How did you disable Discover? I also installed apt-notifier for update check. Can it just be uninstalled? As I've seen in its settings there is no option to disable it. It was a clean install on a new SSD (I kept the old one for... you know, just in case).
Some fine tuning (themes, icons, boot...), replaced Clementine with Audacious, disabled Discover, installed Synaptic and apt-notifier
Also installed additional browsers (Chromium, Falkon), IM (Skype, Caprine, Zoom) and dev environment (Codium, MySQL Workbench, Azure Data Studio)
Tranferred settings from the old install (for selected applications only) and VMs
