, just checked through the user control panel.
The new threads have this light yellow box on the front of them, the read ones do not have this.

Going to have to get used to:
1. clicking on "Unread posts" or "New posts" at the top right corner. The list of newest posts on the front page only shows the latest 8 no matter how many more recent posts were unread. The old forum software just listed all unread posts, in as many pages as it took.
2. being brought to the last post in a thread when clicking on the "unread" orange icon to the left of the thread link. Seems a waste of effort to have to then make an additional mouseclick after that to be brought to the first unread post. Is there any way at the very least to have the "first unread post" option at the bottom of the page rather than on top, since that's where the user ends up after being brought to the last post?
This software looks similar to that of another forum I visit, and clicking on the orange icon always brought me to the first unread post. So this might be a setting that can be changed.
Other than that, it's looking good.
EDIT:
Clarification: if you click on "new posts" via the Quick Links on the top left rather than the link on the top right corner, the small orange icon on the left of the thread link does bring you to the first unread post. It's only if you click on the icons in the list of 8 newest posts or via the "new posts" link in the top right, that you are brought to the last post in thread.
Weird inconsistency.

1. No
2. Unread threads have a yellow box net to the thread, unread blue

1. That is a setting tied to the number of recent posts shown on the Index page. it is currently set at 8. I do not want to make it too large as it would take over a majority of the Index page.
2. Apparently that is controlled by the Recent Posts module and not configurable. The Quick Links post ordering can be changed in your user control panel.

Well, this will take a little getting used to, but not much. Seems to be pretty well laid out. A bit of a shock though, when I first got here this morning...

I just tried marking all topics as read, yet the yellow post it notes on the forum main page are sticking in their places. I have no unread posts, all has been marked read, how do I get those things to turn to normal?

I believe those yellow icons indicate the presence of subforums, not of unread posts.

Owhhh indeedie! Thanks. Normal behavior would be unread posts, hence the confusion :)

Hollering in that I would like it to remain at the top. I use this to check for new posts and having to scroll each time I refresh is quite annoying :/

I agree, that is the natural place for it.

It is only an 'annoyance' once you have read all the posts. It takes up too much space (I'm using an older monitor)

Have no solutions for that. I believe many use that feature, I do, and weighing benefits against "cost", I would argue in favor of keeping it. If we removed it I am sure we would hear "What happened to the Newest Posts display.

Yaaaaayyyyy. :)
Any idea when we will have the Thank You button again, so response posts are unnecessary?

Looks nice, on terminal based browsers, too. Not as "special" as before, but might be due to technological choices and constraints. Thanks for your work to all who made it possible!

We have no time frame for that. It depends on upstream developers.

it's quite similar, if not the same, as some other sites,
& yes - it will take a little getting used to - if you haven't used this forum version, elsewhere.
- it has some advantages, though, not least of all, to the Forum Admin.

Let's all be clear about the motivation for this upgrade:
1) what we were using was no longer supported by phpBB
2) security is greatly improved
Admin advantages had nothing to do with it.

I'm not in favour of removing it. It is a very useful feature. I had hoped it could be hidden by the user.
Also, thanks to everyone involved in setting up and designing the new forum.
